Just found out he did the first trip in the 1970’s. Then just recently he retraced the trip when he was in his 70’s and has written another book “Dreaming of Jupiter” about how things have changed along the route. Anybody read this one?
Good to see the kids were having fun. The young bloke can certainly hold his own even without the kato. He even has the lean forward going for less wind resistance.
I must be getting old though. None of those kids looked big enough to be 8 or 9.

Going in the pairs with the bloke that owns Bike Territory (a local bike park). Hence the stickers on the bike. I think 6 hours of riding should be enough.

That $50,000,000 Goggle camera, certainly payed off that time!! I would have been happy enough to sit there all night and watch that over and over!I was just thinking. All that grass track and no spills. I find that hard to believe. Now we’ve had the glory shots I can’t wait for the carnage shots. Great photos. Thanks for sharing.

Mental note to self. Don’t catch up with Hatto until Sunday night after the race or the consequences could be dire.
Sounds good Hatto, will keep an eye out.

Did you put this in the tech forum so we have to be serious and can’t use any humour for fear of the Admin skull and cross bones. I think you would end needing to go through MNSW or similar to get the required insurances at good rates. As it is not a race then all that would be needed is a recreation licence at $20/rider. I would give Chris or Col Thomas a ring in Moree. They are going through the same thing for a trail ride at Horton in May. The other option would be talk to the boys at Dalby Moto. They organise (or at least know who does organise) a whole series of trail rides around southern QLD and North Star. My guess is you would also need some officials running the event (at least in namesake anyway) who have stewarding and clerk of the course tickets from MNSW etc. Might be different if it is a fundraiser.
I’ve only just realised (observation skills again) that I’ve now posted in the adventure riders forum. Does this mean I’ve now lost my edge or am a traitor. Not sure how I’m feeling now. Maybe it entitles me to ask for help to pick up my bike under the pretense it is too heavy to do it solo. I think I can feel my single track skills ebbing away already.
And just when I thought I’d run out of advice there is one more.
If you are not a stickler for air filter cleaning and oil changing then a 250 is not the bike for you. They are less forgiving of lack of maintenance than larger bikes. May not be a proven fact but that’s what I reckon. I hate cleaning filters and I owned a 250 but I clean my filter after every ride regardless of length/conditions. Maybe that’s why I hate it so much. I own 3 filters now so at least I’m only cleaning a large batch every 3 rides.
Action,
Don’t have that much to add except a 250 or any bike will be fine with your weight. Sounds like you’re not going to wear it out from over use. You probably won’t notice to much difference between bikes if you’re only riding occasionally. I must say I do find it slightly hard to believe that all husaberg bikes from 390 to 570 weigh the same amount (unless it’s the same motor with varying stroke length). The yamaha wr250 is a great bike and shouldn’t be overlooked. Ignore stated km’s on bike for sale and just look for signs of wear on cases and pedals. And be nice to your mother.
The main advice is that it is a buyers market at the moment. Bikes just don’t seem to be moving much from what I can see so get out there and start haggling. Good luck.
Scotty wrote:Still looks shit loads different. The one in the link has a smoother looking fairing, spoked wheels and USD forks.Man do I need to engage the brain a bit more. I do remember thinking it looked different but I just put it down to less plastics or something. I need to upgrade the observation skills when you don’t even notice the forks are totally different.

I would have thought it had been going much longer than almost 4 years. Was it functioning under a different name before then? I gather it was started by TB? Was there others?
Or is it shrouded in mystery like the ghost who walks never to be revealed. Has there been people suiting up to be TB from father to son for generations?
Thanks

How many cc is it. I agree on the weight. I reckon the BMW 800 is on the limit weight wise for off road riding at 240 ish. I reckon it looks good just too heavy.
Had a very quick look at my brakes. Checked the banjo bolts and the bottom one tightened up a bit and it looked like there was a fluid leak on the caliper somewhere. Took the cap off the reservoir and not a drop of fluid in there. There is definitely no fluid leaking out around the piston near the lever. Will put the bike up on the stand and check the caliper out more thoroughly tonight. I’ve only done the 5 minute check in the middle of my lunch hour so far.
I did look at the fluid window whilst out riding but I thought it was full. Obviously it was dead empty.
Thanks everybody.
I will bleed it tonight and see how it goes.
You were close Tisco. 09 300.
