Thanks everyone, all good advice and the new ACR unit looks the good. One question Mark, does it have an “OK” feature so family know where you are or is it rescue specific?
cheers
ProttyThanks mate, good to know about the batteries. The Gen 3 apparently has a USB power input so I need to look into wether it has a battery source other than AAA.
RMX450 demo bike has landed! Anyone interested in test riding, please get in touch with the team at Mud N Tar.
ProttyOne things for sure there are some good bikes on the market, don’t forget the new Sherco 450 that arrives next month, we just might be demo’ing one of those babies too!!!
Yes TB, Protty here, thanks for the call up!
Far be it from me to bag another brand but comparing a WR250 to a RMX450Z?? Well you just can’t, remember bikes are like rifles and fishing rods, there is no perfect one for all occasions, at some stage it becomes a compromise! It’s clear that some blokes are willing to compromise a lot, that’s why there are KTM riders out there.. sorry had to be said.
Ok the new RMX450Z, it’s not just a MX version with compliance so for anyone who has tried to tame a late model moto they are not the same motor. Mr Zuki has modified the inlet tract and dropped a different cam into it to “enhance low and mid range power” and the gearbox carries wider ratios.
The RMX450 that I attempted to race last year was way to stiff in the suspension and after the first half hour of a cross country I was lucky to stay on the thing for any length of time because of how hard the power was delivered. I conceded defeat after Bulladelah and swapped back to a 250 for the rest of the year. This new bike is not just “same dog, different tail”, it will be worth having a look at.
It just so happens we have a demo bike on order so if anyone is keen give me a call at Mud n Tar. The bikes should be here in the next couple of weeks.
Cheers
ProttyWe are good for tanks thanks, have two in the shed. Sorry to hear about the bike.
Thanks TB, will do. For sure Toes. we look like leaving around the 26th.
Hey mate, express snail mail doesn’t work here in Wauchope no matter what we pay. Are you easy to get to in Newcastle on the way through Saturday morning?
Hey mate, any chance you might be going on the Bridge to Bridge ride? I need a mount for an eTrex… on the off chance.
ProttyThe customer is always right, right? All good mate, he was just singing it’s praises and I’d not seen one. I’m a firm believer that you can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear, not that the mighty DR650 is a sows ear by any means but you get my drift. I must be getting old, listen to me defending a DR650…
cheers mate, great story too, I’ve often wondered how wife swapping works out in the end. I swapped mine years ago and will now live happily ever after.
ProttyAppreciate the response Nick, the wife swapping part was an interesting touch too.
Mate, all you need to have said was don’t touch em with a preverbal barge pole and I’d have taken your word for it…I’ll let the customer down gently next time he’s in.
cheers
ProttyTo answer the original question, YES! They are performing a traffic stop because under the Act you’re riding a motor vehicle. Why not stop and save them having to do it for you?
There is a test that any cop applies the moment he/she has to deal with anyone, it’s very simple and it’s taught at the academy, it’s called “the attitude test”. If you have got yours wrong you’re in for a hard time.
Boys in blue don’t go looking for grief, they all get their fair share so to risk personal injury getting someone to stop is not something they’d be in a hurry to do, let alone the paperwork if it all goes south. Do the right thing and there’s no grief.
I’d hate to be a bike fitting the same description in the same area in the coming weeks, fair chance they will be on the “hit list”, and yes that exists too.
Remember the “attitude test”, trust me.
Appreciate everyones input and after talking with TB I see where he’s coming from. Thing is I have four GPS’s at the moment, and the idea of buying a 5th was not spinning my wheels. Turns out the eTrex I’ve had since 97 will get me through until I decide if starring at a screen while riding is for me.
The phone was something I thought may have worked, for the reasons put forward obviously not.
cheers fellas and thanks for the call TB.Hey Ted, didn’t realise it was yours. She has had a little work since but nothing major, it dropped it’s top ring and tried to ram half of it out through the side of the pot so it now sports a fresh piston etc and the young fella found the limits of the suspension pretty quickly so it’s been redone.
2015 will see a 250 stroker thats registrable coming from Honda so here’s hoping Suzuki do the same.
We are actually hatching a plan for him to ride our thing at a fairly big event later in the year and it just might raise a few eyebrows when he turns up on the old gigger, we’ll keep you posted.
cheers mate
ProttyHail the King, yes the stable is full now with five yellow ones, going to be a busy year.
Hope you’re feeling better too.
