Happy Birthday mate
Hope you have a good one!!
Dejay
I think he’s running an E09, with all the weight and power of the might DR, we could both be in trouble!
:woohoo: What tyre combo are you running Mick?
Well tomorrow should see the final touches, and completion on the DR650, project bike. And the trip to ???? Silverton, And SA, will no doubt be the ultimate test!
It has been a busy few weeks, and with just over 1500 K’s on the clock, I’ve had a chance to get use to the bike, feel comfortable on the bike and I’ve had a chance to put everything to good use! When the idea of a new adventure bike was put into action, TB and I talked about dealing with Old bull site sponsors, to not only cut the cost of the project down as much as possible, but to make the process alot easier, dealing with familiar people and possibly make things easier for anyone else toying with the idea!
I just want thanks to everyone involved, Starting with the Guys up at Wauchope. The major, for making the first couple of phone calls and setting things up for me with
Mud N Tar!
The guys at Mud N Tar, Rod and Brock, for a great price and great service! Very
helpful and friendly every step of the way!
The next person involved, offered to bring the bike back down and meet me with it, but unfortunately his truck was loaded, and the DR Is a little heavy to chuck up top!
Thanks for the offer without hesitation Moose, and some advice about gearing and such along the way! Can’t wait to pair up with you on the big ride and mow down the Tenere’s!!!  :woohoo:
The awesome team at Sutto’s, and to be specific, Scotty, for your hard work tracking all the parts down and getting them in very quickly! And all the stress days before your holiday!
Since purchasing my KTM 400, with Sutto’s, the service from the team is always high quality, friendly, and competitively priced! From Sutto, and the guys out the front to Shaun and the the expert mechanics out the back! Thanks for all your help so far and no doubt more in the future!
Steve at Adventure moto, going through everything we could think of and weighing up the pro and cons to it all, with great advice and fantastic old bull pricing!
Jason Barrett at Barrett exhausts, a great sounding pipe, ripper of a price, and awesome service, dropping it off at your parents place for me to pick up so we didn’t have to travel to Bilpin to get it, will recommend anyone in the market for a new pipe to give Jason a call! Australian owned and made is one thing I look for when purchasing anything, and I am 100% satisfied with the pipe, looks awesome, the sound and the performance it has given has transformed the bike! Thanks again!
Evil Rudy and the team at Tekniks, for a great job, advice and quick turn around on the suspension! This is the first bike I have had the suspension modified and I am blown away with the difference it has made to the bike! It rides great and handles like it’s on rails! I gave it a good testing last weekend on the wash out/ errosion banks with all the gear on the bike, and about 20 extra kilos of water as it rained the
entire day, and it performed perfectly! Great work, will be getting some parts to do the Kato very soon!
And most importantly TB, the guru! The amount of running around, and time spent helping me every step of the way, the advice on what to buy, and the 1 hour spent on the Tenere ( as you later told me u were more nervous then me)! I hope I’m the first on the favour list when you need a hand with something! Thanks again for your great advice and help! Thanks again to everyone!!

5440ish Minutes until we leave, getting nervous and excited!
Dejay
Top stuff Nick, looks great!
Second is ok too, second Klim Traverse suit on an Old bull, :woohoo: :silly:
Thanks TB, only missing a couple of things, so not too bad! Appreciate the effort, thanks mate!
“GUARANTEED TO KEEP YOU DRY”
Well I left my House on Sunday at about 5am, It rained constant from when I left to when I arrived home!
At the half way mark at the pub, I had water around my neck, where my Leatte pulled the jacket down a little! But it was minimal!
When I got home, the jacket was fairly drenched as for me inside, i was close to the same state as when I left the pub! And it rained harder on the way home!!!
To say I’m happy with the jacket would be an understatement!!! And the pants they are no different to the jacket when it comes to keeping dry!!!
Traveling at higher speeds in the cold the Klim gear was tops! No wind found it’s way into the jacket and I was warm,( even without grip heaters working)!!
In the tighter stuff where it got abit warmer, I open up two vents on the side of the jacket and was happy with the amount of cooling it added but still remained at a comfortable temperature!!!
You get what you pay for!!! It is great gear, will recommended it and Steve at adventure moto to anyone who is interested in it!!!!Dejay
As I have quickly found out it’s not the destination it’s the adventure, I’m in for watever! :woohoo:
I don’t think it’s anything near a Nazi regime, Preventitive maintenance is a massive part of mine and Gregs industry, and we both see first hand what happens if things get over looked!!
I know i have a brand new bike, but it’s getting the same treatment as everyone else’s, it’s not having to do it before the ride, it’s doing it now and having a ripper of a time trouble free to Camerons and back!!! :woohoo:My two cents
Dejay!!!!!!!!!
The red stuff mate, threadlocker i think it says on the bottle!!
After Lefty and Boulder changed the tyre we were off again, we come out on to a wide twin train, which was straight in sections and plenty of holes to keep us on our toes! The wind had picked up, and blew the dust right of the track so it was good riding conditions!
We made our way onto some logging roads and the eventually onto another great trail, that linked up with one we used on the TTT rally a few weeks before!
Talk about spoilt, it was plenty of fun on the KTM and was just as fun on the DR! It was a long section of straight track on the top of a ridge, with a few half decent size hills along the way! Heaps of fun!! The road turns off and theres more fun running through the forrest, with 3rd and 4th gear turns, up hill, great stuff to end the quicker sections of the day!
After a quick regroup, the road pops out onto the wombeyan caves road, which we followed to Mittagong!
To start with this road is not my favourite road in the world, but that paticular sunday, we had some disagrence! In two different sections, i hit the ground, and both times were coming into dry cause ways, with heaps of loose stuff on top!!
Oh well, what do u do!
We eventually made our way into Mittagong, for a pub stop!! A couple of coldies to top off a great weekend!!! We finished it off with a ride throught hill top thirlmeer, the oaks, and home!!What a weekend, Thanks to everyone that made it along and made it enjoyable!
A Special thanks to Lefty for helping me pick up my bike, a couple of times i think!
Thanks to Boulder for your patience, and only laughing at my record stack, around the camp fire!!!And to Thanks to TB for some wicked riding, loads of awsome tracks, again your patience, and your words of wisdom as always!!
Cant wait for the next one, And Camerons!!!!!
Dejay
I did it twice on the weekend, and lucky TB yelled out via the blue tooth or it could have been worse!!
Well after a bite and some fuel and TB emptied his camelbak all over the floor in the servo, we hit the road to Oberon, via a section of dirt, which is always good! And found our way to the turn off to Kanangra national park!
A quick stop to regroup and we hit the dirt! It was a great road to ride on, slippery in spots but loads of fun none the less!! TB had warned me to be at the ready, as he had to find the entry to a track and may not give me much notice to turn, but he spotted it with enough room to stop!
We waited for lefty to front so we could head off down a fire trail, and as always he wasn’t too far behind!
The fire trail like all the trails we rode on during the day was awesome, a few down hill sections had us back to 1st gear but most if it flowed pretty good!
We wound our way down the track, passing a 4wheel drive ( that we would see again a few times), down to a river, before the river was kind of a billabong, with water blocking the track! TB hit the embankment and rode up and over with great success around the water! To paint a picture the embankment was about 1.5 to 2 meters high, and to be honest didn’t look too complicated, besides a log blocking a bit of the track. Well I hit it once and had to roll back to miss the log but kept going backwards to the point where i started! I tried again with more revs and aimed right to miss the log, but my aim was a stray and the bike and I went upside down, down the embankment! I jumped off the bike as u do, before it hit and landed in the billabong which was about forearm deap, at exactly the same time lefty rode across the water! It was a comedy of errors! Bloody hilarious, I yelled out to TB on the blue tooth, but all I got back was I’m in the middle of crossing the river hang on!
Lefty helped me right my bike, which took some doing, and crossed the next section of the river without any drama! I pulled up on the other side to assess the damage, which was minor, but herd Gaz, Krusty and Boulder coming! So I went down to the river to a look! After the 4 wheel drive that we passed went through the others turned up and had crack!
Gaz was doing good until he stopped 3/4 of the way and had trouble restarting, and after a minute or so he was underway, and a push up the hill saw him done, Krusty and Boulder had no dramas and after some minor adjustments we got going again!!
We headed up to the next crossing and over took the 4WD for the second time, the next part was a rocky hill climb, and some big ruts chucked in for good measure! This and the next section was the highlight of the trip, the pace was up another notch, and I could hear lefty into it so I wanted to watch the master at work! Unfortunately I didn’t get to see much because he took off after TB, so I nailed the DR and hung on.
We crossed the river again and waited for the others to turn up! There was abit of a
wait, and we found out when the boys arrived that there was a mishap. I’ll let Krusty tell what happened because I really don’t know, and he looked p’ed off so I sat on my bike and waited to go!
We got going again and there was another quick hill climb or two, and apparently TB saw lefty literally flying past me, with front wheel level with my helmet  :woohoo:
We reached the four wheel drive again and wasted no time passing it for the 3rd time! The track went on for a little longer and came to a T intersection, we waited for a bit but decided to go back because I was sure Lefty was chomping at the bit to get past me again but then I couldn’t hear him! Sure enough, we pulled up to the XR on a log with lefty pulling off the front wheel!More to come, but not much more!
Whats with the beanie?

Well the night went well except i forogt my chair! But that was the worst of it so i cant complain. Up at 5.30, and ready to ride at 6.40ish!
Crossed the river without any drama, with some coaching from TB, with makes the world of difference!
We hit the Bridal trail in fine form, nice and early and it was spectacular. :woohoo: :woohoo:
A nice flowing warm up pace was on, and when we were warm we got crackin, slowed only by the wild life!! Bloody sheep!!!
My first time on the trail and it did not dissappoint!! It was great and the bluff was pretty cool!!! (hope i get to see it again and they dont close it).
We snaked our way along the river, and crossed 3 times i think without to much drama from us up front, beside abit of a traction issue where lefty drop the XR at mooses crossing!!!!
TB’s Aldi bought GPS found a bloody ripper of a track, and the pace step up another notch, as it was a pearler and had to be enjoyed!! The track/road popped out just out of Sofala, which we were there early and nothing was open so we kept going to Sunny corner to grab brekkie!
Out of sofala, we joined up with a track that followed its way along the Turon and Palmers Oaky! We were spoilt with bloody good riding, this was another great run, and it got better and better, with some rocky hills and loads of fun offered by the washouts/windrows(watever u call them).
Between Palmers oaky and sunny corner was alot of fun, untill we found our way into the rally! Woops!!!! We tried our best to avoid the guys on the rally, but unfortunatley, everywhere we turned there they were!! So we waited for a gap and headed our way along the logging roads, but again they were using them! To TB’s credit, he took no risk’s, knew where to go and how to avoid them!! After a few quick singles we popped out on the road again, and made out way to camp Old bull at sunny corner, which was empty!! Boys were obviously out having fun so we kept on to Yetholme for fuel for bikes and boys!!More to come, Bloody work again!!!
