Hey Roy, wondered how long it would take you! Didn’t think you’d stay out of here too long!
Welcome to Old Bulls mate!
G’day Ken, might have to see about heading down your way this year if possble. We should look at that south coast run that we talked about a while ago too. Keen to explore down that way!
Cheers!

G’day! I’m Mick Irwin and welcome to Austalia’s Most Dangerous Creatures! Crikey, now what we have here is a rare species of crocodile and isn’t he a beauty! He has those beautiful red colours to try and attract a mate and scare off younger males. Unfortunately for him, I think the younger crocs have pretty much done for him. I’ll just sneak in here and try to tickle his belly, see if he will show you his underside…
Mick’s conversation with himself: Quick, think… What would TB do in a situation like this?
Out loud: “Orr Geez, my countershaft sprocket is loose and it threw the bike offline!!”
Yeah yeah, perfect! That’ll fool ’em! Brain, I could kiss you!
Roy, what do you need a manual for mate? Just use a bigger hammer!!
Speaking of the garage though… Must get around to servicing the bike after our last ride…
Aussie Garry Connell is out, poor bugger. Tore a cruciate ligament in his knee on Day 3 in the sand, timed out and wasn’t allowed to continue – even if he was able to. Condolences to Garry (who I met at the Aussie Safari and a nicer bloke you will go a long way to find).
Good to see Rob still going hard on his KTM.
Giving me the itch to get back to Safari this year!
I see Bruce Garland in the Isuzu D-MAX is still going (last time I checked anyway). Give ’em hell lads!

So there you go……
Top marks to you young man! We live and breathe degrees, minutes and seconds in surveying. Kinda forget that the rest of the world doesn’t!
Just checking out the Aussies progress over at ADV at the moment.
From Jacob Blacks Blog on http://www.sbs.com.au/sport/blog/sin…s-home-cleanly
Ahead of Connell, fellow debutante Rob Pollard set a solid pace, coming home 48th in provisional results, and first of the Aussies on his first real run in the Dakar. Pollard was surprised by his result.
“I took it pretty easy but still seemed to pass a few people,” he explained.
“Obviously a few people out there have had troubles, even now on day one.”
The 39-year-old likened the Stage 1 course to the Australian Safari saying, “It was all farm land and tracks, sort of like Australian enduro terrain. I like it a lot, but not on this bike, it’s too heavy.”
Sadly for Pollard, a 17-minute time penalty for an incredible 17 separate ‘speeding’ infringements on the liaison stage relegated him to 105th position on official standings. Pollard was notably distressed by the penalty, recorded on the bikes ‘Tripy’ GPS tracking system. The system is mandatory for all vehicles and tracks speed and direction at all times. Pollard said he couldn’t understand where he was speeding, but has copped the penalty on the chin.
The lads are going well, Rob (121) appears to be running in the top 20 overall now! Couple of times he was fastest on stage!
I think my pick is the Coonabarabran Pony Express with Rocket, Bolls, Cycletune and Boony as pit biartch! Great day and nice to meet some top blokes!
I really enjoyed the Hill End ride too, what a corker! :woohoo:
I also rate the DBW9 weekend at Catombal with Rocket, JRD, my brother and several (hundred) others!
Sadly I didn’t get to ride all that much in 2009, but 2010 is still young and the bike is set to go…
Wow, I didn’t know DR’s could be killed in any way!
Might be worth checking out the ADV forum as well (many of us are members there as well) because DR’s are par for the course over there. I can’t recall any being wrecked or parted out but it can’t hurt to ask.
Go the WR250!
Happy Birthday Aidan, and Happy New Year!

Looks like a cracker Mick. Good practice for the lads (young and old) on those slippery hills!
Nice report, thanks for sharing!
Best of luck to our Aussie contenders Garry & Rob and any others I may have missed – oh, and Bruce Garland in an Isuzu D-Max as well! Now this is a serious race!
Cheers to all on OBT, hope your 2010 is bright and happy! We have a whole new start and are looking forward to getting a little bit more in control of our lives!
Which for me means RIDING MORE!
Cheers Bigears!

Great job Bol, nice work! I run my bike through the business too, but haven’t ridden it (at all) much lately! Still it is nice to write off expenses to the business!
