Just had a bit of a yarn to our fearless leader!
They went through to Menindee this arvo. They’re camping tonight.
TB says the Tenere is going really well…..it powers out of corners beautifully, it does the miles effortlessly, it’s handling like a train on rails…….however,
when it senses sand……it wants to take its’ bat and ball and go home!!!!!
So, he’s going to start to play with it a little. Try a few changes to try and get it to handle in the sand. The damper is not solving the problem like it usually does.
He’ll try moving the forks, play with tyre pressure, weight distrib. etc etc.Everyone is going well, no big dramas at present.
They’ll push on to Yunta tomorrow and then turn North up the track until mid arvo and find a camping spot!
Don’t forget to check the tracker through the day to see how they’re travelling……a great idea those things. (you could see today when they lost time a 2 or 3 places…..and then when communication allows, we find out that sure enough….Bollocks had a flat, TB/ Nick had offs and they went to Ivanhoe hosp.)
Til the next update

Agree………………
with Rocket!!!
That is gold!!
just quietly…….they’re a beautiful machine. It may be a little heavy, but I gotta say, value for money and enjoyment wise…….I can’t think of another bike that would tick as many boxes as they do for me!
IMO

We often ride with other families and I am often the sweep and parking the xr on the side of the hill or in the mud is hard on the stand (it broke again last wwekend). So I guess I’m looking for the elusive torquey, light, electric start, low maintenance, cheap bike, suggestions please.
Thanks, AndrewI’m with the others that say ………….KLX450
You have ridden your mates DRZ400, what’d you think?….I reckon they’re the “ducks guts” when it comes to value for your money spent. Their reliability is second to none (for an electric start machine), engine performance is good and they can be set up to handle really well. (just quietly, I reckon they would do the majority of riders! Most wouldn’t be able to ride a well set up DRZ to its’ full potential..IMO)
However, the KLX is alot lighter and delivers more torque.
So, I guess it ticks most of your boxes.

(just my opinion having ridden both)Surely it’s not due yet Mal, anyway 300 Husky pistons aren’t that heavy, are they?
Good on ya wazzup. Welcome to the site.
Good machine that one you’ve got! Can’t kill ’em with a stick (or a multiple end for end for end for ender!) They’ll go forever if you change the oil regularly and keep the air filter clean each ride.Hope we’ll see you out and about one day. Keep visiting the site regularly, I’m sure there’ll be a ride that interests you in the very near future.

I’m with TB.
Engineers design engine components to work within expected temperature ranges. Their known rates of expansion are taken into account when clearance tolerances are calculated.
The above mentioned coolant replacement might stop boiling of the cooling system, but I reckon a aluminium piston would pick-up/ seize in a cast iron/ steel bore well before 190 degrees Celcius!

Had a terrific time yesterday.
I think the newbies that hadn’t met TB and me before were wondering what the hell they’d rocked up to…..when they drove in and saw me standing up on a bench next to the fire……….in my reggies….with TB bent over down at knee level…..doing the initial customising of my new knee braces!!! Sorry fellas.
(thanks to Suttos and TB for arranging them at a great price – Jay is tremendous…follows up and does what he says he’ll do!)Anyway,
Owl02 cooked some breaky for us….what a great start!
It was great to have so many first timers along. GJ400 on his DRZ400 that has never been off-road (Owl02’s looked just as factory new), Factory Phil on one of….if not the first 2011 KTM 450’s, Merv on his KLX250, Host Rob on his XR650, Dave on his KTM525.
TB saw to it that we had a heap of different types of terrain and I’m sure that there were times when the newbies were cursing him in that rutted out, root strewen Pine single! But there wasn’t too much of that (rocket would have loved it!). There was some excellent twin, slippery uphills, some fire trailers etc.
A good mix saw us cover almost 100km’s over about 3.5hrs of actual riding. A beaut lunch at Hampton pub was had, together with some chin waging, some piss taking (especially Factory Phil and TB).Then back to Robs to pack up and ‘debrief’
I loved taking out some new members with TB and showing them what you can do if you put in a little effort, get out of your comfort zone and try something new (joining a website etc). They all were top blokes and seemed to have enjoyed getting out and doing something different in a relatively safe experienced environment (thanks to TB)
Well Done all.

PS. A good couple of offs were had….crackers, without too much damage. Heal quick boys and bikes.
PPS. See…..I told you all……..if I stay away from Hampton Pub on Saturday night, the Dragons will win!!!
(now they’ll only choke in the Grand Final!!)PPPS. THanks Rob for initiating this ride and letting us all meet at your ‘Ponderosa Ranch’ – Rippa of a set up!!
Great write up and videos Menace!! We got to experience a fair bit of what you all went through. The area seems to have so much variety.
I look forward to heading up that way ‘down the track’.
As a result of reading through Menaces’ reports……I’d like to forward the motion that:
Eagles sign on be changed to……….DIRTY BIRD
Those in favour………………….?
Crash
I see the front runners must have taken some wrong turns or got lost…..because now Matt Fish on his KTM is over half an hour in front of Ben Grabham and nearly an hour in front of Smith and Faggotter after the midddle stage for today.
This info is provisional….penalties and the final stage results could change all this….so tomorrow should reveal a whole new order….very interesting.
Just goes to show……read your mapping, back yourself and don’t just follow!
Crash
PS. GO THE XR’s…still going strong!!!!
Definately be there early Saturday Morn.
As much as I’d like to stay on Saturday night…………..I can’t allow myself to!!
You see….5 years ago, to this very weekend…..TB, me and a few others did a ride from near Goodman ford (near Wombeyan Caves) to Hampton Pub for the night (there’s actually a few very good stories about that trip)….but I’ll leave that until our next ‘bench racing session’
ANYWAY,
what I’m getting to is……That Saturday night, 2005, was when the Tigers smashed the Dragons and went on to win the Grand Final!!!!
So…….as you can see, logic and superstition dictate that……there is NO WAY I can be ANYWHERE NEAR the Hampton Pub THIS Saturday night!
Crash
Su## meoff ya cranky poor excuse for a pornstar!!!
Hey XR650Rob,
I see you finally picked up the “Big girl”! Bet you can’t wait to let it have its’ head through the trees on Saturday.
Crash
ps. Maybe one of the moderators could put a list together of who said they might go on the weekend. Might be some late interest or withdrawls.
Hope you were spoilt rotten today Rocket! I’m sure the boss would have given you half a day off,,,,now your gettin’ so old n all!!!!
Enjoy the rest of the evening.
CrashSeeming as you want to deal in facts…………the last time I crashed……….was, at Condobolin at Easter (and it may have been more than once, but don’t tell anyone) Before then……..was on your ‘pre shoulder operation’ ride last year in the pines at Orange (that was a cracker too!)
I do enjoy having a bit of a go, so I guess due to the fact I lack natural ability, I’m gunna come unstuck regularly! But hey……………………………..It usually keeps people around me smiling. 😆
