I’m riding. Posted it up too.
-6C is cold. 5C Sat and 1C Sun is not too bad.
I’d prefer the pub for sure. This is one I haven’t done yet. I’ll come along depending on the date of course and watch the shenanigans unfold.
Maybe a good substitute for stubie holder when you run out?
Yikes. Sorry to hear that. Sounds like previous owner seized it and sold it. Those cylinder coatings are quite tough so make sure it’s truly bad before having it bored and re coated. Your going to need some help. That big end sounds normal. Might get away with not having to spend too much yet…
Well HB and LC make an excellent point. Not that it’s fun spending money so early in the story but $300 for a top end kit nice and fresh with sane jetting will get you rolling with peace of mind.
You don’t sound like one to jet it yourself however if you try some combos that people use and just enjoy the riding. Top end first then jetting second. In time you’ll know when it’s time for a new top end when you notice the bottom end power drop off. For me about 70-90hrs.
If you do pull the pipe do take some photos and the more experienced can help. You can also check the cylinder wall condition (to some degree) this way. Deep scratches in the piston or cylinder are not what you want to see although never the end of the world. I’ve seen the worst case scenario myself and it was $1500 – pretty unlikely.
Good on you for wanting to look after it yourself. Plenty here do so and have done for years so there is good advise here to step you through preparation and any problems you find.Hard to tell. There’s heaps of tricks and opinions. It is good to know however that 2T bikes are pretty tough and very forgiving with worn rings. Some 300 KTMs run up to 100 – 120 hrs or more on a top end – is that a good thing depends on opinion.
30 legit trail-riding hours on a top end is not much. 30hrs for a race season and drowned twice in a muddy boghole is not so good see.
I personally pull the pipe off and take a look at the piston/rings up the exhaust port. If you don’t know what your looking for it’s a useless 20min.
When you say “turn over by hand” you mean run the full stroke of the kickstart – not actually start the engine hopefully…As a fellow old bull Eags I’m sorry to hear the troubling news and I hope the best for your Mrs mate. Fingers crossed here.
I’m out. Relos from Sydney arriving at my doorstep on Friday 4th. Sorry lads, was looking forward to it.
Yikes I need to check with the head of the social calendar but I’m zero’d in.
Smoken? He won’t know what to do, he’s never ridden anywhere away from Dubbo…
Dungog, nice. Would have been better than our Orange dust bowl. However, if they get some rain in August it will be a mud pit!Yep I can’t ride this weekend I’m out of town. I’ve taken you down the Tomingley road on our first ride Ecks, remember? You were still on the big banana back then. The little banana will be easier to tip in around the trees now days.
That footage is better than the the live event. Brilliant. Really gives you perspective on how fast he rides. Best go pro footage i have ever watched of enduro riding.
Who is doing the 4day?

Well excuse me. You sound like the expert here. You might want to head over to battery university and do some reading old bull.
My advise on Li-po applies to Li-ion as well. You may also be surprised to know there are/were mobile phones that run Li-ion batteries.
And so I correct my previous mention of 50% storage, apparently 40% is the better storage level. The only point to what I am saying is if you need to store your lithium motorcycle battery for a long time don’t charge the crap out of it before you do. Also the enemy of most if not all types of batteries is heat and over charging.
My signature disclaimer always applies.
Mobile phone batteries are best used between 20 & 80% charge. For long term storage they should be kept around 50% charge.
