I heard you were helping set up those two 2012 WR’s for the APC ralley. I’ll be keenly following this too.
Who is gonna do their seats up too cause I can’t imagine doing 7500km swimming around on a Air Hawk. Love them on road but they are a bit weird offroad to come to terms with.
I found this section of wiring loom likes to rub shoulders too. After 800km it was through the tape and exposed the wires..
I used Nylon gas pipe to shield them.Maybe a brake snake will cure the cause
EAGLE`02 wrote::pinch: That sux batIS there no hope of the software re uploading from the Garmin site????
When I update my Garmin software it does (mine is an older Map76)Shouldn`t mater a brass razoo where you bought it really. It should have to be registered with Garmin anyway for the software & mapping updates and should have warranty from new too (also from Garmin)
I assume your unit had the registration paperwork and serial numbers etc etc ?????
Yeah I registered it straight away.
The problem now is the PC won’t see the GPS any more so it can’t update. Garmin said its dead and they can’t fix it.
I might get lucky with them but we’ll see in a few days.I’ve contacted the dude I bought it from so maybe he can help out. The dodgy bit is that Garmin already have had some issue with stuff sold by him.
I may get lucky but I don’t know yet.I really rely on GPS too it’s got me out of some really tight spots on my own over the years.
Magellan XL was my favourite… it went West when I was going North though
I have a Garmin Dakota 20 that I bought off Ebay apparently Brand new. After a web update last week the unit would no longer boot up.. System Software Missing.
I contacted garmin and they won’t warrant the item if bought from an online auction site. The Garmin guy I spoke with asked if I’d bought it from GPS R US and guess what… somethings are just not to be trusted for the sake of saving a few shekels..
G’day mate hope to catch you on a trail sometime too…
Intermediate rider you say on a KTM 525.. thats the spiritAaron wrote:Well this thread has made interesting reading. Hey Cr0wI like the look of your bike. Are you running a TM Designs plastic/ nylon (or whatever they are made of) chain guard thingamy bit. What are they like I like the look of them. I need a new chain slide for my YZ and was thinking of getting a complete set.
Just went and read the list on the first page so sorry now i know it is a TM but the Question still stands. :blush:The TM designworks stuff is great and very hard wearing. Just spinning your back wheelup on a stand you can see how smooth it runs. Looks good too.
You can buy direct from them online and save about $110 delivered to your door over the selling price here for a full kit.. and they send it pronto.
They also make a rear disc guard too that is light and really tough also.

Then All`s GoodHope to see you out on the trails on it one day mate
Yeah its a pretty good bike now.. thanks mate
Yeah ride on brothers.. never forget the cost to others for our freedom.
My Grandfather had a big role in the war that I’ve only learned of recently after him passing last year. He always carried a great burden of the war and had many secrets that he could never share. He wrote a poem to my Grandmother when they met in England just before WW2 broke out.
Ten little German boys yodelling on the Rhine
One went flat and sank then there were nine.Nine little German boys strolling through a gate
A bull came out and chased one then there were eightEight little German boys looking up to heaven
One thought he’d like it there then were sevenSeven little German boys thought of many tricks
One thought a bit too much then there were sixSix little German boys cheered to be alive
When Hitler came and caught one, leaving only fiveFive little German boys a fish bone they did gnaw
When one pushed it down his throat, then there were fourFour little German boys laughed and cried with glee
One had done the goose step wrong leaving only threeThree little German boys swearing at a Jew
He turned around and shot one then there were twoTwo little German boys weighing half a ton
One ate alot too much then there was oneOne little German boy looking for some fun
he sailed away across the sea and then there was none.sb_250y wrote:Cr0w3 wrote:The rear Safari Tank is an awesome design, unfortunately the finishing & fit is below average. the Tank will not just bolt up & the way mine fits there is no way a rear tank can be run with Steg Pegz, more importantly get air filter access.
You’ve got it installed wrong then because it does fit and not just on my bike.. in mind also being able to tear it all off on the trail and reinstall it again. 5 minutes all off and 5 minutes all back on. The air filter access is a big secret though but takes only 30 seconds… I’ll give you a hint mate. The left lower sub frame bolt if running StegPegz
From what I can see in the photo the tank was just sitting there with no fuel lines installed. where is the second tap located, also shows a large gap between air box door & tank this should be a neat fit.
Mate you got me I just took a photo of it all on the bike before the rear tank was plumbed in but if you had one of these tanks then you would already know about the gap being from the removed left side plate cover and you could expect the tap being at the bottom of the tank???!!!
The brake line has more chance of being taken out on the outside than the inside, I guess thats why Yamaha designed it the way they did, the brake line & wheel are at a set distance, they will never come together, although the bush, rocks, trees are unknowns & will rip it out.
have you ripped off your speedo cable yet? yamaha design too..
I’m getting impression you don’t have much good to say there mate but if you want some help making your shit fit then ask nicely… but don’t tell me how mine won’t work because it already does and I don’t need to rely on help with tools on the trail let alone in the shed. I do it myself, but my avatar won’t tell you that one.
Lefty wrote:Hey there Crow,
I am not trying to be a smart arse but the front brake line usually runs inside the fork leg. Actually on a 2002 – 2003WR (which I owned) actually ran through a channel under the fork leg back up to the caliper.Cheers,
LeftyI looked running inside the fork leg but the tyres were so close to the line it worried me so I run outside. Maybe i’ll pull it down and re asses the situation for a second take.
sb_250y wrote:Cr0w3 wrote:A couple of questions from looking at the photo.
How do you run Steg Pegz with the rear tank?
Have you still got the original ADR tail piece fitted that holds the number plate & indicators?
How does the fuel line run from the rear tank to the Carby?
Why does the front brake hose run around the outside of the fork leg?
the steg pegz bolt on as normal
yes the OEM rear number plate hanger is there.. in the photo.
fuel line from rear tank goes to a T junction meeting the front tank and flowing to the cabie insitu. By turning on both taps F&R the fuel will self level both tanks to run a lower centre of gravity. Or I can just run the rear dry first but I like a balanced feel which is working well so far..
Front Brake line will compete with full knobby tyres.. especially Motoz Tractionator’s if run inside fork leg…
If you have any suggestions to improve my setup feel free to let me know what you reckon. I appreciate the support from experienced racers who know their way around setting up a bike better than others less able.
regards Adam
I wondered what could have done that when I read that article.
Bloody good read too I wish I’d known you guys were stirring up the dust round here. It sounded like my kind of fun. Stirring up the journo’s is more than fun in itself too.Trailboss wrote:Cr0w3 wrote:I got it through Glen Hoffman from http://www.dirtbike.com.au for about 900 bucks and still needs disc and sprocket. The talon cush drives aren’t as good as Hahn I found out.Check your pockets when you leave there and make sure you still have your shoes and socks
Haha yeah reckon. I hunted about the Safari community for a second hand one for quite a while but they were all around 700-800 bucks at the right price too. The cheapest one was $600 from a really nice bloke in Sydney but his wheels were missing in action somewhere in SA still on loan?!. Though I was lucky enough to score a free rear 5litre tank from him… long story but like I said really nice bloke…
Ollie wrote:Gyday mike. As I now dont have a WR I was only going off what others have saidI know standard the economy was only about 70KM’s to a tank. I was lead to believe that this jetting was designed to liven it up as well as improve the mileage. I reckon the WR set up like Crow has it now is a good thing especially with the Cush drive Hub.
Nice ride mate.
Ollie
Thanks mate.
I don’t know that I’ve ridden with any unrestricted WR with that bad fuel economy even doing nothing but single line.I’ll admit I don’t spend hours fiddling to achieve better economy because it all works well already but 70km is 2T range.
One point to fuel economy that can’t be quoted in a setup is the rider and his riding style. You don’t need to be at full noise to be fast. I try to get a good flow up without the hype of sounding flat out, and I find it’s a discipline to keep up when the heat is on riding against someone else but it slows my head space down and I make less mistakes when pushing harder and save fuel.
