So when the anode wears out and is no longer there to be sacrificied which bit starts corroding. I’m guessing it’s the metal coil in there that carrys the water. Then you get the leak and hence a stuffed system. Is that right.

Great photos 250. It’s interesting to see the varying body positions between riders, especially the difference between a grade (100-199) and the c grade (600-699). Might be telling me something I think.

Great action shots. They really seem to convey the speed. I see a couple of the boys saw the camera in time to put on a show.

Another place to look is the series website. http://www.nipes.com.au . Sometimes there are photos and videos that get put up there if people have sent them in. Did you enjoy the Inverell track?

I don’t really know the area. So is it all unregistered bikes causing the trouble or is it registered bikes riding where they shouldn’t as well. ie in national park etc. I don’t mean to be super critical, I’ve ridden in places where I shouldn’t as well. Just trying to point out that we maybe shouldn’t be so holier than thou. unregistered riders is a problem, so is not having enough places to ride legally. Riding in places where we shouldn’t wouldn’t be helping the cause either. So how do we get more places to ride.

Nick, Good review. You must have a very understanding wife. First she buys you the gear and then she lets you stand on the table whilst she takes a photo of it. Maybe you have an ugly melon though as she made you keep the helmet on and even then she cut your head out of the photo.

    Sounds like it’s good gear.

I got sick of all these supposedly motorcycle specific gloves letting me down and costing the earth. Heard there was some good gloves at bunning. I think they’re called ironsomething landscaper or something along those lines. Around $30 and are excellent. Have done a lot more work than any pair of mx gloves I’ve owned and are still good.

    SB,

Just had a look at those. Does the middle bit that covers the knee cap have a hard casing behind the cover material. It sort of looks like the bit that covers the knee cap is made from stubby cooler material. I’m guessing there is something hard there for protection though.

Thanks Snowy. The farm bosses are different as the the bigger models and have a proper foam air filter. The MS 250 and smaller are the hobby size (18″ bar and smaller) and to look at have a hobby air filter. My guess is the few times a year I use it for it will be fine but was just wondering.

I won a can of spray on air filter oil at the north star trail ride. Can’t remember the brand. No way it’s going on my air filters though. Figured it would be alright for chain lube though.

    Mal,

In looking again, I just noticed that you have mounted it to the top of the bash plate on the right hand side. Is that a frame rail behind the bash plate or something the plate protects. I’m guessing it’s a frame rail that the bash plate rests up against. If not the pipe guard will get a fair bit of leverage to bend the bash plate. Not sure where else you could mount it though that doesn’t give the pipe guard heaps of leverage on its mounts. The bloody pipes just stick out too far past the frame.

In saying all that, when I had mine off the other day doing the top end I noticed it has copped most of its hits in two areas. Mostly directly underneath from climbing very slow over things on hills etc and only just getting the front wheel over before coming down and stopping with a bang. I’m probably a bit lazier than I should be too because I know it’s there.

The other spot is up high on either side. These tend to be higher speed hits as they are generally catching on stumps etc after something else has sent you skewif and off line into it. The bad news about these hits are they have maximum leverage on the guard mounts as they hit the guard the furthest distance from the mounts.

Worst case I’ve had is, I was in the process of falling off after hitting a rock at about 60km/hr. Bike was off the ground and heading towards getting horizontal (seat level with wheels) when the pipe guard caught the top of a tree stump. Stopped the bike dead. I continued on in my original trajectory. Luckily both the bike and I were unscathed and I could continue the race but that was one occasion when the guard needed some remolding.

Good looking bike mate. Way to much bling but for the treatment you’re about to give it. You tamworth boys sure do like looking fancy. Is the basket on the front to carry the rag after you take it out of the air box.

    Mal,

Looks bloody good mate. My only comment is that I would consider putting in more of a gap between the pipe and the guard. I have a whipps guard on the ktm and it started out with between 25 and 50mm air space between the two. When I first got it I was worried it made the bike too wide and the gap was excessive. It did make washing the pipe easy though. Since then I have closed this gap to 0mm more than once and have had to re-bend the guard back out to get it off the pipe.

Your guard is a different shape to the whips and has different support points so hopefully it will be right. I am not criticising your work or design just trying to add some constructive advice on things to look out for.

On the width note. I have only ever once caught my guard on logs, rocks etc as I’ve tried to squish throught gaps. I used to cringe every time waiting for the crunch but it always seems to miss. I think the widest point is up high so it seems to clear things better than you expect. My guard is wide enough that when I first got it I used to hit my foot on it putting it down for corners.

Just got round to looking throught the photos and couldn’t resist putting this up. Especially whilst Aaron is away and can’t defend himself.

Luckily a steward came out to tell him to stop crying and get off the track

In a different race things got a little ugly for me after the big log too. Luckily I just managed to stay on. Guess which ones me.

Looks good Murph, I gather there has been a bit of rain before or your definitiion of two “showers” is a little rubbery. Do those slab rock hills provide any grip at all when they are wet or are grippier than they look.

Looking at the angle of his boots I think he needs to adjust the amount of free play in the rear brake pedal.
