Like Boll said, a good time was had by all. I thought I had better fill in between a few of the lines Boll missed. Spoke to the boys on the way down. Singleton, just excited, Sydney, loud and excited, Braidwood, finding their own jokes extremely funny and excited, Batemans Bay, just finishing off the remains of a carton of beer and a carton of Bundy cans. I think Mal may of had two out of the lot, so Boll and Dig had had a fair session. I think the trip down took an extra 2 hours due to Boll having prostate issues.

Day one. Too much fire trail/dirt road for me but hey that’s just me. There was some good flowing single trail in the morning which was neat. I missed Boll’s incident as he was behind me at that stage. He’s a very lucky man. The stick totally destroyed his pants and hip pads but only grazed the skin. He was a sore man, not even severe peer pressure could get him on the piss that night.

Seemed to improve on day 2. Day 2 was some really great fire trail with a hill that went basically for 30km and then down the same height in 10. If some of those contour banks were around Narrabri they would have their own names like MT Boll. Not quite so much fun when you launch off one only to be faced with large jagged exposed rock in the landing area but no offs so all good.

I was first to go off after the lead on the final stage to the deep river crossing (not the shallow one above). Anyway after a bit Marty the lead took off and left me for dead which I thought was a bit odd. Wasn’t going to go any faster though as it was a bit steep and loose. Anyway I finally got to the river and it all became clear. Hears Marty perched up on the far side with camera in hand. I stopped and waited for the signal from him on which way to go. Nothing forthcoming, so had a quick scan. Crystal clear, no boulders, didn’t look too deep so straight in whilst only one spectator. Went about two metres and holly crap, thought it was going to come over the seat. Bike started to bog down so on with the power. No place to stop when the water is more than air box high. Got to the other side, amen. Told Marty I guessed that wasn’t the ideal run and he said if I had gone downstream a couple of metres, then footpeg deep, but don’t tell anyone. Secrets safe with me. Needless to say all parties followed in my footsteps except for Boll (felt sorry for the injured) and a couple of others who had experienced earlier misfortune. I tell you what, a drz 400 can push a bigger bow wave than the titanic.

I knew Boll had a big night when I heard him ask Marty the next morning “where do you put the oil in this thing” whilst pointing to his bike. Well the jury is still out but I’m hoping it just because of a thumping headache and not the fact that he had never done it before. I must admit though when we washed his air filter on day two I could swear there was mould growing on the second layer of dust and some dinosaur footprints in the first layer.

Day 3. Had some better tight single trail. Just before we landed at Pork Chop Heffo gave us the choice. Take the road to the Chop, or go with him and some of his local mates who had joined us for day 3 to some of his hidden single trail. Anyway, was surprised to see that after the main party had departed on the road there was only me, Blue and Smithy left from the group. Suddenly became a bit nervous as I figured from looking at heffo and his mates that the pace was about to pick up. Anyway off I went determined to give it a crack and not hold anyone up too much if possible. It was the best single track of the weekend. Tight, in and out of creeks, logs, ruts, hills, it had the lot. Pity it was only 20 minutes long. Even passed a couple of blokes so felt a bit better coming into the Chop.

Came over the ridge to see Pork Chop for the first time and near shit my pants. It was one of the few locations where you can actually see the whole thing. It is big and impressive from a distance. Had a bit of trouble with some of the off cambers just getting to the base so was fairly apprehensive by this stage.

Watched a couple of the boys have a go and the guides make it look easy so it was time for my turn. Not as steep up close as I had imagined and also looked a bit grippier than I expected so I was hoping I was in with a chance. Not to be. Had four goes and only got to the top of the bottom section, maybe a 1/4 of the way up. Boll had the best dismount of the day. Going up was fine, just got as far as he could and stopped no issues. Then the ride down started. Not really sure what happened but I looked up and here was Bolls WR doing a little cartwheel down the hill quickly followed by Boll doing one of those runs where the legs are going flat out to try and catch up with the descending upper body. Unfortunately this is a little hard to control when running down a cliff so like so many others it ended with the ungraceful face plant into loose shale at the end. It was bad enough that I didn’t laugh until after he got up.

There will be more, but that’s all I got for now and sorry no photos from me.

Good to hear all went well Boony, Aaron, Kram. I was wondering how things were going whilst we were making our assualt on Pork Chop. I think the honours of telling that story need to be left to Bollocks so won’t say any more until he gets back from work.

Did they change the track at Uralla or do any track maintenance. How’d you go Aaron, I heard Nick Rummery couldn’t finish so I figured that was your chance for a trophy.

Was it a good roll up.

I gather you hadn’t been to Uralla before Boony?

Getting keener for the ride by the minute. Not making any promises about the hill though. I suppose if Boll has a crack then I will have to. Unless he makes it that is. The big rocks are scaring me a bit. It is a long way to drive (730km each way) to wreck my bike unless it is on day 3. Can’t wait to see the hill though as I’ve heard many a story about the legend.

Looks like it’s not needed now Boony, but I just got an email from Armidale club saying they are in need of sweeps.

Put me down to sweep thanks Bundy.

I would love to Boony but I’m not in charge at Uralla. I’d say you will be fine sweeping but they might have enough. I’d ring Greg Frost at Super Moto and check before you go just to be sure they need extras.

I can put you down for the Narrabri rounds if you can make it.

I know what you mean Dusty. I have to allow an extra 1/2 an hour for my bike prep so that I have time to find all the tools from my bum bag. They can be anywhere in the shed. Of course it goes without saying when the kids are asked “where’s such and such”, the response is along the lines of “can’t remember”.

A few i can think of.

    1. When towing your dragster behind the motorbike at 80km/hr do not tie rope to both bikes.
    2. bmx can handle jumps with a 20 l drum and a plank of wood
    3. bmx will snap if you upgrade to 60 l drum.
    4. if your brother is bending down in front of you when you are about to throw the biggest rock you can lift make sure you know when he plans to stand up.
    5. if your peewee 80 is flexing when you do jumps then yes the frame is completely snapped.
    6. if you corner an emu on a motorbike it will charge
    7. always give way to a mob of sheep when on a motorbike
    8. two vw bonnets welded together can just take two boys below 10 with an inch freeboard
    9. two vw bonnets welded together cannot take the rapids
    10. if tied to a sunken boat in the rapids it will drag you downstream
    11. throwing a bloke in an industrial bin can dislocate his shoulder
    12. if your mate whinges about a sore shoulder when drunk for 5 hours you should seek medical attention
    13. catching a 1000 guppies as the dam overflows and putting them in a tank with no aerator is not good for guppies.
    14. when tipping others out of a boat your gear in the boat does not float
    15. do not pull the trigger on a 243 in the carry rack behind the seat in the ute. This especially applies if all doors and windows are shut.
    16. ringing in ears will go away eventually
    17. when you need to order motorbike parts ask dad and not mum
    18. when you need money ask mum and not dad
    19. when you need some dirty work done manipulate your younger brother

and I learnt this as an adult but it applies

    20. your parents know about everything you do as a kid, they just choose to not mention some of it at the time.

No need for the shed mate. If everything’s run right, you should take pride of place in the lounge or pool room.

My imediate thought was, there would be no problem. 20 minutes late with no call I would have been on the road by then. Then I realised they were the only blokes you were riding with (or at least attempting to anyway). Riding solo is not a real good option so you were between a rock and a hard place and it sounds like it never improved. I’m sure when you get to work tomorrow they will be raving about how much funn they had and how they want to go riding with you all the time. Have fun!!

Follow TB’s advice and it turns a drawn out expeience into a piece of cake :)

We all know this is untrue. You never rode that xr far enough in one go to fall off. Too busy stopping for smoke/drink breaks (even in races) to ever go more than 100 yards. And don’t pretend the drink breaks were for water either.

I’ve got a kelly too. When purchasing I thought it was dear but now it is just good value. I even carry a spare front tube in mine.

For those interested, I think the grand plan is to gather at Bike Territory 8am Saturday morning. All levels of riding catered for. Accomodation available for Friday night as well for those travelling.

    See you there
