Love Laurie’s safety footwear! 😆
I have seen on TT that the WR’s have a recommended setting/measurement for when the rear wheel is off the ground, showing where the chain should touch the swingarm, or giving a recommended clearance to the swingarm. The problem I can see with this is that the more worn the chain the easier it will be for it to stretch down towards the swingarm, meaning you could tighten the chain too much and cause premature wear. That being said, the WR’s don’t seem to have the problems with chain tension that KTM’s do – not trying to start a brand war again, just calling it as I see it. The DRZ was easy with the snail cam adjusters (as would XR’s be) but I guess this is ‘old technology’ so the newer bikes have gone to the infinite adjustment of the adjusting bolt and lock nut. I’d still prefer the snail cam.
I know what it takes Chris, I find it tough enough managing my business website which is basic as. Can’t fathom how much more complicated OBT must be! Keep up the good work!
By the way, anyone need a survey done? Looking for work…
Seahorse! What a great name! And going hard at 60, impressive mate!
Welcome to the Old Bulls!
Wellington, central west NSW. I think I might be a Clarence boy at heart though! Or at least at the riding heart!
Sorry slug, Mick… what thread?
Lol! That’s ordinary Chris!
Lol… the ECKS thing!
Love it, make the message for that button appear as “the ECKS thing” please!
Famous for all the wrong reasons… still!
Chris, if you click on New Posts in a VBulletin forum like TT, ADV or even heaven forfend DBW, it gives you a list of the latest posts. Then if you go to DBW and find the Hill End ride thread then at the top right there is a small button with a down-arrow on it (at least in the black colour scheme). If you click that it will take you to TB’s post and skip all the crap in between that you have already read.
I guess I have not quite explained it properly before, because it isn’t the latest post link I mean but the Show Most Recent Message button on the threads in the list. Which, technically, isn’t even what I’m after – because I want to go to the most recent UNREAD message.
Make any sense?
Chris, don’t do this unless you first make the “Show Latest Posts” link go to the latest post itself rather than the page it is on. There is plenty of scrolling to be done now, without making more posts appear on a page. Also as Mick says, if the page is heavy with pics it will suck on dialup or slow broadband.
ED12’s are not good after the first 500km, the compound is too hard. Best to steer well clear of them – and my personal (un)favourite Kenda Carlsbads. There are so many better tyres out there!
So which option is renovate and which detonate?
Ok, I’ll be telling you what you already know Mick, but I reckon it depends on the bikes. What’s the condition of the busted one you have (obviously other than the engine)? Any fruit on it? When it is done up will it be as good a bike as the other one? What’s an XR600 worth when parted out?
I would look at the end value, and the other bike which has a lot of fruit and make a decision. Gut feeling from me is that the other bike is a good buy and you’d be better parting out the old banger.
If there is some sentimental value on the busted CAT bike, that may sway things as well.
Best of luck with that one!

Quote:Another discussion point thread for you that will eventually end up about something completely unrelated……….again.:angry:Surely the peaks on dirtbike helmets are not to keep the sun out of our eyes? Are we meant to believe that they are for added protection in the event of a faceplant, in that they fold down over the helmet opening to cover the goggles and eyes. To my way of thinking, there is always a good chance that the peak could hit the ground and snap the helmet backwards, breaking the cervical spine (fancy medical term for neck).
I have always had ideas about redesigning goggles that fit to the helmet internally without the need for the piece of elastic from grandma’s undies to hold them in place. This would then maybe allow you to wear ya roadbike helmet or a similar modified design, with a full face visor for protection. I won’t air my thoughts on my designs yet until this thread degrades into a slinging match about something trivial and needs bringing back on topic.
Now it’s over to the members for discussion.
Slug
Well Slug, I notice that this thread has degenerated into a strange mess that resembles nothing like the first post! And out of curiousity I tracked it back to where the off-topic chatter started:
