Can a too loose chain cause problems. I’m not talking loose enough that it comes off.[/quote]G’day Roy, I can’t think of any but someone reading may have something to share. The chain should always have some tension when riding. Maybe if it was so loose and worn that under closed throttle the chain could ‘lift’ off the countershaft a little, giving your clutch slave a bit of a ‘hello’. In the past this issue happened because of rocks/sticks running with the chain not because the chain was loose.
Hey bigboy your chain was, has and is too tight as much as you don’t like to agree.
Countershaft seal leaks, wheel bearings flogged, hub cracked…
Sit your arz on the seat and make the swingarm horizontal then grab the chain. Adjust it so it’s not tight as a guitar string. If you get chain chatter when you ride it’s better than the problem you’ve got now eh? Forget the sticker thing, it’s bollocks.Good stuff. Alot of those old good times are a reason most of us ride today. The new versions of those old minibikes (virtually same design) have rudimentary suspension PDS style. Front and back too. Maybe KTM and Husa should invest in front suspension PDS too?

NO PDS or linkage there (no suspension there at all) and we still had fun riding them, like I said a minute ago get out and ride and enjoy what you’ve got no matter what brand. If you wanted to get a minibike/pitbike or the like for your kids to buzz around on would the parents of today consider those sorts of minibikes? I.e simple, fun, unbreakable and most importantly not made in China.
Yep I’m off topic

Quote:they are all fun, but for ME and many others 2T is funner, I hate engine braking it takes the control away from me therider, even my last big roadies had slipper clutches fitted, I like brakes (fairly obvious eh TB?) and I brake how and when I wish to, and if I want to sail into a corner freewheeling I damn well will.
And Barker of course that’s all I’m saying, big lazy torquey 2T in light chassis will kick ass so why wasn’t it allowed?Same here. Depends on taste and experience. Trails or Single Track….etc
Does anyone remember minibikes called Taco or Rockhopper?

Quote:There are always those that froth at the mouth and start jibbering when it comes to the PDS. But really, how many riders here and on other forums would ever take the PDS past its performance limits ? Not many… For the weekend warrior they work well and are almost maintenance free, sure they have got their niggly traits but once you get used to them you know what to look for, and you know when the rear is going to jump around on you..It’s all part of the usual fear campaign to find something to hold over the Orange bikes. When they all finally have a linkage they won’t have anything to complain about, maybe. You never know, they may even buy one one day (like Bruce might). There’s probably enough of them around nowdays anyway (I have one too). For me I’m kinda stuck with them as my requirements are 2T and Rego in this sheet state of ours NSW. There is no other dealers around me other than GG (I fear them, I don’t know why).
Your right though, when you see something that may assist in spitting you off you do what you can to minimise the damage (big tree roots or logs at high speed). Anything else is purely psychological. If you ride a PDS bike with the thought it is going to spit you off because of the rear suspension, guess what…..?
Every bike has it’s weakness, some just feel the need to constantly bang on about it, and so the the same arguments continue.
Ya full of crap rocket.
It’s way too hot in this kitchen.Been in Europe for 2 months rocket. Only been back a few days and am sleep deprived and irate. When I was in Austria I saw 4 KTMs: an old 400 LC4 and 3 KTM mountain bikes! We must buy them all? WTF.
It would be a mud fest out there. You environmental vandal, no wonder the Greenies are ass kicking our sport.
I’m too fat to ride, must have put on another 8kg.
I haven’t had anyone come out to buy my 300. Dubbo is just too far. Might drop it off to ekipS at Lithgow to sell for me, there’s an idea. I’d get a Yamaha next but for the dangerous cable-pull clutch on those things. When are they going to learn that hydraulic clutches are the way to go?No offence taken. Good read. My point however was more focused on your idea that because someone or ones at ADB has an opinion (PDS=crap) that correlates with your opinion therefore they must now have their act together on all things (after seemingly being off track for all these years)….
It sounded silly, then a little funny, but mostly silly. Magazines like a bunch of mates around the campfire, like a group of Internet forum posters, have their opinions and experiences have their fair share of b-shit and some truth in there somewhere – nothing new here.
I too have a nice scar where my collarbone was screwed back together from what some would say PDS related action, although jumping a log at 2km/hr and blaming that on PDS is a long bow.To me your efforts would have sounded better like this:
“ADB seems to be a better read nowdays – in my opinion. On a sidenote, PDS is still crap.”
Note: I have been away from forums for a while so am argumentative for some reason now I’m back.
Am I reading this right, Mr Blue? ADB has a bad word to say about PDS and suddenly it’s no more lies for them? Or maybe they are ‘starting’ to tell the truth now?
Have you really thought this through? Do you know how silly this sounds for us ‘average-trailriding’ KTM and Husa folk to read??Sure that’s fine. But you see when I clean my filter it actually looks like it just came out of the packet new, nice beige colour. The filter I got with the bike was Motul’ised and it’s surely going to be that blue tinge forever and ever. Says to me oil+dirt left behind. Like I said, I bet it works great but I aint cleaning anyones filter that uses it nor would I personally use it unless I had no alternative. Same goes for their 2 stroke oil (no point arguing with you 4strokers), I used it for years until I saw someone else’s head and barrel and looked at my carboned/gummed up nightmare – Motul and I, we don’t get along no more.
Without a doubt, it is a cracker of a dismount.
Surprised he walked from it.But, you see, that looks like an old pre-08 model. They fixed that in the next year model. Look I have it here, the part that failed has a star (*) next to the part number in my parts book…. means they fixed it right.
My 300 is still for sale. Will be on a Kato 200 by the end of the year in that case. Insurance pricks!
I thought it may be Dobbo from Dubbo? Wagga is good enough I guess….
Motul is waaay too hard to clean. It’s probably brilliant but I’d rather clean the Silkolene (from sca) coated filters twice as often than deal with that blue stuff. You have to wonder if the amount of chemicals and manhandling of a Motul coated filter, does to the filter foam itself??
