Like everybody else has already said….What an amazing weekend of adventure riding!!. :woohoo:

TB worked his magic again with the tracks he put up for us to follow. :silly: :woohoo: :silly:

Thanks a million to TB, PTW, Mick D, King Strucky, Moose and the other leads, and sweeps.
Also a big thanks to Clean and Geeza for just loving this sport and the support you give.

Of course I can’t forget Wolfman, diligently waiting on corners and at the pub with no beer – ready at a moment’s notice to save the day for a stranded rider. Thanks for being there Wolfie and Adv moto.

I should name my post – “How to lose riders and confuse the F*#k outta everybody”.

As a lead rider I think I do a good job. As a leader of nav newbies……I did a rubbish job  . Sorry to my team for any misadventures you had.

Yep, I managed to lose ALL of my group by the end of Day 1. Kinda funny really  :pinch: .

Anyway Day 1 started out like this.

We all made a great start out of Wauchope and the pace was nice, however somewhere at about hour 2 we managed to lose Gregyver  …..yep my own boyfriend got misplaced from the group :S .

We searched and back tracked but to no avail :( . Thankfully the sweeps picked him up and returned him to me at the ferry crossing  .
At first I thought he had managed to get in front of us, but as the trail went on it became clear he wasn’t in front and we had left him behind.

Thankfully I knew Greg can well and truly take care of himself and he is all over GPS Navigation.

    P1000958.jpg

    P1000960.jpg

Then when we got to the lunch stop our slowish pace meant we needed to skip a section
TB asked Mick D to lead us on the black top around a section of the course and join back in a while later. With (what we thought :pinch: ) was everybody ready to roll we turned left out of the servo (off course) and roared off. Little did we realise Wiggster and Trailraider we still getting prepped and we left them there. Sorry Guys!!

Then Usi got caught at some lights and lost us. We had managed to stop just around the corner, but the damage was done. I had lost 3 outta the four riders. We then back tracked to look for everybody but they had returned to the purple line and were out on the part of the track we were skipping.

That left Greg and me with Mick leading us. We managed to be the first to get to Wolfie waiting on the corner. With nothing left to do but push on we hit the tracks, and what amazing tracks they were, pure adventure bike territory!! :silly:

When we got to the lookout we were greeted by TB and the King. Thankfully he let me know he had sent messages to Wiggster, Trail Raider and Usi to short cut straight to Bucca.

The afternoon was spent in amazing trails having a great time riding.

Who need tricky GPS Mounts – just zip tie it to the breakline

    Day Two

WHAT A DAY…….TB where do you find these tracks and trails??????
The day started with sunshine, a great view, and Macca’s coffee!!!

This day it was only Greg and me on the trails together. We started the day slow with coffee and hotcakes, then slowly got out on the trails…oops behind the sweeps….sorry guys. But we soon caught up and made our way into the middle of the pack.

Jacobs Ladder!!!!!! TB warned us and gave us all the information we needed but OMG was it steep. Do-able , but steep. What a great opportunity to try something that required us to pull together all the skills we have as adventure riders. On my own I probably would have chickened out of it, but because it was on route and I know TB would ask us to do something ridiculous, so over the top I rolled.
What a ride!! After a small freakout ž the way down, I kept going and when I got to the bottom, I realised I just gained a whole lot of confidence and new abilities!!

Feeling full of the joy of life we ripped along the trails (past a very happy group of cows) and got to lunch. At this stage we had made up for our late start and got going before the sweeps even got to the lunch stop at Freddos.
But then after fuel we took a serious wrong turn and ended up 20km off course. A 40 minute return trip meant we were again very behind. So with the day getting on and a bit of Monkey butt setting in we shortened the afternoon and cut of the final staged to get back to Wauchope at a reasonable hour.
Bikes on the trailer and the long drive home with great memories and another sense of achievement.

    Thanks again!!!

That filter is filthy mate. How long since it was changed?

    Hi Ace,

I fitted a Uni Filter to my 800 and haven’t looked back. I have checked on the air filter a few times since and the pre filters do all the work, nothing seems to get to the main filter.

For the record you will need to trim the air intake tubes where the pre filters go on to. I was rather apprehensive about cutting the tubes, but it’s the only way and it’s really no biggy in the end.

Go with the Uni Filter, you want look back, they are great!!!

    FF

Thanks Amy, I’ll prioritise them on the very long and growing list of needs and wants. :S

Did you replace the paper filter with the foam uni filter as well or just add the pre filter?

    Hi Ace,

Yep I replaced the paper filter with the foam Uni filter…I purchased mine as a package, not just the pre filter.

I haven’t notice any discernible drop in power.

    Cheers,

We will have three Motul Packs to give away and another Yamaha care package like Lefty received last ride.

    Hi All,

    Flying Fish’s Navigational Newbies

Thanks for the intro TB – That’s right I will be happy to help out anyone who may not be all that confident in the dark art of GPS navigation.

If you happen to see me following a GPS map  , I can show you how to effectively use your GPS so you feel confident to do it on your own by the end of the weekend. Also for anybody who is new to these style adventure rides we can give you some tips and tricks so you don’t feel so daunted by the whole experience.

I plan to ride at a fairly relaxed pace, but to get around the course before dark I know I will have to keep moving. As much as I love a Latte` stop or two I know that the maps TB shares with us need a dedicated approach. That is not to say that I won’t be stopping for the occasional photos opp or Snickers Break  .

Just to be clear, I am not acting as an official lead rider for this group (it is not an organised ride) and I am not responsible for your riding and actions, but for anybody that decides to follow me and ask questions on GPS navigation feel free.

    Cheers,
    Flying Fish.

    Hi Pete,

I have a neck brace and a Scala and unfortunately what you say is true they don’t work brilliantly together.
I have just gotten use to it and for the safety of the neck brace and having the Scala I just put up with it. For me it’s not too bad, but it did take a bit of getting use to.

Like I always say, it’s not as bad as getting use to wearing a bra. I’m sure if we strap one of them to you, you will soon forget about the neck brace/Scala issue. 😆 😆

I might have a slightly longer or skinnier neck than you which might make the difference for being able to wear it. After all I would never part with either………imagine a ride with you and TB where we were not able to talk the amount of sh%t we do. Actually, now I come to think of it………..
    Only Jok’in.

Sorry I don’t have the answer, just random comments, but hope it helps.

My suggestion is to buy a bra……..make sure it’s sport bra with lots of uncomfortable underwire and makes you feel like you are wearing “Zene Princes Warrior’s” metal chest piece. Then fill it with a couple of oranges so it’s a full D cup and wear it for a few days…….trust me you will forget about the other problem. 😆 😆 😆

Sorry I did get a look at this earlier but I have been a little out of commission and also busy at work.

I cant wait to see the rest.

Mr Squiqqle, for the record the girly aspects of it is exactly what I wanted. We can have a D and M at the next ride and talk about feelings n stuff.

Been playing with the new brace / pressure suit this arvo, struggling a little to get it right and all working together with the jersey, camelback etc.

    More playing required.

I think i have it close, skin top, then pressure suit, jersey then brace and camelback.

I will need to get used to the restricted head movement, but its for the best

    Hi Trailraider and James,

I have changed the way I wear mine a few times and both work but the latter is a little more comfortable on cold days.

Firstly I would have a shirt (skins top or thermal or just tee shirt), then pressure suit- I would put the front inside the pressure suit and the thorax section on the outside BUT slip in under the back armour, then jacket over the top and camelbak over the top with the chest brace over the front to hold it all down. This worked well but my jacket was a little open at the front and let cold air in.
So I recently tried having the front section on the outside of my adv jacket, this also works really well, I still have the thorax section under my amour. Each to their own and what works will be the best for you.

I purchased mine on Torpedo 7 back when they were $400……….still VERY cheap insurance.

At first I found it a little restrictive…..but I figured it was less restrictive than a wheelchair.

My final point for any of the guys who whinge about it being difficult and restrictive to wear……….try learning to wear a bra…………at first it is tight, uncomfortable and restrictive. BUT ultimate it is for the best and after a while you forget you are wearing it!! 😆 😆

Ahhh the neck brace debate again.

Its great to see that it’s all possitive this time.

For the record I think they are the cheapest form of insurance money can buy. I dont ride without mine. I have had it for almost 3 years and Im supprised at how slow the take up of them really is.

I cant say for sure, but I think mine save me a bit when I hit the deck a few weeks ago. The important thing is that I don’t know……so it probably did its job. I cant help but think that I would have been fully knocked out if I didnt have it on.

    Old girl….get one!!!
