    oops forgot.

well done on the ride mick, that cells area is a favorite of mine for riding and camping, we quite often come across fellow dirt bike rides that stay at gingers.
we should organise a big ride up there??????x-mas party maybe????

Yesterday, after fitting a set of Bridgestone Trailwing road/trail tires to the XR, I decided a bit of a shake down ride was required.

After being somewhat vocal about the Oxley Highway in another thread, I thought I would incorporate a run on the mountain into my ride to see what the Ulysses boys where whinging about.
Firstly I headed off from Wauchope up to Comboyne, then across to Elands via the dirt roads. A quick stop at Elands store for fuel, only to find out that there wasn’t a drop of fuel to be found as they had run out the day before.

A quick phone call from the phone box to Gingers Creek store, confirming they had fuel, saw me on my way, taking my time in an effort to conserve fuel as it is a 50km run across the Bulga plateau to Gingers creek and the Cells River region is not the best place to run out of fuel.

I was cruising along checking out road side trails for future reference as I went, as I rounded one corner I came across a large group of riders on KTM’s parked on the side of the road, looking all hot and bothered. I stopped for a bit of a chin wag and they told me they were from QLD and were doing a two day ride in the Cells and using Gingers Creek as a base.

After I left them it was a quick 20km dash to the Oxley Highway, where I entered the highway at Stockyard creek rest area. A 3km run from there saw me at Gingers Creek where I topped up the tank after traveling 108 km.( last ride I did the XR ran dry at 104km)

Then I set off down the mountain with no intention of sparing the horses. It was a pretty warm day and the tar was nice and tacky and the road surface was smooth, nearly awesome in my book. There wasn’t a sign of any the loose gravel the Ulysses guys complained of and I had a ball. For those who haven’t done the Oxley Highway, it is 56km of winding road, a majority of it done in hotmix, so in my opinion it was sweet.

Having never really ridden the XR with anything but knobbies,I was having a ball hooting around the corners (Corners that would be at home on a race track) on the trailwings. So much so, on inspection of the tyres when I got home, there wasn’t the tiniest hint of a chicken strip on the rear. :woohoo:

So in my opinion after running down the Mountain, I cannot see for the life of me, what the Ulysses boys where on about, I saw no loose gravel and there was only one pot hole that could do with a dab of tar. There were two things that did concern me though and that was how many convoys of freaking caravans I had to pass on the mountain and the Highway patrol car I passed at Yarras whilst maybe doing a fraction over what the speed limit was. :S

I arrived home to an icy reception from the “trouble and strife” after doing 191km for the ride. Apparently the missus was under the impression that I was just going for a short ride up the road to bed in the new tyres. The fun I had, out weighed the grief I got, so all is good in that department. :P

Dunno what the Ulysses crew where on about, the Oxley is in awesome condition if you ask me. I rode to the conditions and had a ball!!!

I had the opertunity to take the XR6 throught he same stretch of road Mick is talking about, twice since the said accident.there was the odd broken up section near the very end of the windies on the long flat end..other than that it was a very pleaseant drive,(both kids and Missus where asleep)so lets just say I made exceptional time..
I could not see where the road could cause an accident,,theres plenty of corners that will bite if you get them wrong, but thats not the roads fault ,now is it.
