I try my best to avoid Chinese helmets. The guy that puts them together has been instructed by their government to make the exported ones to Australia “special”. They will work fine until the day before the “invasion or landings” commence.
Seriously, I try for helmets made in Italy/Europe, for example (AXO etc).
Pivot Pegs are the best invention since disc brakes.
$180 is cheap. Mad to pass that up.
They are that good even Ecks used to have a set!Yes, as I mentioned earlier…
Quote:I made up a wheel brace from perlin cut-offs from a shed maker. Weighs about 2kg all up. A couple of angle iron cut offs on the front of the trailer for the tie down hooks – done.Cost me virtually nothing (only welding rods I guess). All the steel was cut offs from local businesses. The formply I purchased locally which was more expensive than getting it from Easytrailer! Darn it.
Quote:I am not saying for a minute that there is nothing to be gained from all this, I know there is, but for the amount of work and cost you are talking about is there enough to be gained is my question, given that I feel none of the bikes I have seen built or raced and won titles for GHR have modified cooling systems (and I have seen the engines being built for the A4DE, the spirit series and finke all title winning in one way or another the year in question). Are any of the bikes that kids are using to win races/ championships done, no if I believe what I am told, the kids that are winning you club championships arent modified are they, young Pollards RM isn’t done and isn’t he going well.I’m with TB 100%. Waiting and watching.

Quote:Ok tinkerer here (fiddler even:dry: ).At medium to normal slow pace I have a bike that to quote a dyed in the wool 4T freak is “the perfect 2 stroke for hillclimbing” it has oodles of grunt down low, with absolute instantaneous throttle response until……….I get into nasty overgrown clutch riding snotty S/T, it doesn’t fuel up (I have been around long enough to know when a bike has jetting or burn issues)but loses the lugability. Now the radiator doesn’t boil, but the bike reacts like it is overheating, which i belieev it is…somewhere in the combustion area is not getting the heat texchange it should be and as a result the power is suffering. Now these are the tracks where I need lowend response the most, cause with a handful of revs to aviod stalling and clutchwork misjudged you launch into the trees and undergrowth all too quickly.

Gday Bruce, seems to me your out of reasonable explanations why that’s happening. If I may, I’ll comment on your theory. Would you not be seeing symptoms of overheating other than boiling? Pinging? High or hanging idle? Spark plug showing blistering and other signs of overheating? Scorch mark under the piston crown? Too much compression?
To be honest, I’m not sure what’s causing your issues. I haven’t experienced it.Ah, I get it. Thanks Mal. I’m new here still. We’re a bit “special” out this way. I’m computer illiterate.
(Disclaimer – opinion only for the purpose of debate – I’m no expert)
So we have been waiting patiently. The thing is, it seems to me that this chap has discovered a way to measure the cooling system and make changes to reach a predefined “happy place” for it to function.
Even if we did know the finer details friends, it would be up for debate and in the end there will be few (i believe) that would bother making the change. There are 2 interested groups: those with a cooling system problem (due to manuf/design fault or setup problem – lean/air/damage) ; the perfectionist that likes to tinker. The tinker’ers may need a reality check as the perfect motorcycle will never happen or not worth the trouble. Apoogies for the harshness. This isn’t F1. If only we knew how dodgy the manufacturers are. You may as well build the bike from scratch yourself. Reminds me of that Tank the Germans had in WW2. It was superior engineering that built it, but it failed in the real world against other tanks.
Those with KTM250EXC-F bikes may be interested as I believe that engine has heat issues killing the rings (been there). Other bikes with known design issues may also benefit. But seriously, how many can there be? I still stand by the fact that most of overheating issues are bike setup and/or riding style. If all avenues are exhausted, sure go for it, what can you lose?
So, to save reading 7 pages of this thread, when is this “Christmas” party ride anyway? It’s not far from here, if the timing is right I may pay a visit.
I forgot about the folding up. It’s a great feature. I use it. I store the trailer under the eaves of the house against the wall.
Your 4bie will pull anything.
I say get one with the formply, put a good hitch on the end of it. All good.Pictures tell 1000….
Nah just stirring mate. They still have square edges on them, impressive. Have to take ’em on a real ride at Orange or Lithgow and see how they go in the damp. I’m always open to new stuff. I run Dunflop 765 fronts over Metzler any day.
Bought that off ya mate Mendham did ya?
Light duty? Well, I don’t agree. If you loaded it up with 3 bikes to do the Birdsville track then your looking for trouble….
I only carry one bike because the 2L camry that tows it protests enough with it and a bike (only ~200kg). A 9×6 trailer with one bike didn’t allow the car to reach 100km/h (that’s how gutless my car is).
The only week point I see is the standard tow hitch. I removed mine and replaced it with an after market cast iron one ($30-40).
The trailer has plenty of flex which is good. It will flex all day without breaking with serious weight on it. Springs are good enough for 3 bikes, too stiff for just my one. I’ve overtaken with it at 140+ km/h, no dramas. In summary, if you want to tow 1-2 bikes without the need for the trailer to do anything else = easy trailer. If you have a gutless car that hates towing = easy trailer. If you have a good car and need a trailer for hauling bags of concrete, gravel and the like = box trailer. If you like bling = get a proper bike trailer made up with shiny alloys.
Hopefully Duncan won’t lead me off any cliffs when I go over there next year! Hope that comrade pulls through.
I’d say your best bet is to ask on the forum that has the most WR/IT/DT enthusiasts. Search for yamaha it and you shall find. Unless you already have, as I have seen a similar request recently there.
I’ve had a easy trailer for a couple years.
That wheel brace I have seen on my brother’s ET. It’s very heavy duty (read heavy).
He uses it to transport his Harley.
Would I trust it without tie downs? No way.I made up a wheel brace from perlin cut-offs from a shed maker. Weighs about 2kg all up. A couple of angle iron cut offs on the front of the trailer for the tie down hooks – done.
