You’ve got 20 riders gunnin’ for ya Boony! We all want that carton from Menace (The Vise Roy of Vic). I’m included in that 20…….I’ve just gotta work out how to mount my new rear tyre to the back of the 650…..You’ll need a bobcat to get the mud off you when I finish…Not to mention after everyone else finshes with ya!!!

Some people just sit on the lounge eatin’ crap, whinging and complaining about their lives. Some say conservative stuff like “Don’t bite off more than you can chew” AND THEN there are some who bite off a whole freakin’ mouthful, grab another two hands full and then chew like hell!!!

We was chewin’ like hell all weekend!

What an experience! A terrific ride, the only thing missing was swamp and snow! TB will try and fix that for next time…….because I’m sure there’ll be a next time.

It’s all been said, but to travel from next to the F3 on the NSW central coast at Dora Creek to Sunny corner near Bathurst, then back to Lithgow in a day with only approx. 40 k’s of blacktop in it, in a word…MAMMOTH.

We had fire trails, rocks, hard solid ruts, twin trail, soft sand ruts, single trail, rocks, sharp puddles (ask TB), tar, sand, rocks, creeks, mud, snotty downhills, shitty uphills, rocks, 1st gear crawling, top gear (1*#km/ph) stuff…..something for everyone.

Towards the end of day one, whilst the boys were repairing their flat tyres on our way to Dark corner, TB and I had a chance to pause and reflect on what we had all achieved so far that day……we looked at each other…….and then those poignant words of Dirty Harry boomed through both our Bluetooth headsets “Mans’ gotta know his limitations” It was at that point we thought that if we were to push on as planned (Sofala, Hillend then Bathurst) we would be arriving well after dark as totally spent units. That would have made day 2 far too much. So, deciding “discretion being the better part of valour” TB suggested we muck around at Sunny corner for a bit and then find our way back to Lithgow for the night.
This decision ‘made’ the trip. It meant that the 2nd day was not as draining. With fewer kilometers to cover, we would then have time up our sleeve to explore different options for future rides and to allow for the inevitable fatigue.

Day 2 was just as good, we found a great trail (wider than single narrower than twin) that ran for about 30k’s – brilliant.

After our 2nd last stop at the Halfway House, TB soon entered ‘the zone’ through Yengo on the way to ‘Laguna Wine Bar’. You know when the Road runner turns around to the Coyote, jumps in the air, says meep meep…….then swoosh, pow off he goes into the distance…that was TB. He deserved his quiet time to cut loose without any anchors.

I know it sounds like a THANK FEST, but it’s good manners and the right thing to do (sorry if you’ve already read the same thing 20 times)Bad luck.

Thanks Kylie and Salina – the ride wouldn’t have been as enjoyable without you two always being there. Always smiling, upbeat and ready to change plans when necessary. Nothin was a problem. Gold medal backup crew. Top shelf.

Thanks TB, organizer and shit stirrer extraordinaire – you da man.

Boulder, the man is building a legend without even trying. Thanks mate.

Jeffro (IT..cousin that is) Solid performer, plodder, courteous, helpful, just a top Bull to have in your crew. Thanks mate.

DanD….had more sh$% put on him than a Port-a-loo pump out truck…..and just kept smiling, joking and coming back for more. A great bloke. Obviously enjoying his new bike, although I think he doesn’t appear to have a lot of confidence in his front wheel…..because he always seems to have it off the ground..so there’s no weight on it…what’s going there Dan?

Thanks to Mal5.1 and Donna for making the effort to come and see us on Saturday night. Quality people.

That’s it! 430ish k’s one day, 350ish the next – with almost every type of terrain on this continent. No whingers, No heroes, Great company, Really testing yourself without going too far, 3 punctures, 1 pair lost sunnies/ hair band, Nature at its most beautiful, Hot shower heaven, Excellent meal and rumbos, Top nights rest, new tracks found. Bring on Nundle.
    Thanks everyone

    Man I love the fiddy
Next time when filming TB, I’ll try tieing a rope to his fiddy, it’ll be the only way I could stay with him.

    Jeffro,
Make sure you run a little inline filter when you fit your bum tank. You won’t have your main tank tap filter keeping the any s#%t out of your carby. I found out the hard way once and lost a heap of time with a stuck open needle/ seat at the Condo 750 a few years ago.

Spokes (they’re just spares I use to carry around when I had a 400, just in case)

    LC,

I have x3 rears and x2 fronts for a XR400. If that’s not enough, Chivo’s at South Granville can make them up in no time flat, and usually at a good price. Tell them Scott at Battyes Bikes said to give them a ring if you go down that route.

    Mick,

Can you see what Hoffman was on about when he said to TB (as he picked his new XR650R), “Now your dancin’ with the big girls!”?

That sort of ‘mud trenching’ is exactly what was done down in ‘Limeburners’ (the track we couldn’t go down on the Caves ride) It was all locked up because of these same sort of 4×4 idiots. Ruins it for all of us.

Bloody Tiny…He hit the poor tree that hard it split in two! Now if I can just push it back together, the rangers won’t know we were here!

Good on ya Chicken, I was waiting for someone to say something like that!

Chad Billet made it another win for the CRF’s in the 250cc to 450cc 4 stroke class.

Wonka won the 40 to 44 year olds class.

Jason Hill didn’t start today (again).

Caleb Auricht must have had an off or had a machine failure after the 2nd checkpoint today!

And most importantly, I see the one and only XR650 entrant is bringing it home (Bruce Broad from Condo). He started today in 8th place in his 45 years and older class! Yeehaa.
