If you haven’t moved any carbie or other breather hoses there are none that go any where near the airbox. The gearbox breather goes to the headstem between the radiators. I have extended mine up and along the frame to the top of the shock. I put my money on you laying it over on it’s side, the carbie as you know starts squirting fuel out all over the place when it’s on it’s side so it’s very likely some fuel will come out through some of the many holes and jets into your airbox. The fuel evaporates off as it has a crapload of air moves over it. Then your left with premix oil there.

Really only 2 possibilities. Filter oil or if you have been parking it upside down or on it’s side, premix with evaporated off fuel. It’s no big deal.

Manual says 24:1 yamalube. I have run 32:1 fully synth for ages on mine. I’m sure you would be able to run higher oil ratios than that if had to but jetting will probably be affected a little. Maybe.
Manual also says BR9ES but I cannot run that plug on mine. Too cold, keeps fouling. A BR8ES is more reliable.

hay rat if your riding a yamaha you should be right but us KTM riders need to bring a machanic with a bumbag full of tools to keep us going

Don’t you mean a bumbag full of KTM mechanics? They’re tools aren’t they?

No I won’t be. However, it’s not as bad as it looks. Jetting is a bit rich and there’s some cold seize marks from the last 2 owners. She has also sucked in some dust from a not-so-well-seated airfilter over the years too. It’s within spec still but considering the work to pull these 300s down and remove half the cooling system to get the bloody barrel off, I’ll pay for a new piston. Used to be much easier in the old days to do a top end.

Haha  You bet. Mental note there for everyone.

I find the grease nipple cap assembly for the trailer wheels work well. Just keep pumping grease through the bearings without having to pull them down as often. For the price of bearing kits it’s well worth doing them every 5 years at least.

By the sounds of it the castle nut wound so far up the stub axle the split pin was too far from the nut. The nut then unwound itself to meet the split pin to the point where the wheel was loose. I guess the vibrations would have annoyed you enough to stop before the hub broke off.

Scott from Suttos hooked me up with a nice Motobatt battery at a hard to refuse price. All sorted!

Good info Roy. I have a spare set of brushes from the last lot from the states. When I get a new battery I’ll pull the motor down for a clean and check. Cheers

There’s more DRZs on this forum than I realised…. :)
Anyone other than DRZ owners use motobatt batteries in their rides?

Thanks Gaz, that’s good to know. The Yuasa in there at the moment probably last about the same here too. I have a charger already that’s wired into the bike. It can only help the battery survive longer but if it’s a bad battery, it’s stuffed. I probably only ever elect started my 300 maybe 50 times since I’ve owned it. I kick it most times due to lack of cranking power. It’s reading 11-12V now (stuffed).
$89 is good value. The antigravity Li battery is very light and supposedly is good for 4-5 years. $200 however.
If the Motobatt is the proven product amongst us then say no more.
Last thing, us 300 owners usually require a more powerful battery than the 250/450 4st bikes (diff starter/system). Looks like Motobatt recommends the same battery however. Are there any 300 owners happy/unhappy with the recommended model?

Dusty I used to have a Hamtech on my ’00 KTM250exc. Great product. They were around $360 in 2002 which was rather expensive but did it cop a bashing. Mine looked like it was made from an Iraqi policeman’s helmet after I tortured it for a few years.
Hamilton was his surname. Used to make them in the old Tresseder shed in near Redbank in the Kiewa valley. I picked mine up there for cheap and he showed us how he makes them. I’m pretty sure he was killed but then again he may have been injured enough to go AWOL enoughe to be presumed dead. Some of us tried to get hold of the molds but wasn’t possible.
    Shame, was a quality product.

Funny stuff that honda rider Rocket.
Maybe there is an opening for a new sport – mental motocross. Kinda like drifting but you get scored for how stupid you look rather than style.

$3 tire shine should probably stay on the tires don’t you think rocket? Especially on that white bike you have? :) Hogs are good fun to ride. I know a few owners. Hang out down Bunglegumbie road clubhouse sometimes hahaa.
Silicon spray was always $8-14 for the reasonable stuff.
It’s kinda like the Greater ads: Why would you want good (silicon) when you can have greater (acf-50)?
Some people pay extra for a better product. As far as I’m concerned it is top shelf stuff. I just use it sparingly I guess.
Pleasure, Aido. Watch out of the bogans on there.
