Whilst it is inspiring to see people passionate in defending things that they like it would be my guess that the word that has been scrubbed out at the top would indicate that the article was written in jest. Remind me never to say a bad thing about an XR!

I will not be there my wife has a big scrap booking weekend at Lake keepit. That should be a ball! She plays hockey… I am just going to pretend she is going on a hockey trip so i feel better. And that I am missing out on the best ride the NIPES has for a worth while reason. WTF man life can suck.

Man you have changed! Get yourself organised, he who books weekends first gets to go! The race date has been set since January, you could have had it booked in for months. Now you are missing out on a 3rd place series trophy, some bike shine and a good night out in some illusional hope of getting more bedroom action. I heard that the chippendales were doing a big concert at Keepit this weekend. Hope your knitting works out!

I knew you and Digger were coming. Puppy even rang last night and confirmed although he still has time to pull out yet. See you on the weekend. Like your Avatar too.

And they say a picture says a thousand words. I know this is off topic and feel free to delete it but from this simple picture you can tell a lot about a person you don’t even know.

    1) The bike is immaculate looking with the full sticker kit
    2) There are two chains holding the bike to the shed
    3) The chain has a protective covering on the sections where it touches the bike
    4) The bike has an exhaust bung in when it is in the shed (and it is a 2 stroke with no valves to protect)
    5) The bike (that is already immaculate) is stored on cardboard to protect the shed floor
    6) The bike is stored on a stand to take the weight off the suspension. (I’d say it still has a side stand as it has barkbusters which rules out removal of sidestand for MX)
    7) I’m guessing Moto is a fairly good to bloody good rider as he obviously looks after his gear to the nth degree but does not have any skid plate or pipe guard.

I’m sure there is other stuff that can be deduced from this photo alone but I reckon I wouldn’t have too much trouble buying one of Motos bikes second hand anyway. This man obviously looks after and has pride in his gear.

Not sure what Moto thinks but I have tried these tyres as well. Have used two sets to date under fairly testing conditions from dry sand through top hard pack and rocks. First impressions were great. Both front and rear gripped like I had never experienced before when new. Very confidence inspiring. However after about 300km when they had lost there edge they went to the pack. I have never experienced a tyre that looses it grip so much once the edge has gone. They are not like the 756 in that they throw knobs and crack up with wear where as the 756 holds together but just wears down.

Admittedly I haven’t tried that many tyres. Well actually make that 3 types. I am a diehard fan of the dunlop 756 (which they are phasing out, much to my disgust) and I have tried the Metzeler M5.

In summary, if I had unlimited cash I would buy the MX51 and throw them after 150km. Realistically I can’t justify buying a tyre that won’t get me 500km so have gone back to the 756 until I can’t source any more.

Is that an old photo Mike or did they leave one bike behind. Not a good scenario, I feel your pain, especially with no insurance to at least ease the financial pain.

    TB,

Is that a standard tank decal. I reckon it looks pretty good.

    Mal,

What’s causing the rub mark on the red part of the rear sprocket. Seems odd, to low to be the chain and I would have thought the width of the chain would have stopped the chain slider from rubbing there.

Nice little bike. How do those training wheels work? Can the pivot up and down with the suspension or are they fixed. I was thinking if they didn’t go up and down ever time you went over a mound they would lift the rear or front tyre off the ground. Then if they do pivot then they would have to be spring loaded or something to stop them just pivoting when the bike was standing still. Maybe I am making something that is simple, complex.

That there is some scary stuff. I would not even waste my time trying to pull that back in. I would also be checking everything that relies on the axle being straight at the bottom of the forks. There would have been a god awful amount of twisting force going on down there. Very lucky in the end I think.

    Thread distraction over.

A great thread. Of special interest to me as it is exactly the same bike. B piston, does this mean first oversize and if it does how does this fit without any machining.

I have similar grooving issues in the exhaust flange. Was told about the issue and have been very concious about changing the o-rings every 25 hours. Still happens. Standard o-ring size is 44×3. From what others are saying maybe I should try 44×4.

I changed my piston and rings (at the shop) after 70 hours. They told me all was well. I’m at 125 hours and 4000km now and was considering doing it again soonish, but maybe myself this time. Hence why I’m loving this thread.

Last question, what the bloody hell did you hit to bend your triple clamps 20mm. I must have missed that thread as I’m assuming there was a good story to be told.

There is no way I would use a wr for touring. Like has been said before they love oil changes. This is not a criticism of the bike. They are great bikes and the pick of the enduros but that is what they are, enduro, not touring. Like TB said if yamahas had an hour meter standard I reckon SB would be very surprised what his average speed is. Most enduro bikes I know, even counting blokes that race are lucky to get an average speed of over 40 km/hr.

I’m not sure how much difference a cush drive makes but riding a standard wr on the tar at a constant speed even feels wrong. I guess this would change a bit if my bike was geared for tar speeds.

There are a lot of good touring bikes that are cheaper than the wr anyway.

I’m certainly not complaining about the way they have lasted. I was happy to get 4000km. Never have on my old yamaha. More of a comment on the way it wore down than anything. Just surprised that there was no curling over of the front sprocket teeth.

Saw a bloke at a pony express missing 1 or 2 teeth on the front sprocket at the start of the race. By the end of the race it looked like he only had a few left and he’d lost a few off the rear as well. I would have loved to hear the noises coming out of it whilst he rode.
