Just come from reading the latest on AB’s drowned bike thread.

and reading if the engine in his bike has to be dropped out to helicoil the drain plug .

and he will drop the engine himself to save $100/h for the shop to do it.

I was too lazy to dig out the other thread so I’ll post this update here.

The shop (N.B. not KTM newcastle) initially said they could do it without pulling the motor but I just got a call saying sorry we wont be able to get to it safely with the motor in so we’d have to pull it or you could do it yourself and bring it back in for the helicoil.

For them to pull it and put the heli in its $350 if I bring the engine to them its $100.

He was perfectly happy for me to pull the motor myself and called me before he did any chargeable work so I’m happy enough except for the inconvenience of having to go pick it up again but that’s no big deal. So as per my original point, for $250 I’ll be happy enough to spend a night or two in the shed drinking beer :D

I wonder if they’ve tried turning the engine around so that the exhaust exits straight out the back so there’s less exposed for damage and more of a straight through no bends ergo no loss (loud)exhaust. I thought I recalled seeing something like that somewhere…

Is it just the o ring or the cylinder itself? I had to replace my master and it was bloody pricey but my mechanic managed to track a 2nd hand one down. Is it a magura or brembo? From memory the Magura units are easier to come by at a good price but of course mine is brembo :(

Nah noone gives a f*ck about soccer do they? I imagine they wouldn’t while looking at that anyway! I did suggest that these would be a good merch for OBT but I’m told someone on here does them already. I got 20 made up for $112 express posted and I might have a couple left over so if they do I’ll auction them off to the highest donation :)

BTW benno is the crf450x rider from the anzac watties ride.

Cheers for the opinions guys ;)

You’ll probably be disappointed to learn that they’re all the same girl then right? Her name is Keeley Hazell and I’m surprised you haven’t heard of her.

Page 3 models – the only good things to come out of pomgolia :D

BTW I have to be clear that I have no idea what KTM newcastle charge per hour but if I needed to I’d have no issues with paying it because they have my trust so far and seem like good genuine blokes even though I haven’t had to trust them yet since the only work they’ve done is replace my rear wheel bearing set because I didn’t have a drift and couldn’t get the originals out. I’ve also been in there several times and they’ve never *tried* to put a sale on me despite my quiet perving/tyre kicking which is great because I hate being sold to.

My point in the other thread was that something as simple yet possibly slightly time consuming as taking the motor out was worth doing myself rather than having a professional mechanic do it. If I could I’d still rather spend that saved money at the bike shop but on something I want like $120 bottle of Motul oil! (new thread/search needed for oil advice)

My brother also took my bike to the Dirt Bike Factory in Wollongong where I was recommended and from all reports Anthony looked after him and assured him that the motor didn’t need to be pulled out and that while there was a trick to preventing swarf (sp?)from escaping into the case the rest was straight forward and simple.
