I hear what ya sayin Mr Blue.
Some people just can’t work it out.
I agree with ya sneezy. If someone had said to me 15 mths ago that in 15 mths time I would have 200 posts on a dirtbike forum I would of said no way man not me. It was only after speakin with Morgo and sayin that I had’nt been ridin as much as I usually did cause me ridin buddy was starin a family and we were’nt gettin out as often that he told me about the site and how I could get on some rides in my area. For a bloke like me it’s been great fun and few laughs aswell cause I love ridin. I’m not the most organised bloke so i take me hat of to TB and all you moderators. Not just that though, all the time that goes into all the stuff that TB does is pretty impressive and I know that I certainly ain’t capable of any of it. So thanks aswell.

Looks a nasty mate

we have more than our share of them on bikes, the image is what they crave, so we get tarnished with their crap.
Lets not forget that dirtbike riding is a very appealing sport and that some people may not have the means or the funds to be rego-ed and licenced but they get hold of a cheap Chinese shitter and away they go. Sometimes it’s easy to be judgemental but really who are we to judge anyway, afterall they probably have a bit of passion for bikes but just can’t get there shit together like us rego-ed blokes/ladies, but who says there heart ain’t in it. I’ve allways had bikes but when I was a kid the old man was quite happy to buy me bikes but takin me riding somewhere legal just did’nt happen. We did’nt even have a trailer. Once and I mean once he put me first minibike he got me into the boot of the monaro and took me to my uncles property for a ride, other than that I had to sort out me own way of riding and getting to a local track to ride. When I say local these were small parcels of land within suburbia. Ya had to push em or ride em there and being a kid I took the easy option. When I became of age I got the rego and licence all sorted. I fell in love with bikes when I was a kid so I can see how other people can also have that passion without the proper resources to be fully rego-ed and licenced but they hit the bush and give it a go. Afterall giving it a go is the aussie way. I’m not condoning it and I know that it was alot different than than now with bike sales growin huge in the last decade and heaps more people gettin into it, but it does’nt mean youngmate with his arse hangin out of pants and not much dough ridin around on some shit box unregeo-ed heapa loves it any less than we do. It may be wrong of me but I still get a bit of a buzz seein a youngen fangin around the neibourhood havin a ball. There is a lot more serious shit goin on and I know I only havta go to the pub to see it. This is only my opinion so no offence intended.
I don’t think rec rego is the go. I reckon it all lies in good communication and education with the right/smart people administering it. Maybe more ride parks for the unrego-ed crew that’s close to the main towns/cities. Lets hope it’s a positive work in progress.
Hey there Astray.
I would be looking at a XR250 or a DRZ250 with rego. Great learners bikes and a bit more grunt than the 230’s and you’ll get one for the dough that you have for sure. Ya did’nt mention if ya had a licence either. If not get it all sorted and you’ll be able to go some great OLDBULL rides up your way.Catch ya on the trails.

Top idea TB. My trailer is due for new bearings so thanks for the tips.

I read in the link Mick put about a state forest ride area for kids. Mick and I have had this discussion and the question I have is who is going to pay (its needs supervision, track maintance, arrowing for direction, there would be limits to the numbers etc etc etc) who wants that next door to them? The extra traffic, the rubbish, the noise etc etc. So it needs to be further out from town, then people cant be arsed driving their kids that far so the vacant land behind the tip, oval, bush behind home will do. The argument was put up the parents could supervise the state forest ride area. Really? parents most parents dont want to flag marshall at race days put the club make them (and they whinge about it) so how would that work when the irresponsible parent turns up with his pit bike, puts the helmet on the kid and cracks a stubbie?I don’t think State Forests will let it happen because ya havta be rego-ed to ride in there. Unless some legislation changes are made I can’t see it happening. It would be nice and I support anyone tryin to achieve it but I just think it won’t happen cause of the rego thing. That’s why all the rides in the forest, riders have to be rego’ed and licence.

Your to nice to ya mates TB.
I’ve still gotta get a heart stress test but I got the all clear for the prostate blood test. This was on Doctors orders. Go see ya doctor and get them to sort out what ya need. I’ve now joined a gym and try and go there 3 times a week. I take the kids sometimes and pump some iron and do some aroebic stuff. It’s all good fun and a bit of a laugh aswell to watch “the gorillas” as my sons call the big body builders. I feel heaps stronger overall and have a bit more spring but i still have a fair way to go. I think the body I had in me twenties has gone for good though  I am enjoying it, so it’s working out ok but slow and steady is the go for me.
I’m tryin to party less and workout more but it is a stuggle sometimes as old habits die hard. The motovation to be there for the wifey and kids is winning out at the moment. :cheer:
Try and get ya bum on em for a good ride mate. I would be taking into account ya weight and ya ridin style. The extra grunt of the 530 would be nice and playfull in the open stuff but 450 may be better in the tight stuff. A mates got a 530(08)and it is great fun to ride but i have not had ride on the Honda 450. That’s my 2 bobs worth. Either way ya gettin a new bike so good luck and enjoy the process mate.
If we all were the same it would be a boring world to live in. Sometimes emotions get in the way and we act up and do stupid things. This is highlighted in high pressure/physical sports. Just look at footy players. We all love it when there’s a biff on, so I can’t see the difference. I know I’ve acted irresponsibly at times but I’ve never set out to be an arsehole rather I’ve got caught in the moment and reacted poorly.
My 12 year old son still has tantrums sometimes but that’s just him. Afterwards he always says sorry and feels bad about it as I bet this young fella does too.Bad sport….I don’t think so.
G’day mick it is sad news. I met a bloke at the Watagans bash this year on the Sat night. He was a friend of my nephews father inlaw and about our age. He was involved in setting the course up with the organisers and a nice bloke. On the Sunday he headed out on for a loop and about ten minutes in clipped a tree or root and binned it pretty bad. Apparently he was sent through the air and the impact was what really stuffed him up and he suffered servere spinal damage and is still in hospital now with limited feeling and movement although I’m a little unsure how he is progressing now but it was not looking too good for him. He’s a family man with a wife and kids so I really feel for him cose i know he was doing something he loved and now that is all finished.
I can’t imagine what Harley’s family are going through as I know it would rip me apart if it happened to one of my kids.I like to wish him all the best with it and lets hope it does’nt happen to any more fellow dirt-bikers.

Quote:Gday Brad, just a couple of questions.Do you have to have a current MA license to do the training days??
And secondly, if my son was to do one of the days, will it count towards his compulsory 5 hours training for his racing log book as well as his 250cc accreditation?
Otherwise it sounds like good value to me.
Hey Mick. A lady I work with son has had lessons with Ando and she said he was not a registered trainer so it does not count towards training hours and ya don’t need a MA licence for lessons.
This was around the time of the nationals at Awaba a few weeks back so he may be registered now though.
She said he was a real good coach though.
I ride past his property every time I go for a ride from home and have watched him do helps of work with new fences and clearing and the track looks the goods to. I may even give my kids a lesson.
It will be very interest Krusty. Sounds like the bike will have a honda donk though. When I was younger I use to think why don’t us Aussies(not me) have our own bike/brand. As I got older i realised it was’nt as easy as that but maybe with Reedy’s pullin power we may see some parts/bits or a whole bike even made here for his new ride. It’s gotta be good for aussie sport I reckon. So good on him for having a crack.
