That’s no good. No way to treat a Kato! ;)
In all fairness you had it coming. Everyone knows a 300exc likes to initiate it’s new owner with one or more unfortunate “incidents”. My 300 has a few notches on it’s belt already. 3 owners and all 3 of us end up in hospital. The other 2 sold up quick but you see after initiation there is a solid respect there that you have to earn the hard way ….. I’m still holding the reins. :D

Another DRZ on the way out.
In my opinion, if it must be a 4T and a KTM it wouldn’t be smaller than a 350.
If it must be a 4T 250 it would be a CRF if you have the funding.
If it must be a 4T 250 and money and maintenance is an issue – WR.

    Thats crap LC.
Get to it rat. Your bike will be fine. Most trailriders I see nowdays probably deserve to ride a lesser bike than an XT! Have fun on the cheap mate! Disclaimer: buy the best protective gear you can afford.

I agree Ollie grease nipples are a good thing. Weaken it, I don’t think so but if one was worried about that – or worried about the nipple being smashed – drill and tap the linkage bolts, drill a cross the bolt to let grease through to the bearing.. I have done this on my WR200. I remove the nipples and replace with a small bolt to they don’t get damaged.
Luckily, on my Kato without a linkage… you know the rest.

On a high load part like that I personally wouldn’t. I’m no materials engineer but that sort of heat is bound to weaken a cast alloy part. If were to choose between that and a genuine part I would pay the money. Rear wheel slamming into rear guard at 100km fully laden – no thanks. Only an opinion….

Very true, I keep looking back here for something interesting to read, nup. Maybe they are too busy cleaning their bikes.

Hmm not good. For $5/600 odd dollars I would have (time permitting) investigated an engineered solution to an obvious design fault. Perhaps a solid billet replacement with bigger proportions where required. Maybe even a steal replacement. An engineer can work off your existing part – not rocket science.
    Good luck on your trip!

No way dude its all political handshakes mate with the shooting party and labour. I brought it up here as an example of how bizarre things ca get. Unfortunately we dont have numbers or backing so we have to soldier on and drive further. One more thing, avoid riding in shitty wet conditions like last weekend. I did it but dont condone it. ;)

Right on Scotty. When they sort out the batteries in them it will give new meaning to “going for a spin down the park after work”. Near silent running, light weight. Awesome.

By the looks of that KTM it looked like an old 90s 2 banger. Thin bars, magura clutch, white and spearmint colours.
My adrenalin was pumping watching the start. Pretty cool.

Not for me. If it was electric yeah maybe – without that gay headlight.
