Next time Marty. Crash – check your PM’s.
Cheers BudgeGo the Sherco – you wont be disappointed!
Cheers BudgeMy favourite at the time was my ’72 Yamaha RT360. I thought it was just the ducks nuts. It had a decompression fitting in the head which I removed and put a spare spark plug in as it was always fowling plugs. Damn thing threw me over the bars a couple of times, kick start smashed into the back of my calf muscle a hundred times, the instep of my foot copped a hiding…..
The ’72 model was “dirt bike of the year” in its time in a NZ mag. It went hard tho and never let me down, well, not more than a couple of dozen times!
I take my hat off to the guys that raced these old bikes!
Cheers BudgeWR450 – sold it
Recently found a crack in the L/H crankcase cover on my WR450. Found a second hand one in WA, changed the starter clutch while in the same area as it was not engaging sometimes, put it all back together yesterday, changed the oil and filter and went riding with my son and Needlemeyer locally at Menai today. No leaks, bike went like a charm. Happy days!
During the parts replacement, I also changed the woodruff key that locates the flywheel on the crankshaft. Looking at OEM bike part sites in the States (powerplus and bikebandit), the key is U$2.81. I had to pay A$15 from Yamaha dealer in Sydney. I purchased the starter clutch from powerplus (but forgot to put the key in the order!) for U$91 + U$35 freight. The same part here was A$205.
We’re getting ripped off big time!
Cheers BudgeDitto

Yep, CT18 truck wash, a couple of cold ones then pressure wash. Works a treat. Absolutely no elbow grease required, which is good as I’m usually buggered after a ride. Boots are treated the same. WD40 and chain lube finish it off nicely. Cheers Budge
Axel – if you and Grant were on the 2 strokes, I was one of the three riders doing the single trail stuff with you and the only one that came off (WR450) – blame it on the slippery conditions!. Couldn’t keep up with you guys, but thanks for waiting at every corner. Yep, it was awesome fun. Cheers Budge
I too, had a leave pass for the weekend so just had to make the most of a bad situation and ride anyway. Lucky enough to bump into mal5.1 and join his little group. A great days riding – made even better by the person with the infectious laugh, who was still laughing right to the end, despite the weather!
Many thanks to the guys who helped me get my car and then the trailer out of the paddock!
Cheers BudgeDunlop D952 is my tyre of choice as well. Front and rear. Tried a few different brands over the years and as my better half dislikes “unnecessary spending” (upgrades, regular maint, tinkering, tyres,,,,) , I need tyres that will not wear quickly in the predominantly rocky/hard terrain I ride in, as well as giving confidence all round.
New rubber for the BD ride. Cant wait!
BudgeWent for a ride back of Menai yesterday morning. Heard a few bikes, but only saw one other rider that we spoke to for a while (riding by himself!!). No 4WDs where we were either. If you go early and stay away from the White rock area, there is some good riding. Ciao Budge
Going out in Menai for a couple of hours on Fri morning if anyone interested. My son (KTM450) has just put his bike back together after a refurb + one of his mates (KLX300) interested as well as me.
Cheers BudgeI’m in too. Will probably have room for a bike if anyone needs a lift from Menai area.
Cheers
