Thanks for the replys. I’m not worried that it’s not a fundraiser. Was just wondering. I also think the sport needs people like John and realistically if they are not making some coin then they will not hang around. Since you said it was okay a few more questions.

Is there a minimum distance the riders have to cover a day and do they get the boot if they don’t make it?

Is there a website I should be looking at instead of annoying you all? I did a bit of a google and there is a bit of a section on the APC website but that was it.

How long has the rally been going? I gather from the simpson desert comments this is not the usual route or the first event.

Does the entry fee cover your accomodation, food or is this all on top as you don’t really know where you will be staying each night depending on progress.

That will do me. I don’t even have an adventure bike so it is all for interest sake anyway, no real potential for me entering but it does sound fun.

I’ve only just picked this up so sorry for my ignorance. How does this rally work. From what I gather there is a 7000km loop with riders starting from various locations. Is it a race? I gather the term rally means it may not be a race and also the fact that there are legal speed limits on the roads. Is there rules on how many hours a day they can ride etc? I get the impression you do it as a team, not solo. What’s it cost to enter. Is it a charity fundraiser? Too many questions.

Whe we did the arvo loop we had a lot of trouble passing a few of the sweeps. Mainly because they were better riders than us. They were having fun and so were we. I ended up passing one sweep on the outside around the edge of one of the cultivation paddocks. I think it took him by surprise and I must admit was really hoping he wasn’t going to drift too wide. Hope that wasn’t you Gibbit, but I think it was a blue bike not a white one although the colour of the bike wasn’t really what I was concentrating on at the time. Powersliding corners is not really my forte.

Also Aaron, I think I followed your first ever bike home all the way from North Star to just south of Moree. A MX80 twin shock with the muffler sticking out at a weird angle. Would of got a photo but I thought it would of made the passengers nervous doing it whilst moving.

This is too much for my little brain to get around. If it works on the principal of the heat expanding the air to blow up the tyre wouldn’t the tyre just go back down once the air has cooled back down half an hour later. What is the stuff they spray in, is it just any old aerosol.

    Nick,

I know you said the goggles have all replaceable parts. Can you get new foam parts for the bit that goes against your face and the air vents at the top and bottom. The air vent foam always goes on my normal goggles and next thing you know your eyes are dust city. The camera part certainly looks the goods, my only concern would be the goggle part lasting the distance. I’m guessing all this has been worked out as you don’t exactly have to be a rocket scientist to realise that goggle longevity is an important part of the system.

Great vids and reports. Looks like awesome riding. Ev, you missed a great opportunity there to water roost the million dollar goggles. How’d you go on the widow maker Ev.

There’s nothing worse than a vindictive neighbour. Hopefully, they are serial whingers at the council as well, which should make the council less inclined to help them.

See you there Gibbit. I’ll be there about 8.30 Saturday. I’m on the orange ktm. No, it’s a 300 with Bike Territory stickers all over and a whipps “bullbar” pipe cover. Hope to catch up.

Whats the enduroX track like. I hope the lights are good because if I have to rely on the KTM light I am screwed.

Sorry, I know this is drifting away from the original thread topic but the more I hear about these objections the more I realise that until dirt bikes become quiet there will always be problems. As a competitor you don’t notice it. I was at a mates place the other day where the neighbours kids were out on the track for a few hours. Even me as a bike rider wanted to wring their necks after a few hours. The noise is loud and monotinous. I couldn’t understand peoples complaints before but I can now.

I know the complaints come in the form of environmental concerns but I would bet that if bikes were much quieter the complaints will go away. Basically if you can’t see it and you can’t hear it you don’t complain about it. Surely there is a way to keep bikes quiet without loosing the power. Even a change of pitch would probably help. It’s not looking good for the future of riding at the moment. Kyogle council sounds like they are about to kill riding and now Hastings as well (or are they the same council, I’m not sure).

    Moto Chick,

I’m not 100% sure as it is hard to tell for sure in the photo but I think the clip on your joiner link in the chain is on backwards. The solid end needs to be facing in the direction of rotation not the split end or it could come off. As I said I may be (and quite often are) wrong as the photo is a bit small to tell but just thought I would mention it just in case.

No need to drain the coolant hey as most of it boiled out on our last ride at dirtbike territory!

Fair bit in that Aaron. Looked in there and there was no green stuff left. Thought I had better update that situation considering the temps where I was heading. Didn’t boil but didn’t get a real work out either. Got the 1.8 bar cap to replace the 1.4 and I must say it is an awful lot tighter than the old one was so maybe the old one wasn’t even 1.4 by the end.

Whilst I am appreciating all the work the MCC is doing, I had not heard of it before this thread. I have been tied up in our local dirt bike club for over 5 years now and all our dealings are with MNSW. Is MNSW tied in with the MCC in any way or at the very least do they support you in your endeavours.

I’ve had a look at your website now and it appears that most of the things you do are road bike related and I guess this is where the bigger bike riding numbers are. In saying that, the fact that you are looking into rec rego indicates that you represent all riders including off road riding. Are there any dirt bike clubs that are MCC members.

It’s my understanding that in victoria rec rego lets you ride on some roads but not main roads. I’m guessing this means you could ride on dirt roads in the forests but are probably banned from most/all tar roads. It would be good to get some clarification.

They will insure it if it is for private use but as soon as you say it is for work purposes they can’t back away fast enough. I would have thought it should be the other way around as you are likely to be more responsible when working.
