As a ktm owner I have had a bit of experience with starter motors (but not the circuitry). I’m assuming that yamaha are like ktm with one positive wire going to the starter and then earthed through the engine.
The funny thing is I had a yamaha, starter always worked but it used to chew through batteries, now I have a ktm and the battery always works but it chews through starter motors. This is not meant to make you laugh as this is the tech help section.
From my days back when I had a wr I seem to remember that 250’s would run without a battery but 450’s wouldn’t for some reason. At the very least the 450 would need the flat battery to still be in the circuit to kick start.
From the wiring diagrams and your testing that shows the switch is still right the problem with the starter motor going non stop has got to be in the starter relay. For some reason it is staying in the on position. Even if there is a short in the starter motor it will not get power unless the starter relay closes to let power through. Don’t ask me where the relay is or what it looks like but if you follow the wire back from the starter motor it should go straight to it. My thoughts anyway.
I’ve now got the cover off and the faces all clean. All looks good in there to the naked untrained eye. Now to put the new gasket on.
A) Do you use gasket goo or put it on dry?
Is the best procedure to put the gasket on the bike and then slide the side cover towards it or put the gasket on the side cover first then mount the whole lot.
Thanks.
Thanks for all the replies. Hadn’t thought of making my own. Now I’ve thought of it I think I will still go and buy a pre made one anyway.
Mick
Hope you didn’t wake up and say something tastes like shit only to find out they did the scans in the wrong order. They do knock you out for the reverse angle shots don’t they.
Good to hear it all went well Boony. Did they get good numbers? Was there enduroX or barrel racing on Saturday night like at North Star?

GaleyEither that or try washing the jersey before you give it to the dog. I think Cleo’s trying to tell you something.
Nickj wrote:Knighters a legendUnfortunately I think that is true. But a legend implies something that was good in the past. Don’t get me wrong I love David Knight and he can ride. His ironman of enduro movie is the best dirt bike movie I have ever seen. In my view he is the bloke who took extreme enduro to the public. Unfortunately the others have caught up and gone around him. Seems to have a lot of “issues” with his bikes now. Didn’t like BMW, now doesn’t like the 500.
I wish I could ride as well as he can on his worst day but what happened to saying the other bloke is just better than me at the moment.
Do the torpedo ones get your bike wheels off the ground. 85mm of lift only, I reckon it would be touch and go. 310mm high when down might not fit under the bike either. I would be checking before purchase. They are not so cheap if they don’t do the job or need to be modified.

Pre entry forms are now out so like Gibbit says above, get onto Col Thomas (details in first post) and he will send you the form.
You have until 16th May to get pre entries in. Can pay by cash, card or direct deposit.
All I can see is two four strokes without enough instantaneous poke to mono over the lip. By simple correlation and the fact that there are no photos it must be assumed two strokes don’t have this issue. Of course it could be as simple as people who buy two strokes are smarter and more skillfull.
Thanks for the review Mal. Wish I had of known earlier. Tekniks was selling these at the 12 hour in the $65-$85 range. Can’t remember exactly but there wasn’t much there over $85 that I can remember. Didn’t buy them because they only had kenda and I’d only heard bad things in the past. Maybe they’ve changed or maybe I’ve been misinformed but one thing is for sure. Sounds like I just let a bargain slip by. Do they call the washougal an intermediate tyre or soft.
No sign of knob disintegration at all in the photos which is good. Those rocks of murphs on his hills would round off any rear knobs I’d reckon.
As we all know when the wife says “I’m going to put it to the test eagle” you just hope she doesn’t have a knife in her hands.
Got to love a new bike. Should be run in by the time you get home too I reckon.

I have never stunk so bad after a race. My nose can’t smell much but it could smell me. My helmet was that saturated with sweat it actually used to squeeggee out every time I put my helmet on. Goggles and gloves weren’t much better.
Marty, it was on heffos land. The race is organised by heffo, his crew and the nowra dirt bike club. Although Heffo did say something about some other landholders in his speach after the race so I’m not sure if there was other land involved. I thank whoever’s land it was. The track is now there for a long time to come unless they do some work with a grader blade.
