many fond memories of those type of rides. I used to leave from Dudley, ride through the awabakal national park through a tiny sand ST and pop out at redhead bluff. Of course if there were any bird watchers through there you copped a right royal stink eye but usually it was just me plodding along.
If I had a group with me I’d take ém straight to redrock and punt our way on the now fernleigh down to blackies. Couldn’t avoid some time on the tar through to Caves Beach though.
Personally I think you really need to ride with caution in that area. There is a reasonable chance of encountering a bush walker or MTB’r. With the development at Murrays beach there seemed to be a few more people kicking around the bush in there.
The furthest south I went was to continue on over to Moonee..lifted our bikes over the gate then rode up the hill into Lake Munmorah NP and down to the Elizabeth Bay takeaway….was amazed to see it all boarded up a few years back.
Ah newy….so many options….Suggy, Awaba, Watties, Catho, Necknock, Cedar Creek and then Bula/Stroud not that far away
Crikey and you and Tim are really suckers for punishment aren’t you? I was happy enough to ride down those hills….the last memory I have of riding up wave rock, boxing day 2010….thankfully it was a cold day but on the wet side. There was more dragging than riding
Wonder how far NPW will go with that section of watagan creek road, if they’ll do their best to close that whole section of the road or devote some time for repairs??
Always love having a look through your reports Murph, and love the pics :cheer:
I was tempted while over there mid Sept Murph….but $400 for 3hrs aboard an RMX didnt seem like good value to me.
SOLD
…sorry Mike, no garage makes it hard to even store let alone do the maintenance. There did appear to be some great trails a bit west of Noosa and then of course there’s endless potential around Byron hinterland….for this summer though I’ll enjoy not having to worry about rego, fuel, insurance, air filters etc etc.
A 690 looks like it would tick several boxes.
I have a buyer….
but reasoning for not taking it to QLD is
– living in the city = no garage or decent area for storage and maintenance
– confidence in other bike shops, Newcastle KTM have been awesome and my faith in most other shops is next to none
– hot climate, I hate riding in the heat…bought a new surfboard and can surf all year round..I had a ball back home, Stroud, Watagans, Awaba single…knew the trails, had a good bunch of blokes to ride with..but unfortunately things just werent going to line up for riding in QLD at the moment. Have my eye on the adventure options though.
Sounds good Lotsa….just gotta put the berg back together…can be a tricky little bugger.
mate that is a massive days ride in some decent terrain. Mental note….wait til I’m an ironman before attending a Lotsa ride.
Wow…..that is mighty impressive….most impressive riding pic I’ve seen in a long time. I wouldnt have even thought it possible if I laid eyes on it on the trails.
mate is the trail bike rally being held up there this weekend?
You could try the Stroud Central Hotel. Kev the publican has the big shed to lock up the bikes, the rooms are super comfy and the trails are 5mins away.
Paid up.
Perfect, pay week this week :cheer:
Let me know the details of where the $$$$ need to go
No bites yet gents….will keep trying though. I’m really looking forward to getting a set.
I’ll grab a set for the 2010 FE390
…may be able to drum up a little more interest for a few other sets. I’m keen to get a set on the bike within the month though….
Murph, that trail is nothing like I’ve seen around the watties as yet. Were you down around Bangalow region and linked up around Monkey Face?
Anyone got a copy of the helmet camera footage?
