Hey mud monster

If u need a hand with ur Adv set up lefty ill hook u up, got these Katos sorted handled like a dream, with all my kit and all
Well if its what the crowd wants, i guess i better not dissapoing.
Let me just say, this trip was totally unplanned and the stay over not really expected but oh well what the hey.Well it all started like the Krustinator said at casa de TB, learning the fine art of fitting a tyre, lol and not pinching the tube  .Well the tube was pinched, and a qucik trip to Sutto’s we were back on track fitting the new pirelle tyre (no intentions of so much tar but oh well). And the words ride to the caves and are you keen were said.
I was already in the you know what with the missus so oh well must buy some snorkel extentions. Raced home to fit the tyre and my adventure gear  and headed out to the oaks.
With the new rubber on i slowed up krusty abit and putted along on the tar, untill TB found some tracks beside the road.
Well i had alot of fun on the tighter stuff, as you would expect. But TB got off the might Tenere and walked over to me, i was a little lost untill he ushered me off and we switched(i reacon he might deny that). Well again i fell in love with the Tenere as i went for a run earlier in the week and was hooked then. A quick pit stop for fuel and lunch then a little more tar.
After loosing sight of TB and cruising with Krusty we finally saw some glourious dirt. The road on the way to caves was pretty skatie(if thats a word), and as this was not my first time on the road but the first time on a bike so i was taking it easy round the blind corners but having fun none the less (cause it was dirt). Without incident but a few deap breath moments, we pulled up on a fire trail. And i was pumped to hit it. It was a fast open, 4 and 5th in sections, sweeping fire trail of glory. We turned left onto some more fire trail and it was much the same untill a few bigger hills which fire out some sweet tunes from the akro(who needs an ipod). It slowed up a few times with some great hair pins and a few wood ducks as TB says.
Well we arrived to a valley full of bikes, people, tents, fires, but only 3 old bull’s. After a quick chat and the tought of head on’s in the dark, we found camp Old bull half way up a hill, and we set up.
Well it was a massive job unpacking, as the ocky starp was on tight but after that i was done. Thats it, i did not expect to stay overnight but these things happen. I donated tarp from Krust and the ground sheet from TBs tent and i had my set up done. We went down to socialise and check out some rides. Plenty of Kato’s, A BMW or 5, old and new, a couple of trailer towing bikes and a road bike with road tyres. .
It was a good night, given it was unplanned and we were sobber. Plenty of laughs, two bloody loud bombs set off (fricken hill billys), a couple of trips up the hill for some phone range and a few hours sleep.
We woke up, packed up, geared up and after abit to get the mighty Tenere cranking, we were off.
The next sections of the fire trails we rode in on, was awsome. We rode at a cracking pace (well i thought so any way), flicked over to reserve’s as we hit the road to the caves, had plenty of fun trying to keep a good pace but siding with caution. TB waved me by so when i ran out fuel it would save time not doubling back.
The thirsty Kato made it most of the way out, and to the place where TB later informed us was used as the old bull parking area for a birthday ride. I pulled up and waited………..And waited…….And TB showed…… And it turned out Krusty had a woops. And when he turned up he yelled out “Krusty had a party with the ground” (or something like that my american is a little rusty). .
With the help of the Super tanker, we refueled with a V can, and head off. Within 2-3 Minutes i was back on reserves and 5 more i was pulled up again. A desperate attempt to get all of the fuel out of the tank which lasted about 5 more minutes and we stop 7 k’s short of mittagong. Abit more abuse from TB, a laugh or 2 with Krusty and we halled arse back into town.
A sight for sore eye’s we came across a servo and blew past it?????????
TB wanted to stop near the bakery so we kept going. And we made it. Some fuel, a drink, a pie, and a chat with TB’s man crush Steve crombie, we got going.
A few more Singles and a few wack to TB’s leftside peg, we crusied back to Sydney and we went our ways at the Oaks.
I want to say a massive thanks to TB and Krusty for your help and tarps, I had a blast, would do it again tomorrow.
Adventure riding is awsome i cant wait to buy a more appropriate bike to do it on. And its on the cards, TB and me have a had a few chats about it.
Thanks guys
Dejay Kwacka(hardcore)  😆 😆How awsome were the hellies around the segways….. Must be a local from C’town
Top ride report King as always!!!!
Hey Chris, can u put one on order for me thanks mate.
Dejay
Looks great man, loads of chrome and looks sensational…..
Well we hit the singles again, and had load more fun. We ended up on the edge of the forrest on a twin trail, which we head along and looped back onto the track we entered on.
The twin track was a load of fun, plenty of variety, with uphills, fast lefts and rights. We followed this untill we hit the tarmac for a 15 minute transport section. We hit dirt again and followed the track for a K or so untill the track deteriorated and we hit the pines again. I said to myself bloody hell, as all i could see was trees and logs down and no clear cut way around them. If this was the start of the day i reacon i might have hit the deck as me and log crossing are still very new, but with some coaching throughout the day and alot of practice i was keen to get to the other side and no too worried about the inbetween.
We hit the forrest dodging half a dozen or so downed large trees and plenty of logs. I lost sight of TB and idlejet and had Krusty and chris chomping at the bit to get out the otherside, so i tried my best to see the path the boys took. Lucky the new tire from TB and the 650 led the rest of the way out into the swamp.
We pulled up with grins ear to ear, in what resembled the entrence to camp Crystal lake(friday the 13th). A burnt out car, a mud pit that had been rutted out and dug up by what could only be monster trucks, And a swamp/lake. We eat lunch, had plenty of laughs and got back into it.
More twin trails and hills. We came across this one hill which TB and idlejet had made their way up and were watching from the top, the carnage that followed. It was Krusty first, but he got stuck about half way and went down. Chris went to aid while i watched and tried not to over think things as TB had given me some advice in the car on the way.
Krusty turned his bike and head for another shot, so while he gathered his breath, i had crack.
I fired up the Kato and bounced my way most of the way up the hill.(and for everyone that has commented on the video’s, i will endevour to stand up more, thanks guys). I got stuck 3/4 of the way up and TB was yelling out to turn around but i had faith in the Recluse to lift me out of the spot i was stuck in and power on. As it happens it did and i eventually made it to the cheer of the boys at the top, which was tops.
After everyone was at the top, we headed off again and rode a mixture of twin and single stuff untill TB found an interesting looking single that headed into the scrub. So we took it.
As we started out i was thinking to myself, this looks great. But it turns out that thought came too soon. Very quickly things went south and my limits were pushed and then run over. I was out of my league and hangin on. But lovin every turn.
It was a tight, almost overgrown single in aussie bush, with rocks that ranged from the size of a pebble to the size of my rear sproket. The trail went uphill with deep ruts that i tried to keep out of but slipped in a few times, rocks littered everywhere and trees down all over the place. The track continued on uphill and as quick as i could grab 3rd it started to go down hill, literally. The down hill went on for a while and with some slow sections, i found the Recluse a little bit tricky to get use to, but managed.
We stopped a few times to regroup and kept at it. We came across TB on the otherside of a dry creek crossing with a tree down in the way, then a slight hill climb.
I stumbled at first and almost lost my balance but managed to hold it up and cross the log, and with that momentom hit the hill.
Everyone made it over without any big dramas and we continued on. Well after i while things improved slightly but like all good things that had to end. And it did abruptly, again with TB mounted on the side of a hill, camera in hand.
Well this one was a good one, three or four different was up, and not one i liked as an option but oh well such is life.
I hit the hill and made it half way but stopped. This time i had to bite the bullet and turn around because this one was steep.
Everyone else made their way to the top and thus i had my second crack. I made it past where i stopped but only just and stopped most of the way up the hill. After an almost drop, and a crap atempt at lifting off, once again the Kato hit the deck.
After a few big ones and a chat with the camera, i finished off the hill.
The trail continued on in much the same fashion, coming to a pretty awsome step up, about knee high, maybe a bit higher, which i made it up, With a bit of wheel spin.
We found our way at the end of the trail and back on some twin track, and as much as i enjoyed conquering everything thrown at me, i was somewhat releaved as was everyone else. We stopped for out last breather and chat and hit the twin track. This was a great trail, fast, open, running beside a river in spots. We all opened up and had some fun.
With directions from a frightened but calm lady walking her dog, we found the way out and headed back to the cars.
A great way to finish the day, a cruise in 6th gear occasionally giving the thorttle a squirt to admire the sound of the akro, changing over to reserves around the corner from the cars i was overall happy with the Kato and the day.
A quick pack up, chat and headed off. After a short stint to Bathurst, a stop off at the trusty bottlo and plenty more laughs, we pulled up at Sunny corner to storys of the day and the horrible news of axle having to be towed back(we shall not speak of by what, except it was a four banger). A chain change and a few more beers on TB’s part we headed back to Sydney with a Suzuki new to the trailer and me at the helm. Thanks to TB, for leading a very memorable ride. I’ve never had as much fun as i did saturday. Thanks to everyone for your words of wisdom and encouragement throughout the day.
And Krusty, check ur break light. :silly:
Untill next time.
Dejay Kwacka
Not too familiar with them but most rods have brass little ends(piston pin bearing).
Good luck with it.There’s always enough 2 strokes, your right about the Katos
Well it all started Friday arvo, when i dropped my bike off at TB’s after Sutto’s weaved there magic with it.
Having a chat about what to expect (being this was my first OBT ride and about my 3rd or 4th time in the bush) i quickly went from being excited and anxious, to down right nervous.
Loaded up Saturday morning and with TB at the wheel it was a quick drive to Orange with plenty of laughs and just a smidge of road rage. Arrived to a crisp Orange morning and clear skies so we loaded up and headed out looking for some new trails.
A short tar transport to some twin trails which lasted a few K’s and then into some single’s in some aussie bush. Which included some over grown ruts a couple of dried out creek crossings and some rutted out/washed out twin trails.
Some more open, flowing twin stuff, then the fun started…. :woohoo:
Like Krusty mentioned some tight, twisting, off camber, uphill, downhill, 180 dergree turns meters apart from the trail just riden, with plenty of logs and branches (including the one i didn’t move quick enough for and got stuck in my helmet  no damage). Plenty of rear brake and the glourious recluse, this tight stuff was a bucket(not the word i used yesturday) load of fun.
We pulled up for a breather and quick bite when we were interupted by a passing mountain biker enjoying the morning air and soon the sound of the DR and chris’s kato hitting the deck (accidently of coarse). After righting the bikes, calming down the Krustinator(cause he had that red look in his eye, which i noticed was the reflection of his brake light that he was holding in his hand) with a joke or 10, we got going again. Hitting some more twisting and turning uphill stuff we found the hill TB talked about. When we got to the bottom i volunteered to go back up to get some fotage, which TB will post i hope if he hasnt already. So i hit the hill in 3rd with plenty of throttle and had a ball. Got footage of everyone, had round 2 with the hill for the camera and headed off. After a while i lost sight of TB and idlejet untill i round a section and found him stopped,(later finding out he had an interesting moment with two trees)
With everyone well and truely warmed up again, and me almost running out of fingers on one hand to count the lay downs after a spectacular lock up/slide into a tree, we popped out of the pines and into some twin trails.
Following TB was a challenge but a great way to learn some lines, and techniques untill we came across the Chainsaw. He told me to wait at the bottom for 2 minutes and the come up. I hit the hill not knowing what was coming but the intention not to make a spectical as TB no doubt had the camera zoomed in. It was a great challenge and with again the help of my trusty recluse (and the kato gods), i eventually made it up the hill.
A quick section of twin track then back into some awsome single’s we pulled up again for a quick breather. Again we were interupted by another mountain biker this time no bikes were harmed. After an intense chat, and hopefully some barriers between mountain bikers and trailriders broken we got back into.More to come…..
Replace itsagas with idlejet in this epic tail
