    Hi guy’s

I’ve finally got around to getting a new spring and I started to change it, but I need a little help.

I’ve got a 2009 450EXC and I cant find anything that shows you how to remove and replace the old spring from the shock. I’ve found the WP PDS for the earlier model but nothing for my 2009.

Looking at it I can see 3 possible ways to get the spring off, but I’m hesitant incase I stuff it up. If anybody knows how to do this please let me know.

The 3 different ways I can see:
    1. the nut around the rebound dampener adjustment on the bottom of the shock
    2. if you pry the rubber stopper at the bottom of the shock it shows a collar around the shock shaft with 2 flattened edges that you could get a open ended spanner on
    3. unscrew the entire top off the shock, but I guess this would mean regassing.

Please if you have any answers they’d be appreciated. I can upload photo if needed.

Yes, I got the $1500 worth of power parts, most of that is in the Akapovic muffler, so it is a decent deal.

    Hi Guys,

Just an update, I ended up getting the KTM 450EXC. A brand spanker too, Uncle Kev had offered to pay for some of it so, how could I refuse.

I only picked it up yesterday, and managed to get about 30minutes on it before the sun went down.

It’s currently parked in my lounge room (to my girlfriends disapproval), because I don’t want those theives getting into my garage before I get a chance to fit some locks.

    Thanks for all the help.

    Hi Rhino,

I’m in WA, just south of the river in Perth.

I just got my new ride yesterday… A KTM 450EXC. I’m just getting back into the sport.

I do get down your way some weekends, my Mum lives down that way. We’ll have to catch up some time for a ride.

Where is it you go riding, I need to find some trails to unleash my new beast on.

Just looked up the Gas Gas dealers way out west, there’s only one, and it’s a not a dedicateted bike shop, it’s a tyre shop, so I think i’ll steer clear of them. As for the rest of the bikes they’re all here.

Thanks Ollie, I’m sure I’m gonna love getting back into it.

Another question to throw out to the group, is there any difference between the KTM 400EXC and the 450EXC. In the past it looked like the stroke was the main difference with the engines, but looking at the KTM website there’s only a 0.6mm difference in the stroke length.

Also theres a promo on the 450 but none on the 400.
