Picked up the Berg this morning, it was a cheap repair – $2100.00

They could not find much wrong with it engine wise it only needed 2 inlet values that were slightly worn replaced but I got them to do a few things while it was all in bits – new Rings, Valve Stems, Cam Chain, Rear Swing arm bearings, front wheel bearings, replaced all the gaskets, fully tune the bike with the baffle in etc, etc just to name a few things of the top of my head.

When it all boils down it looks like the big puff of smoke was my fault from all the research I have done. The smoke problem looks like it may have been caused by me putting to much oil in the night before when I did an oil filter & oil change. I put in the 1Lt of oil but may have not emptied the engine enough, I normally let it empty for about 30min’s or more when I do an oil change but i did not do that on this occasion, trying to do things in a hurry instead of taking my time…..Bugga

Apparently the Bergs do not like to much oil in them.

It was a good day until the Berg let me down for the first time, soryy for stuffing up eveyones ride but as they say shit happens

The bike is running but still blowing white smoke, not as bad as the original big blast when I hit the NOS switch….LOL

I am talking to a couple of mechanics at the moment still not sure who to take it to, either Valley Force or Sharptune at this stage. Will update you all with the outcome.

It was a great day. I had a ball but I can tell you my legs are still stuffed from all the single track. I need to do more riding to get the fittness up to scratch.

That hill were we all decided to taste a bit of dirt was a lot of fun

I can not wait until we go there again now that we have sussed the area out a bit better and can find our way back to the cars.

When I sort out how to use this new gps properly I will be able to log the tracks and also make a good mount for it on the bike.

One of my mates I ride with is doing almost the same ride in Feb 2010 – Cost is around 6K aus which covers Air tickets, bike hire, fuel, backup vehicle, accomidation and most meals. I was supposed to go with him but I can’t make it due to some work that is scheculed in around the same time. Would have been great and a major bonus is he speaks the language.

I was sitting home doing stuff all, I almost loaded the bike a headed out by myself but ended up doing a service on the Yamaha and started servicing the Berg instead. The wife hates me dirt riding by myself since my borther in law died last year on a ride.

Was that Neerim South you went too, the DSE have two loops marked out there I have been wanting to try, one of them is supposed to be real good.

I’ve got an original pair of the Pod MX knee braces, I won’t ride without them.
When they wear out I will uprgade.
I was lucky I got them on eBay for $400 delivered from the US, they were brand new in the box never used. The cheapest price I could find here in OZ at the time was $900.

You can’t go wrong with wearing a good pair of proper knee braces in my opinion, I know they are not cheap but better than letting the white coated people near you.
