Hey Bob, no problem.
Very likely we will be still at the Wattagans Sunday till the evening.
Monday definitely riding with Mal up Clarence way. Let me know if you can or can’t make it as we get closer.Hehe we both have new brake pads…..and new tyres too!
I’ll have spare bolts for you just in case
Oh cmon, 99 models?
KTMs still handled crap in ’07!
When they changed frames things were not going to be the same.
The ’08s were the first models I rode and felt comfortable, steered, didn’t headshake and for 2 strokes – didn’t skitter over everything.
I still vote no for linkages on Kato trail bikesMoto wrote:
Quote:WHy not 60:1 Axel? That’s what the manual recommends. Do they run better at 50:1 or is it just peace of mind for you?I think I’ll get about 100Km’s from the standard tank before hitting reserve….
I have traveled 130km on my ’08 without hitting reserve on a ride recently. Mind you, were were riding “cautiously”.
I will bet that a new bike like yours that isn’t fully loosened up will drink fuel like crazy. Be aware of that. The mixture ratio for 300s is not a real debate anymore. Sure you can run 60:1 as the manual says but I only stand by 2 reasons not to:
1) No one I know will run 60:1. They have their own reasons. The KTMTalk guys also don’t recommend 60.
2) I read in recent months a KTMTalk forum member actually went to the effort to test 40/50/60. Hi comments went like this: 60:1 dry crank and big end bearings, 50:1 was nice oily coating/residue and 40:1 more oily again. As you may have gathered with KTM manuals over the years they like to make money. Their recommended maintenance schedules are crazy unless you ware a full time Pro racer. I believe the 60:1 ratio although probably quite safe for a racer rebuilding bottom ends twice a year… being trailriders and not wanting to touch a bottom end as long as live, will prefer a little more oil. It’s stuff all more anyway when you look at it.
Sorry to Tbone the thread everyone
Carry on.

In my opinion the answer is yes and no.
Linkages allow the factory to make changes to suit the shock absorber. KTM and WP try and make a shock that don’t need the linkages and perform the way we want.
Simple overall design.
Complicated shock design however and more difficult to tune.
The suspension gurus I would imagine prefer a simple shock setup they can mess with.I still stand by that 90% of “us” are not good enough to know any difference, or any better
C’mon Moto, you need a little container of oil with markings on it. Piece of cake. You would be one of very few running 60:1. Most of us run 40/50:1. I’ll show you my container when I see you next.
Murph, there’s only 2 from Dubbo arriving Friday evening to camp somewhere nearby. Grant and Axel as you have already noted.
We have 11 litre tanks, will this be an issue for us? Let us know if we need to leave fuel somewhere etc.
Good stuff Rocket. so it wasn’t just me. You coming on a ride this weekend or what?
Hi Mal, been a little while since we rode together with Patto from memory.
You are welcome to show us some more trails, that would be fantastic. Early as you like as we will be camping out there.
We shall see how the Sunday ride goes, we may be joining you for that one if the Wattagan party stops on Sat.
Will keep in touch.Feel free to have a spin on mine Moto if you like as a comparison. The jetting seems pretty good (haven’t touched it). New tyres will be on it so it should stay upright on it’s own
.
At this stage Grant and I will still be attending this ride and most likely the next day OBT ride with the young bloke on here (his name escapes me).

Pics of it in its hey day or its sad and sorry state of being a spider home now?
Hey Dan, pics of it’s current state. If it’s in one piece, working or not, I have a fanatical bunch of mates that will climb all over me for it and restore it. I’m not an IT man myself, WR200 I still own and restore in my spare time.
CheersThanks for the help TB. Those guys at Suttos are great to deal with all sorted.
CheersFront or rear TB?
The shipping cost is irrelevant now as I found out a mate is driving this way tomorrow, brilliant.
I’ll still go a D756 front but rear I’m not fussed about at all – scorpion rear then eh? The scorpions I got with my ’07 250 were the worst but I am positive they changed the tread/compound to something a whole lot better.

Thanks for the reply Ollie!
The retreads are not my cuppa tea but will look up the IRCs you speak of at Suttos. Will ring them for shipping costs too.
CheersYour right. Probably been around 5 times. I’ve only been with 2 different groups so I have only seen the same 2 areas you know what I mean. Grantmeister grew up there but it’s been 20 years since he rode there. He’s looking forward to riding there again.
Fair enough. Wouldn’t expect any less from a Honda, such a shame they abandoned 2 strokes. As long as you keep the water out of them. I’ll tell you Kawasaki linkages had a great habit of destroying themselves from memory. Most of it’s bearings did now that I think about it.
