Huh, just checked the VIN on my XR and it turns out it isn’t an ’89 model like I thought,,,,,,, it’s a ’96 model.
I have no idea why, (other then it is 7 years younger then I thought), but this makes me happy.
Cheers

At this stage just the kickstart, God knows what I will find once I start pulling it apart though :cheer:
If you’d like to part with it then just let me know how much and I’ll get it sorted?
I do know that the front and rear wheels have to come off and I need to get them re-laced. Missing a shit load of spokes between them. Hoping I can find somewhere in Bathurst that does it.

Hehe. Many Thanks TrailBoss. The re-build on the old girl starts tomorrow. Very keen to get her back into fighting trim.

Yep, that was us at the Birthday Party doing the jousting. I was on foot for that show doing the (bad) commentary due to a damaged tendon in my arm which has put me out of action til who knows when. We travel all over the place doing those shows. Not long back from Newcastle and next week is our big competitve tournament in Lithgow.
Due to the arm injury I haven’t had much time on the bikes for the last few months.
The pilot look is deliberate. The cafe racer style draws heavily from the Spitfire pilots of WW2.

Quote:Hey welcome Rod do you have any more pics of the cx500 are they a shaft drive set up like a motor guzi?Certainly do. It is a shaft drive. I liked the look of it because it did have that Guzzi look to it. The seat section is the next thing to be changed.
Hi Mal, always up for a ride. Might take me a while to get the XR tidied up and registered though. At the moment I have been using the (unregistered) Chinese bike,,,,, only on our property of course
Been practising my wheelies on it, well, trying to get my confidence back to wheelie. Found the XR much, much easier to get up.
Still not very good, though I have no problem doing a wheelie on my horse.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
I am out at Yetholme near Bathurst. On 87 acres that backs into the Sunny Corner Forest. So lots of lovely dirtbike riding straight out my back gate. I was watching some of the A4DE on Saturday from my front gate.
Well spotted. It is an ’83 Honda CX500. I have done a bit of work to it to turn it into a Cafe Racer style bike. The old girl is just a joy to ride fast.
The XR was an eye opener this morning. I had a very quick ride on her and lots of power there. I am planning to strip it down in late May and rebuild her. Re-do the frame, engine etc. Really give her a good tidy up,,,,,,,, and then get her all dirty again.
Thanks Micknmeld, I am looking for a new kickstart lever and knuckle if you know where I can find one? Mine broke this morning right through the knuckle.
Might see some of you out this way in the forest.
Cheers
