OK TB, have been negotiating here for a solution.
Have yet to ask if Rocket wants to come, will ring him tonight.

I have myself and a ride buddy confirmed with a proposed plan for us:

As far as I understand your route, your coming from Hill End to Mullion State Forest partway through your ride. Ride the forest then ride into Orange for Lunch. From Orange ride out to Kinross for some nice mountain bike trails (mmmm).

Due to the long drive from Dubbo, and because our 2 smokers hate transport riding, we propose to wait at Mullion Creek Forest on the side that you lads are coming from at a pre-determined time and place. We ride with you guys in there and to Orange and back out. We will end our ride after the Kinross forest section when you guys head back to Bathurst somehow. Basically the best bits.

If, we don’t meet up at that time then so be it. Separate rides it is.

Is this a possibility or against OBT ride policy? :) :)

I’d say it would be a great service Bollocks if you take happy snaps of all the old shed bikes you come across. Sometimes you can find something that someone on here will pay for which would make the farmer’s day. I always keen an eye out for Honda CT and Yamaha IT stuff – for mates of course.

G’day TB, not getting much local support here due to the potential road miles your hinting at. How many K’s of actual “road” or fast fire trail are we talking about?
    Cheers

    Sorry mate, missed that post.
No, have not had to, however, I may have started noticing it drinking some water on my last few ride. Very inconsistent. Started dropping below the fins maybe 300ml worth. Sometimes was fine. May have been the same problem but didn’t need to find out, luckily.

As for the spark. Be very aware of the bumblebee wire, kill switch issue with KTMs. Elec start ones have 2 kill switches. Look after both carefully. I tape the switches up prior to washing every time. Corrosion will ruin your day!
If you are experiencing any electrical fault with your bike reach straight for the bumblebee wires (black/yellow). UNplug them to bypass the kill switches. We spent hours trying to get a 300 running. We tested everything. Kill switches “appeared” to be working but a slight resistance was all it took to randomly stop spark. Man did we pull some air out.

Axel, did you ever have to replace the water pump seal? I have the rotor off and I’m trying to figure out how to remove the carrier without ripping it apart but I can’t figure it out. Any tips would be appreciated.

Not specifically related but I thought I might throw it in for the general readers: My old KTM250exc-f had some very ordinary piston ring wear and one of the reasons (not proven) was sustained high speed riding. Any form of hwy or fast trails for long periods of time result in barrel heat build up which the little 250 couldn’t get rid of. Made sense to me, I tried to avoid it.

Pretty sure I and another Dubboian will be in the vicinity anyway. White Rocket might come along too I think.
Orange is preferred I’d say. Will keep an eye on this thread.

The crank locking bolt would have kept the whole setup at top dead center. The cam marks would have faced each other (pretty much exactly). Mark a chain link and the cam gears so you can put all of it back exactly where you found it. Remember it all seems out of wack until the followers and tensioner is put in. There should be no mistake with this on a KTM.

Don’t forget that the piston rings have to be positioned according to best theory as the piston has no locating pins as you know. If the ring end gaps are in the wrong position you have more chance of blow by and increased wear.

They feel right when you get on them (not like KTMs), they don’t get headshake (like KTMs), no PDS to smash your tailbone (like KTM) and they look fully sic mate.

It is a good price if your in the market for a 2 stroke and there is nothing wrong with it.[/quote]

Rubbish, rubbish and rubbish. Pre 2008 KTMs, maybe some bikes, but way too general a statement.

Problem with the Huskies is trying to sell them when your done with them.

Hope I don’t find those 2 guys coming toward me at that speed around blind corners….

Congrats on the decision Moto. Hopefully your upgrade will suit your style. 300s have big boots and come with high expectations.

if they knew how you treated it they wouldnt be so happy ya bike flogger

    Haha you little…
Not true folks. I am very particular with my bikes. I trail rode “hard” but by no means tried to kill it. I got 70hrs out of rings like everyone else (well most). Have not heard a bad word from the new owner.
Spike on the other hand, rides his 250 like it’s about to blow up and never gets to experience the fun and power it has to offer. :P Rip the guts out of that muffler and get on the gas! :woohoo:

Rocket man is right, you got to rev the biatch to stay in contention.

I now ride 2 strokes again and it will take a miracle to see me own a 4st dirt bike again. WR200 and KTM300.

MK1. All of 10min. 8min of that was finding screws… Screws go through the alloy plate into the white plastic. $4 for the brushes.
You can see the backing plate protruding. Stops the knobbies catching too.
The rubber strap is to hook onto the bike to keep it straight. The brush rests against the chain block when in use.
Will get around to making a better fandangled version but have too many other projects already. Proof of concept.

    Nice one Ecks.

    – Keep the o-rings moist = tick
    – Don’t let crap stick to the lube and chain = tick

Just don’t fall into the trap of spraying WD40 type solvents on your chain…

To combat the surface rust problem:
    – Wash it in the morning, leave it in the sun
    – Light compressed air to blow water off if you have to
    – or the best: ride it for 5 min to fling the water off.

It’s only surface rust anyway, no big deal other than looking bad.

I purchased 2 scrubbing brushes from the reject shop. Bent and screwed a side plate to them so the bristles face each other (kinda like a boot cleaning brush now). Sit it on the chain in front of the rear chain guide block. 1st gear slow on the bike stand with the hose squirting at it. Gets all the crap off it without hurting the o-rings. I can post a picture if anyone has interest.

I did the same thing, hired a bike. There were a couple of wise guys there who brought their WRF bikes along only to have major issues with RWC. Not worth it.
