Never been to the races, probably never will.I have better things to do with my time, than standing in the sun drinking over priced crownies. The track is so close to my house I can hear the horses training of a morning and still couldn’t be bothered going.

I’m with you Mick. Sport of kings my arse! I like horses, but I don’t see why people see the need to dress a midget in silk, strap him on a horse and make them run around in circles!?! Twisted!

Hey Allan! Welcome to OBT mate!

I think you may have the wrong idea on “power” of dirt bikes. They are not like a sport bike and the power is delivered differently and if you think about it, that HAS to be the case. Power is not the be-all and end-all when off the bitumen.

Most blokes in the tighter riding are faster on a 250 4-stroke or small-bore 2-stroke because the power delivery is much friendlier. (Waiting for the outcry…)

What you’ll find is that the DRZ400 is:
[ul]Plenty powerful for a “Returned” rider (back to dirt bikes after a layoff)
    User-friendly to ride
Relatively long service intervals (bearing in mind that 1000km is reasonable for a DRZ for slower riding, although you can stretch this out with gentler road/trail riding. I wouldn’t though. Mine was serviced every 300-500km.
Heavy, which becomes noticeable once you get more serious with single-track, hill-climbs etc
Under-suspended unless you weigh about 65kg
Cheap to sort out (Suspension front + rear about $600 – $1000)
    [/ul]

But think about the WR250R as a serious option.

    Double bump!

I spent some time yesterday cutting in some tracks at Wallareen… hooo boy, if you love twisty stuff through trees then picking your way through rocks, this will float your boat bigtime! I’m keen to get back and cut some more in, it was that much fun! Slow work but!

So, any more starters? I’d like a few more before I contact Catombal about booking the park for the day.

C’mon Old Bulls, this one is not to be missed!! B)

Thanks for that, I thought a lot about it and figured it must have been the 450 Vs 300 difference.

I’m interested to see your longer term opinions!

Yes mate, both places are kid-friendly. Catombal has the mini bike track and the learners loops and the farm is quite open in places, we could cut in a simple grass track with a mower no problem.

For something so dangerous it looks nothing particularly special on that video really. Still, it shows imagination and STONES!

Moto, good to see you enjoying the new baby!

Just curious about your impression of the torque. I was under the impression that 2t’s had MORE torque than 4T’s because every stroke is a firing stroke.

    From Wiki:

    Quote:
torque measures how hard something is rotated

Therefore, more “bangs” or firing strokes will give more torques for any given RPM. I believe that a 250 2t will crap all over a 250 4T for torque at a particular RPM, and have ridden a KTM250 2T, finding exactly that – compared to a 250 4T.

I might have it all wrong, but that’s my understanding…

Mr Blue could help us out here I feel sure…

Bloody hell, the sooner I can get someone to help out at work the better, this would be a corker!

Can’t do a Monday as things stand though… in fact I’m struggling to get any days at the moment! Between work and the family, its a tragedy I tell ya!

Have a good ride you blokes, as usual! B)

Nice work as usual the D’s and TB (nice vids mate!), Rocket and crew! Kylie, you need to show Dan how to write a report now! Wish I could have been there, would have been better than a bloody day-long seminar on “Wellness”!!!!

Just on the horse thing, I hear it is best NOT to shut the engines off because horses will spook if bikes are rolling (or sometimes just sitting still) with no noise. Not saying that was the case, but it is what I have been told by some “horsey” people. :)

    Bring on Mal5.1’s report!

G’day mate, welcome to OBT! Another Vicco, you blokes are gaining numbers fast, which is tops!

I’m sure a couple of our resident Vicco’s will be along shortly to virtually shake your virtual hand!

    Cheers!
