They are a great machine!! In 1998 I bought a second hand one for $3200 for my brother in law who came from overseas and wanted to hire a bike for a big outback trip. We put new tyres and sprokets on it and after three weeks and 4800 k’s it never missed a beat even on the long transports the 250 was never far behind on regroups.
When we got it home I put the original tyres and sprokets back on and sold it for $3200:woohoo: The best hire bike we ever had and the cheapest!!
If HONDA still made XR’s and they put a electric leg on them, they would still go out the door IMO

Great ride report Nick, I remember some of those trails and bridges from a ride we did some years ago on TT600’s and we had a ball then too!! Good to see you using the big Tenere’s for what they were made for.B)

The whole Idea of spending money on suspension and getting proper weight springs and revalve etc . Is so that you can have the the ability to adjust your suspension to suit your riding. When I got my forks back from Teknik they had the clickers set at about mid range and they told me to experiment with them until I found the right tune for me.
Ride parks are a good place to experiment with this as you can ride the same track and adjust after each lap until you find what works best for you. Just remember to write all your changes down so you can go back to where you started if need be.
When I set the rear sag on the DR I had my riding gear on and panniers on the bike because thats how that bike will be used most of the time.
Money spent on suspension tuning is the best money you will spend on your bike IMO

Well after a few hot nights in the shed the pig is starting to get there!
I have put the heavy springs up front and drilled the holes out in the damping rod and added two more, with the gold valves added this has made a big diff to the front end and cant wait to test it out on the trails.
I also replaced the rear spring and fitted the bash plate.
The DJ jetting kit went in and I opened up the airbox  Yes I know it will burn more juice but it has made a huge diff to the power and I am willing to pay for that in fuel :)
A new unifilter and FM exhaust to help it breath and I am happy with the transformation so far.
Steve from advmoto helped me out with some wolfman panniers and racks and I would recommend a visit to his store its packed with goodies!

Silicone adhesive was recommended when I did mine so if for any reason they need to be removed an old butter knife would easily cut the silicone off. I have done over 8000km with mine on and they haven’t budged!

+1 I have 12500ks and they have’nt moved and have taken some love over the years!! Good cheap insurance IMO. :)

in reply to: Hampton 200 the ride that was #194990

Another great weekend at Hampton, Thanks to Hampton pub for looking after us so well.
My weekend was cut short due to a cold and sore arm  [its called getting old].
It was good to meet some new ob’s and touch base with some regulars. I always enjoy riding with my son and it was good to meet Adam and Sam another father son team. Ryan did a rad on his bike Sat morning and so he rode the drz in the afternoon only to break that as well!!
It was a quick fix for the drz with a wire broken on the Ignition, a spot of solder and she was away again. Thanks to all for there good company and I look forward to getting out for a ride again soon. Good work with the pics as always Chris.
