Before Tommy distorts the truth here like fb   I failed my first run, yes! I was also the only person who attempted the hard run first up
when I aimed up to the middle track 2nd run at Big Red, MY FIRST RUN ON THE MIDDLE TRACK I WAS SUCCESSFUL FIRST GO same as Tommy!! Also was first up the top hope that clears it up

Sensitive boy aren’t you Tommy

Fish funnily enough taught me some good Fishing tricks when it comes to drop a line out there and waiting for a bite, i didn’t even try that time and look what happened!!!!!

With the DR fixed and ready to go, we headed out to big red to have some fun! The run out was defiantly, one of the highlights of the trip. We rode out via a dune that TB found the day before, which was a good warm up. The rode out to big red took a detour and that’s where the magic started.
The rode ran parallel with the dunes “s”ing its way along and then turn right 90 degrees along a fence and up and over the first dune, which I hit with a bit of pace and had to call Birdsville airport for clearance to land lol!!!
After hitting a few more dunes we pulled up to watch the rest of the crew and it was great to watch Fish and Boulder, at work in the sand! Top stuff! We got going again and the road weaved left and right snaking its way to big red with a few quicker straights chucked in for fun!
Big red was a sight to see from the bottom! It was awesome. And watching TB fail his first attempt I began to S the G!!!! I watched a few guys go up the medium track and all before me besides the ostrich made without a drama! It was my turn and I didn’t think too much, and hit in second wide open! Making it to the top got rid of the nerves but I was rather keen to watch someone go the hard track! Boulder smashed it and Fish and I went down to have a crack! Fish went first and his fate was the same as TB’s! I dropped the pressure in my tyre, and had my first attempt! And stopped near the top! The track from the bottom to about half way was awesome, 2nd gear pinned and held on for the ride! That itself was great let alone (on the fourth attempt) making my over the top!! To say I was happy with my efforts was an understatement!
Nick J and I rode across to the adjacent dune to take a look at the Simpson, which getting to the top was more fun, with peg high sandy tracks with a few ruts to make it worthwhile! The view was spectacular and made you want to keep riding to see what else the Simpson had to offer! (Keep posted for that adventure, on my other adventure bike lol).
We turned back and inflated tyres, and Fish and Boulder led the way out! Much the same as the way in, it was awesome riding! Both myself and Fish hit the same dune in the same fashion, with speed and smiles on our faces! I landed with a bit of a moment, as a landed in fish’s fresh made rut, I managed to power out of it and Lotsa said he thought I was gone!
We made our way into town for a quick bite to eat and a splash and dash! A quick photo outside the famous Birdsville pub and we head out of town! The road out of town was fairly hard packed, and I cruised a bit to save the tyre! But found myself a little bored! We stopped a couple of times, leap frogging two aspiring adventure riders, one on a DR650 (legend) and the other on a KLR650!
They were nice blokes and me and the jackeroo on the DR had a bit of fun as I was sitting back out TB and Nicks dust (and getting bored catching them and dropping back off lol).
After our second breather the road got a bit more interesting, the road had a few bog patches and detours around, which were more fun than the road itself! It went into creek beds and had sweeping lefts and rights! And more detours to keep me on my pivot pegs lol!!
We made it to the big sheering shed and had a snack and a look around! Boulder and fish went ahead to get Beers and meet us at the Dig tree! Well the drama that unfolded for them was the opposite of what happened for us! We rode some great sandy, hilly roads and as the entire trip we were really spoilt with awesome roads and spectacular views! We rode past a grass fire and stopped further ahead to wait for the rest of the group! TB did his speed run for the camera, (should call him dell). After the boys caught up we continued on at a fun pace and arrived about 45 minutes later at the Dig tree! We pulled up at our campsite with finally a creek bed that was full! Set up camp and slowly began to worry about the Boulders! Nick and Lotsa ducked off for some fire wood and we got a bit worried about them too!
When Fish pulled up (with case of beer), he told us of his drama packed arvo with his bro, and we spent the night around the camp fire when the boys finally got back!More to Come!
The run into Cameron’s corner after a day and outaminka (and pocket pub)Dejay
RIP mate!!!!
With the right pressures for conditions and weight, it is a great tyre!
It had plenty of traction, it felt great and for the time I had it on it had hardly any wear!
I found the only weakness however! The wrong pressure for the wrong conditions with the weight I carried, and no Ultra heavy duty tube being a 17 I got a puncture which was no big deal, but I did not feel it go as the sidewall of the E09 is hard and low profile!
If michellin release a UHD tube it will be a great combo for long distance and high K’s as I said it wore very minimal!
The 606 for the short time I have experienced them were also a good tyre and easier out of the comforts of your shed to fit! But as Nick and TB experienced they wear faster!
Just my experience! Will run one again on the DR!Dejay
Well the next day was all about hoping someone in birdsville had a tyre! To add to my worry, all the locals had told me the bloke across the road will have something, but first thing when he opened, he had no motorbike tyres at all!
Went round to the second and last chance and the mechanic was not in yet and the lady at the servo said, he opens when the roller door goes up!!
About 8.30 he rocks up and I asked the question, and didn’t not get back a confident look, but he went upstairs anyway! And down flew a tyre! $150 he said, done, when I grabbed it, it felt very soft and I knew the rest of the trip would be easy going for me! Lol sure!!
I borrowed Fishes Tyre and rim, and with the help of Krusty, NickJ, Lotsa and TB, we headed out to bring the DR in!
Found the bike about 40 K’s out of town, where I left it, lol, and got it going without a hitch!
Rode back to town and was starting to feel better, when that feeling of a water bed came back! I pulled over, and by this stage I was well and truly over it! But oh well! Krusty and Nick rode back to get Boulders tyre, and the rest stayed! Again Bathurst style wheel change, nice and quick, and made it back, to find Fish and Boulder, like legends they are, had changed my tyre! I was speechless!
I put the bike on a milk crate, which it fell off twice but we caught it twice lol, top work TB and Gaz! Wheel back on and everything hunky dorie!
A great arvo of beers and stories and much the same into the night!More to come!

PS. I just want to say it now but I will later again, A massive thanks to Boulder and Fish! Unbelievable pair of absolute legends( no trying to blow your trumpet), the knowledge that you guys have between you, of tracks, trips, and advice is awesome, and every word you guys said to me, will be in the memory bank with the tumble weeds, until I’m pushing up daisies! First to help, last to leave! Thanks guys!
Day 3 started without too much drama, we made our way back into maree and fueled up! The trip into to town was fantastic! The sun rise was awesome and only interrupted by the odd roo or emu, a splash and dash, but not before a look at the old mail truck of Tom Kruse ( I think that spelling is wrong), what a great Aussie legend, RIP.
We headed out to birdsville, and the first half of the trip there was reasonably uneventful, some great riding when we turned on to the detour to the ferry!
From the ferry to Mungerannie road house was great! I hung back with Boulder and watched the mistro at work! It was a another great road, twisting and turning through sand, eventually make it’s way out to the main track!
The Mungerannie road house was a nice pub, which I Saw none of as I spent the time we were there filing out a washer to fit TB’s head set bearing. But oh well, better to do it properly yourself then die wondering! Nice of the guys to lend us there tools!
We hit the road again, and the first 100 or so K’s flowed really good, and we stopped for a regroup and a quick chat! After which the Birdsville track will never be forgotten! We hit the road again and not longer after we stopped for TB to vent some of the gas out of his Klim jacket( bit wofty by the end lol)! Well it was like running wide on a corner at Bathurst Fish and Boulder pounced and took off like scalded cats! It was good to watch them but I had no chance of catching so I settled back in and watched from a distance!
I rounded a right hander, then a left, to see Fish pulling over! So naturally I pulled up to help! He told me of the spongy feeling he got through the last corner, and he pulled up! Sure enough his rear was flat! He described the way the bike felt and as he was saying it, I thought well mine felt much the same! I turned around to see what everyone hates. A flat rear! No great drama, I helped Fish for abit until Lotsa, Mick, Krusty and Gaz turned up to help as well!
I looked for a rock to sit the bike on but could get it to sit, so Krusty the good bloke he is, held the bike while I ripped the wheel off! I pulled the tyre off to check for debris, as NickJ found some in his and that was fresh in my mind, and couldn’t see anything! Good as gold, chucked it back together, with some help from Boulder as he got worried and came back! The E09 was bait tricky to fit even hot but all good! We hit the road again, and went about 20k’s.
I was crusing along and it got the shakes up! Pulled up to check, and sure enough another flat! I put it down to a pinched tube and didn’t think much of it. Pulled the tube out and sure enough it look pinched, oh well, no great drama! Back on it went!
Much the same 20 or so more K’s and bobs your uncle the shakes again!
Pulled up and this time I knew it was going to be bad! We pulled the tyre off to find a rip, a third of the way around the tyre at the tread side of the side wall!
Well I was lost for words and could not think of n e thing to do! Sure enough Boulder springs into action! We cut open the last flat tube, used it as a liner and layed in another tube! (good luck if u ever have to do this it was hard work getting that tyre back on)! there was no two ways about it, over 70 odd K’s left to travel, the tyre was not going to make it!
We hit the road and this time the Boulders Hung back and I moved ahead to get as far as I could before it went! Things were going good and I was about 50 K’s out of town! When it went flat again, with no sense in fitting another tube, I rode it in flat! I took my top bag off and Boulder carried it on his bike! Again it was going ok, if the speed was constant, Fish dropped back to check to see the Tyre and Boulder moved ahead to get into town! Fish rode up beside me and gave me the thumbs up, not ten seconds later the tyre blew both tubes out the side, rapped around the swingarm, locked the back wheel up and jammed rubber in between the brake and disc! What a ride that was pulling it up! I was happy to have stayed upright and off the track!
We struggled to untangle the mess of rubber as it was red hot. We got the wheel turning again, and we decided as it was all but dark, to abandon the DR and head for town! Fish dumped his side bags with my bike and I sat on the back with legs dragging up the road, and twisted to the right as I had my camelbak on, trying to hold my legs up but struggling when the bike bottomed through the cause ways! After a hick up with boulders bike, we got going again, this time a bit more comfie!
It was the longest 45 K’s I reacon, I have done! But we made it!
We got to the pub, and there was people asking questions and confused looks bike, and only one man had what I was looking for! Lotsa had beers! Never tasted anything so good, as I ran out of water after the first flat!!
The night was great, plenty of laughs, plenty of beers, and great company! It was a great way to end a crap day on the track!More to come!

Well as TB has already stated, the morning did not start how I wanted, as I bumped the grip heaters and they ran the battery flat! At that stage I had the shits but after a quick jump start from the legend Lotsa, I was underway again, and stalled it!!! We tried push starting it but as we headed straight for the creek bed it lost speed quick!
Again Lotsa to the rescue, and I was underway! I had the shits but realising I was in the Flinders ranges instead of being at work, I sat back and enjoyed the sights, and dodged the wildlife!
We stopped a few times to take in the sights, and have a quick regroup, and rode some great tracks to blinman, which boulder and fish talked about but were better than they described!
A fuel up for the boys and bikes and a chat with the locals and we headed off to Lyndhurst, via Leigh creek and some more great roads!
We made it to Lyndhurst around lunch and enjoyed a meal and a beer!
Sitting outside everyone was chatting and I noticed TB, with maps out and could hear the gears winding over in his head! I kept looking at the words Camerons Corner on the road sign, and sure enough, with a look at the whether we changed the route and as soon as we did it started to bucket down! To the point that the driver of a road train in the pub ran out and turned the truck around!!! We geared up and headed for a look at Lake ayre!
The ride out to the lake was good and seeing the south end of the lake with water in it was something special!
As there was no real place to camp we headed back and found a great camp site, on the bank of another sandy creek bed, next to the old Ghan railway track!
Krusty had a fall in the sand and I ran over to help as his leg was pinned under the bike, I asked if he was stuck, and he said “no I just wanted you to have a look”, I held back the laughs and lifted the bike up, but could hear Nick laughing his head off!
We set up and watched another awesome sunset, with some great pics taken!
We all ate and laughed and as I hit the hay, the wind died off and but it started to rain! Thank fully it stopped pretty quick! But I had some though tsp of last years attempt at the corner!More to come! Pics when I figure it out!
Well the journey to get to the adventure had ended, with the DR built and tested, and everything was ready to go! Bags packed and repacked and then after TBs shock decided to start leaking the day before the start, his, mine and Nick’s gear was pulled down and all the things we had triple of were packed into nicks, and my bag and TBs stuff divided into the boulder brothers bags along with ours!
A quick trip around the caravan park at Silverton to check the extra weight was ok, and I didn’t notice anything so we parked up, and enjoyed a meal and a brew at the Silverton pub.
The next morning, with the nerves at an all time high, I went over everything in my head making sure I had everything, and geared up!
The nerves stayed with me into Broken hill, and after a quick fuel stop, we hit the railway service track to Yunta. It was at this point the crazy sepo, had a crack at my record of quickest crash on the dirt after only 40 meters (my record still stands)!
A quick checkover and refit of the bags, the group caught up with TB, Nick and myself about a K or so up the track! The conditions were all but perfect, with the track in great condition, whether was clear and the nerves gone, and I was having a ball, riding down into dry creek crossing/ gullies and powering the DR out, with Nick hot on my Tail!
I came across a rutted out creek bed with TB pulled up for a view of the action! I mad my way out the otherwise without drama, and watched the pack do the same!
A few more creek crossing and no real dramas, I was warmed up and ready for what was to come!
TB, followed the track down beside the bridge and into a dry creek crossing! Coming up to the creek the grass was a few meters high and we could not see the condition of the creek so TB rode down to view, we rounded the corner and high grass and I saw the Tenere peg deep in soft sand roosting as high as the grass! By this stage I was committed to go the same direction to turn around! And as this was my first time on the sand, on a bike, I was lucky to able to follow TB, and not have time to think, just backed myself and let the DR do the work! To say it was fun, would be an understatement, it was great, and help my confidence for the trip!
We back tracked and hit the road, to bypass the creek, and back to the track!
It continued on, a few more K’s until Nick got the first flat for the trip! Which was has only but not the last for the trip! A quick check and change of the tyre, and we were underway again!
We came across a few more dry sandy creek crossings, but a lot smaller than the first, after the first two, the third saw my first hick up, with the lip of the creek dropping down into deep sand and I dug the front wheel into the sand, and gave Nick a good laugh, as I almost dropped the DR! Almost! I made my way through the sand having heaps of fun, and got off the bike as I thought I would be the only one to have a hick up, and as suspected Mick, and the Kato decided to have a lay down! All was ok, and we got going again, for a short section, to find creek crossing/ bog hole. I watched TB go through and had a crack myself, got bogged down and lost my footing and the DR was handlebar deep in mud! I managed to get it up and after great difficulty getting back on, after I was fairly deep in mud, The DR was great and tractored through, but it wasn’t pretty!
Where I stopped brought Nick undone and he got bogged down! With a bit of help and both wheel’s locked up as they were packed with mud and grass, we managed to push it out to get the wheels turning again and then, rode it with the front wheel locked up, up to the road!
I pulled most of the grass and mud out of my bike and rode it up the road to clear the rest!
Nick and TB pulled their low guards off to clean, and after a few laps on the road, we were back underway! We slabbed on to make up time, but the track flattened out so we got back on and enjoyed it in sections until we pulled up for a late breakfast!
From there we slabbed 40 odd K’s into Yunta and fueled up! Grabbed a few beers and hit the road out to the flinders range’s! We cruised along and dropped out of TB and Nick’s dust, and enjoyed the country side!
In spots I caught back up and we went 3 wide up the road! It was a lot of fun and as we rode up a fair sized hill we pulled up to regroup, enjoy the view and a beer!
After a refreshing beer, we headed up the track a little way until we turned left and headed into a fun section of road that made it’s way over a range and down into some crossings! It was loads of fun and we travelled until about 5ish until we made a camp at another dry sandy creek!
We set up camp and enjoyed the sunset over the ranges!More to come, loading the pics of above in a sec
