Over the last couple of years since KTM have owned Husaberg I think their reliability issues have dropped significantlt. Also the new Husaberg’s are made from 70% KTM parts, so it’s pretty much a modified KTM with an fuel injected angkled engine (as far as parts go):)

Gotta love those ankled engines. Much better than the kneed engines that preceded them, or the hipped ones before that!

Actually moto’s spot on from what I hear, the new Hussy’s are basically a mish-mash of KTM bits and bobs screwed together with tech screws and chewing gum or something like that! Possibly they even use bolts, but don’t quote me!

Hey Ecks WTF:unsure: 2 strokes are awsome bikes, for the riding that I mainly do,ie single trail and hilly shitty log infested stuff,I wouldnt have anything but a 2 stroke, For a ride like Hillend yeah go the 4 stroke,(champo you must of been feeling it at the end mate:laugh: )But the sheer power to weight, snap of the throttle and simple get it done attitude you cant beat em;) just my opinion

    Ollie, Ollie, Ollie!

Can’t believe you rose to that little bait! Man, that was ridiculous! Just having a dig at JRD – we grew up together. :)
That, and he test rode a Gasser 300 a little while back. I bet he’s still getting over the vibrations! :P

Actually, 2T’s, although not my cup of tea, are good bikes in the right hands (ie not mine) and on the right rides. Champo’s TM, once geared up, was actually better on the Hill End ride than the WR which wasn’t geared up.

Besides, you’d better get used to me having a dig at 2T’s because I ain’t gonna stop anytime soon!

I still say that hussy’s aren’t family friendly!

Unbelievable fires in Victoria. Our thoughts are with the firefighters and emergency services personnel and also with those who have lost loved ones, houses or posessions.

Also, best wishes to those in the flooded regions of Queensland.

It is always a problem buying a second-hand bike. You never know how good the previous owner was with maintenance. It seems silly to me that the bike has been dusted, I mean how easy is it to keep the air filter clean?? Slack, that’s what I reckon. Anyway, it should be right now eh! I’d expect 10,000km before any problems now! Go the mighty banana!

Just one thing ECKS, the GHR team use ready oiled filters and their engine builder told Chicken and myself they now get over 100hrs out of standard CRF450 valves now since they stopped washing their filters and used pre oiled. Thats the dust thing after washing and drying, and your right no one uses then dry, did I say that

Anyway I am not so sure regarding the ready ones like you say the WR one did like a bit funny :cheer:

Sorry TB, not saying that the GHR team are wrong – anyone who can make a (modern) Honda last 100 hours on valves is doing something right. I’m sure the one-use filters they use are better than the one I had is all I have to say about that!B)

Of course nobody uses a filter dry, you didn’t say that at all! You just mentioned that if we clean an air filter and let it dry then give it a bash you can see dust fly out of it. I tried it after you mentioned that and didn’t see any. I reckon if you clean an air filter properly then there is no dust in it and once it is oiled it should perform as well as a one-use filter.

These race teams obviously have budgets that eclipse mine so one-use filters are a better option for them than cleaning reusable filters.:woohoo:

Guys, just a request and if it can’t be avoided then its my bad luck, but with the Safari in the start of August I will most likely be on the road in the last week of July to get to WA – otherwise I’ll be helping organise everything with my brother-in-law.:)

So I’d like to request that the dates be earler in July please…

Why does you bike set fire to your leg ECKS, that cant be right? Hey we wont be going to ST now, it will all be pretty local exept one day Hillend for lunch and that by the time we get through the pine forests out the back of Mullion Creek wont be that bigger stretch.

    TB

Damn fine question TB, never heard of it anywhere before, but it sure as hell burnt me. It was a hot day both days but I wouldn’t have thought it hot enough to burn human flesh, even with the heat coming off the radiators.

I think I mentioned that maybe I had it a bit lean and possibly that caused it to run a bit hot? Otherwise my best guess is that because of the airflow the hot air was channeled on to my legs for long periods of time. It was a very slow thing, at Hill End I noticed it but only as a bit of what I thought was heat rash. I figure the best way to avoid it in future is to stay away from long road miles in hot weather.

I’ll make the call on Hill End closer to the date.

Speaking of dates, when is the Condo 750 this year? Is it like the following weekend or something?

Agree with TB, over the shoulder with them once they are bent. They never come good and if you can manage to straighten them they will be weak anyway.

Ecks, when you say there was a huge difference, did the pool filter do anything for the Filter? or was it a total waste of time? Curious, I’m trialing a CHUX on mine but its been wet this way so very little dust..I’d hate to think I’ve been spruiling thse tings only to find it to be a waste of time and money??

Definately not a total waste of time, but the actual filter underneath was quite dirty. In comparison, Holeshot’s filter underneath looked almost unused. I’d say if you were in really dusty conditions it would extend the filter’s usable time by a couple of hours if you rode till the skin was dirty and pulled it off and kept riding. After that though, the filter would need cleaning or replacing.

Which reminds me of TB spruiking the Readyfilters. I’m not a huge fan. The filter itself, although labelled for a WR250F 07 looked bugger-all like the genuine one. Chris refused to use the one he had. I managed to get it to fit and was happy to ride with it, but wouldn’t get one ever again. Not that cheap either at nearly $17 from the Orange Supercheap Auto.

As for TB’s argument about a filter – ie clean it and let it dry then bang it on a desk and watch the dust fly out? Who rides with a dry filter anyway? That’s why we use filter oil! Besides, after I wash out my filter it doesn’t have any dust, I tried after TB mentioned his little test.

So, in conclusion, filter skins from a bike shop are good, pool filter skins are better than no filter skin and ready filters are crap.

Nah mate, all good! I could see the difference in my filter and holeshot’s at Hill End. Stuck out like doggies it did. So there is a reason you pay more for the bike ones.

Really though, the filter should be capable by itself, the skin (or chux) is just for the larger particulates and other rubbish like grass seeds.

Great review Menace, just a few questions…
How’s the power, does it have a punchy midrange or is it more in the top end?
Was your test version stock or have you modified it in any way?
What did you think of the handling? I have heard that it is pretty smooth over the whoops?
How’s the mileage? Did you get much out of it before you were out?

    Thanks!
