So when the track gets put up on the website how often does it show a point. Is it a set time interval or a set distance interval. Are there ongoing costs after the purchase price. I realise you would be paying for the text messages but how much is it to track a trip on the website.

Did he eat it? I like the bike prep. Hasn’t done a pony express in 6 months but still has his number stuck on. Looks like a good ride in good conditions.

If house was leading how come you were in front of him to get the photos. Get behind boy!!!

So how many balls to a front tyre, did he say. Do you pack them tight or just put them in and leave that 3/4 of a ball gap that is bound to be left over at the end.

Has he ever run them in the rear. I guess the diameter is bigger than the balls and they wouldn’t take up the slack.

Where is it? I’m guessing having to ask means it’s not near me.

Mal, the series is getting there. Just did some analysis on rider numbers from this year.

Uralla – 92 riders (about normal)
Bike Territory – 85 riders (down a bit due to torrential rain, people thought it was cancelled)
    Narrabri – 126 (about normal)
Inverell – 67 (low, changed date and round before was rained out)
Upper Horton – 119 (about normal)

The Moree round was rained out (track under water), rescheduled and rained out again.

We averaged 98 riders per race, so not too bad but down a bit from last year. Hoping to build on it this year.

It’s a pity numbers at Inverell were down as they just changed the track to incorporate the track used by the state round pony express series. A little tighter and more technical.

Hey Bundy, do they do a junior series??

    Mick,

Just had a thought. The Armidale club has a grass track (sort of natural terrain MX) and a sprint series (enduro loop against clock, riders go out solo at minute intervals). Both of these have junior races and are also closer to you. Look here for dates http://amcc.asn.au/ .

You can get one for $370 here http://www.venom-group.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=0397 in early December apparently. They do look like fun and relatively robust. Also need another $40-$50 for the battery.

Yeah the spring was why I left it alone. After fixing up my starter motor I hate spring loaded stuff. My gumby fingers are not designed for dainty work.

Two last questions regarding the carby.

    1. When I put the carby back in I thought “what angle”. I assume it goes in a vertical position when bike is vertical. That’s where it is at the moment anyway. I look at the thing every day and for the life of me I wasn’t sure at the time.

    2. The idle jet (the long thin one that steps down to the filterish looking end)that is in the bottom of the tube beside the main jet. Should you be able to see light through that. I could blow through it reasonably easily but could see no light and when I put a bit of thin necklace wire up there it would not go through. I did not try and force it as I thought if it was only dirt blocking the way then it should give easily.

One last piece of advice for people planning on doing this. Have a look at the schematic in you bike parts catalogue. I just did and I must say things are a lot clearer now.

They both show amazing skills. It puts a new spin on pulling a wheelie. You know you are not paying for the van though when you are prepared to ride over it.

Thanks Mick. I do understand what you mean. Thought about undoing the needle on the slide but thought I was only creating work for myself and let sleeping dogs lie. I did pull out the idle jet. It has a little setup on the end that looks like a filter with 8 litle pin holes. I did spend a fair bit of time cleaning and blowing it out. Bike seems to idle fine now but I did only take it for a 5 minute ride so I will need to do a decent ride before I am convinced I have rid myself of the problem.

Finally bit the bullet on the weekend and got stuck into the carby. All came apart fine. Pulled the bowl off. No dirt or water there, not that I was expecting much after the royal flushing it had when I pulled the drain plug out the weekend before with the fuel tap still on.

I then unscrewed everything thst I could on the top half of the carby. Dosed everything with a healthy spray of carby cleaner and blew out all the internals. The only place I noticed where there was some blockage was the bit right in the middle. It was a brass bit that was a 6mm nut on the end with a hole up the middle (the rest undid with a screwdriver). Held it up to the light, no light (wasn’t sure if there was meant to be at this stage). Blew on it and then all of a sudden there was now a reasonable size hole (well compared to the size of some of the others).

I thought there was more than one needle in a carby. The only needle I found was under the float to stop the fuel coming in from the tank. What are the jets? And people talk about the clip position. What is this, I didn’t see any clips.

I hope I did it right. I put everything back as it was and the bike seems to run better. I’m just a bit worried as I din’t seem to find all the bits I hear about that I didn’t pull it down far enough and there may still be shit in there.

No not that one. The one about 500 metres further up when you thought that you must be over the worst of it by now. We were the first there and had to do it off natural surface. I think they piled a few sticks in front to help the later riders after we went through.

We had to get over a log a bit smaller than that (it was about the same size but the bottom bit was buried in the ground) on a guided ride once. Was shitting myself but had no choice. I definitely didn’t do it with that sort of style but I did manage to get up on top and then push myself over and I was happy with that. Mate I ride with does that sort of stuff. Just makes you feel inadequate watching them do it.

Yeah it’s a pity. I think it may be a dead duck now for good or at least a while. The Tamworth club used to run it and they have run out of volunteers. Coona has just formed a club so they may be keen in the future but the only hassle is we already have 7 rounds and I don’t think anyones too keen on 8. So unless someone drops out they are out for a while to come. So never say never but don’t hold your breath either.
