Great report. Love the writing on Dudes visor.
Murph,
Luckily for me I don’t get it. I know I should because I am one of the most sit down riders you have ever seen. Maybe it is just tough after years of sitting down!
Anyway lots of blokes I ride with fall into two camps. The first camp swears by vaseline. They put on great wads of the stuff before a ride. Buy it by the gallon in tubs larger than I knew was available. It doesn’t sound too comfortable to me but they swear by it.
The other camp uses the stuff you can buy for haemorrhoids. I think it has the highly original name of Anusol. I think it has some sort of anesthetic in it. It is fairly mild and is available without prescription.
The third option is to get yourself a pair of the padded bike pants and wear them under your pants.
As for curing it now that you have it, go to the baby section at the supermarket and get some nappy rash stuff. My kids are just old enough now that I can’t remember which one works the best but they are all relatively cheap and most work.
All I got mate. Hope it helps.
Was on a ride with a kwaka with no kickstart the other day and the bloke had a stack and destroyed the button switch. Luckily there was enough left to make it work. You can still roll start the drz if push comes to shove anyway can’t you or have they gone all flash with efi.
Did they wash it for you too.
Don’t be lazy on the oil changes Boll. On the 250 it will really come back and bite you on the arse. They are oil killing machines that don’t like bad oil.
Kat I think Rodney must be blessed. If he was in that position on my bike in that mud he would be covered in shit yet on your bike he is a s clean as the day you put him there.
Couple of questions.
Is that an oil cooler out the front with the two braided hoses going to it?
What is the silver container with Gcraft written on it that connect to the hose coming out of the top of the engine?
Teza,
it’s around 6-7 hours drive from Sydney.
The list so far.

I found a fossilised dinosaur footprint in the second lowest layer of dust on his air cleaner on the Batemans Bay ride. That filter was like growth rings in trees, you could see the change in the seasons with the layers of dust.
House,
Make sure you tell the bloke on the XR (I thought it was Dick but Boll has Dave) to change his oil straight away. Get some cheap oil change it with that, take it for a good ride to get it hot and change it again. After the oil shows no signs of water then change it back to the normal stuff.
I might be wrong but it didn’t appear to me that he gets the bike out much and I’d hate to see it sit there for a long period with water in the bottom end bearings.
No need to give Aaron the same advice, he’s a seasoned campaigner at it now.
I think half the problem with the xr was Aaron filled it up with water again when they had the spark plug out.
One of the funniest things I saw all day was Roachie going through one of the puddles only to find it was tyre deep in slops and it speared him straight out the side and it would have been over the edge of the cliff only to be saved by a pine tree.
So is the new bike still new Wally or have you let it down.
Great report Kat. Good to see someone with the will and determination to see it through. Sounds like it was bloody tough. All the time spent with bike prep looks like it paid off.
A couple of the boys learnt a valuable lesson coming back from the last hill. Apparently when you are riding on the road through a town when there is a police car on the side of the road in that town it is not the wisest move to pop a wheelie down the street, even if the kids at the fair are egging you on. The boys ended up having a lengthy conversation with said policeman who luckily let them off with a warning.
All in all a good day. Thanks to Boll and House for organising, Pep for sweeping and the other boys for the entertainment.
Left home 6.30am and the first the thing I hear as I turn the radio on was “It’s a fine line between pleasure and pain, if you can do it once you can do it a again”. Thought this was a fine omen for the commencement of the ride where I was about to tackle all the best hills Nundle has to offer.
Was a bit nervous about the weather. I figured the predicted torrential downfalls were not going to improve my chances of coming out unscathed. Luckily these never eventuated and it was actually fairly grippy.
Saddled up and hit the trails following Houses fine figure. We headed out to the steps first. All was going well although there were a few laughs as a few of the boys slid down some of the hills on the way there. Got to the creek crossing at the bottom of the steps and there were bikes everywhere. Had to dewater Aarons bike and a xr400 after a couple of little laydowns. Finally got the xr going and following Aaron up the rest of the hill was like riding through a tropical fog there was that much water coming out of the exhaust.
Had a little incident on one of the fire trails. Thought I would pass somebody going down a hill even though it wasn’t the best line. Had to jump across two deep ruts and this part was fine, only to find that it led to one god almighty bike swallowing rut on the downside of a cliff face drop and I couldn’t stop in time. Into I went and the whole front end wedged solid instantly. Of course myself and the rest of the bike kept on coming. Didn’t end up going over the bars but the bike pivoted around the headsteam until it hit the bump stops and then I just kept going. No damage to me but there were some awful cruching noises coming out of the bike and I thought there would have to be serious damage the way it twisted. Luckily the ground was soft and it looks like I just pulled the headlight plate off and crunched a blinker.
We then did the rocky hill in Aarons video and about half of us made it up. Pep was sweep and he road up and down all day keeping those at the top informed of carnage below.
The day was getting long in the tooth by now and the boys wanted to go home and get their mums to tuck them into bed. Aaron mentioned that one of the hills we were meant to ride was nearby, so I said I was up for it if he was. The men (Aaron, Zack, Jarrod and me) seperated from the women and went and had a look at “Sweet mother of Jesus” (I hope I got that right). There is another name for it as well but it is a little uncouth and I don’t need to have to go to church any more times than I already am this week so I won’t mention it here.
On the way there we had to cross this minor trickle in a creek. Aaron was leading to this point and he stopped dead before the creek. I think he has Hydrophobia after some recent bad experiences, so I held his hand for a minute and led him through.
This was the bottom of the hill. Me being the only one who hadn’t even seen the hill before, Aaron thought it was only right that I go first and that he not give me any tips on the lines. We couldn’t see the way at this stage as it was around the next corner.
Off I went, got round the corner and holy crap, this hill was 20m wide, not as steep as I was led to believe (small blessings), but it was 20m of solid ruts. Most of them weren’t that big at the bottom but the biggest ridge between ruts was 3 bike tyres wide and even they ran out as the ruts crossed over on the way up. Nothing for it so, I thought I saw a line on the left around the edge that may not be too bad, and off I go. Of course after about 10m this perfect line became a rut (who would have thought) but it was grippy and the bike kept going so I decided to stay with it. With some gentle persuasion made to a point where I could stop and watch the carnage below. Everybody made it but we had help Zack on the CR250 2T. A little too much powerband wasn’t helping his cause. Funnily enough Zack learnt how to tractor a 2T by the time we got to the top.
We were only one third up at this stage but the rest wasn’t too bad due to the grip. Aaron had a little slide at one point but offered to neuter me if I gave him assistance and rendered his summit invalid. The worst part of the hill was walking back down to help Zack on stage 2 only to find he didn’t need much help and then have to walk back up whilst Zack rested at the top.
Sorry I have no footage but Jarrod got some video so hopefully he will put it up.
