Yep I’m good to go. The last ride I was on rained out so I have 20 litres to burn. Clean out a leaky seal and grease the chain maybe. Would be good to see if we can hook up with someone that knows some tracks we don’t out there.

No worries if you can’t make it TB. If you know anyone that can, that would be great.
We can’t ride around here anymore. It’s just not worth it. We are all prepared to travel, 1.5hrs is an easy day drive.
Yep, lets see what happens.May 3, 2011 at 1:44 am in reply to: 3rd Annual OBT Birthday Ride Weekend, 28th, 29th May 2011 #200298Trailboss wrote:Is Grant brake pads a member Axel? If he isn’t he needs to get signed up if he is what is his site name so I add him to the listWelcome aboard
TB
Brake Pads Grant is now known as “Bean” TB. His username is Bean. As in Mr Bean. No, serious.
I’ll get him to introduce himself to the OBT world in a post as well.
AxelYep I think your right. I’ll collect them when we meet for the ride to save stuffing around. Theres no rush. I’ll let you know when I purchase them, might best to wait till we get closer to the date.
CheersTB have spoken to Whiteboy-Alan-Rocket and he is keen for a container. So it’s 2x 4L (about $44?). While we are at it we may as well get a bottle of the Motul magic filter oil too (no idea what it’s worth, $15??). Let me know (PM) or here what you need from us/me to get the ball rolling for the shipment to go to Pillon’s.
Cheers for that.aido wrote:I`ll second that ,i had to kiss and make up with my WR now that my Bergs broken down.Ha yes that happens.
Yes Rocket, that’s the spirit. Don’t say it out loud or the 530 might hear. I’ve got to give you a ring tonight or tomorrow.

Wasn’t brake pads anyway that ride was low on fluid
TBCorrection TB, it was brake pads. Good ‘ol KTM/Brembo fault. Low brake pads combined with design fault master cylinder that holds not enough fluid. Your memory is fairly good.
I spoke to him today. He will sign up and I’ll let you know his handle.
The rocket recommends a Kato. Has the sky gone red? Hahahaha
April 29, 2011 at 1:41 am in reply to: 3rd Annual OBT Birthday Ride Weekend, 28th, 29th May 2011 #200313Haha yes we do need to be nice to him.
I’ve told him to sign up finally. He’s not very forum savvy.
Hopefully he comes up with a witty name.April 28, 2011 at 8:09 pm in reply to: 3rd Annual OBT Birthday Ride Weekend, 28th, 29th May 2011 #198404It took me a while to realise this wasn’t an adventure bike ride…. months….
I checked with the events coordinator and that weekend is free. I’m in TB and I have a tag along friend who will bring a tent for me to use
You have met both of us already on an Orange ride.
2 x 300EXC smokers with 40L of oily fuel.
Axel and “Brake Pads” Grant.Clarky welcome. There should be heap of rides that way this year. Looking forward to heading up there more often and will see you on some of these rides without a doubt.
Trailboss wrote:Axel if you buy the stuff from Sutto’s (cause its close to me and they are a sponsor) I will get it delivered to Dubbo where Rocket works as I know a driver that goes out there every weekend. He has delivered tyres out there for Rocket before
TBGreat idea that TB. Will have a chat to Rocket and see if he want’s something while I’m going to the effort. Thanks eh!
haveldirt wrote:… but most people I talk to tell me about the high maintenance involved on the motors (4st).No trouble Peter.
Well yes, this is true BUT…. if I just purchased a 400/450 off a reasonable source or have paperwork/proof to show either low hours or rebuilt recently, AND I only wanted to ride the bike for a year or 2 or 3 or 4 before trying something different, there will be no high maintenance costs. I wouldn’t touch the motor.
If however I was determined to keep this bike for a long time then YES, welcome to the world of expensive maintenance eventually.
If you went the way of the 2st (I have), I know what I need to do, I know what it’s going to cost, I know the motor is fresh because I pulled it down after purchase. I’ve done it many times before. It IS affordable to maintain. It will require maintenance medium to long term but the costs of parts and your time rebuilding are smaller/less. Again if you keep the 2st short term you probably will not have to touch it with a spanner before selling either.
Good info there Ollie. What type of riding you like is a big factor for sure.
Depends on lots of factors haveldirt.
Fit or unfit?
Lazy riding or like a challenge?
Dealer is close by and helpful or don’t care get your advice from here and parts from USA?
Like to conform or like something different?I have only one suggestion, in your position coming back from a long hiatus, you may not be able to get a ride on lots of different bikes… so if you have to take an educated pick from a bunch of bikes, choose one that is easy to get/find and easy to sell. Try not to buy something that needs 5 weekends to fix up to ride (stuffed). Once your in the dirt with you mates (and new ones), have a go on theirs so your next choice of bike will be “your choice” more than ours.
Bikes in this category (in my opinion) are: WR250/450, DRZ400, XR400, KTM300, KLX250. Safe bets these, all different bikes (slow/fast/light/heavy) but I think easier to sell again than others.
