You F$&%$$% trader. You even think about dealing with those mongrels and I will never speak to you again. If you want a beemer let me know and i will get you in contact with a decent dealer. If you ride it make sure you crash it and destroy everything on it (not that I am bitter or anything)

I agree TB taking it to far will only compromise reliability that is why i am concerned about the 300cc kit, but i have only heard good reports. I will have to call kwaka tech guys and see what they reckon. The 250 really appeals as the are so cheap and cheap rego too, but i want something that is going to be good for long hauls as well. e.g. i am keen to do some two or three day runs up my way. and when i say two or three days i do not mean loops, i mean heading in one direction for two days then getting picked up by car, you would not believe the size of the riding area i have, it is overwhelming.

What sort of mileage do you get out of 1ltrs. You guys have got me thinking twice about a 450 now, I am starting to think a kitted 250 might be the go, cheaper rego to. Arr decisions decisions.

Mekon- Your avatar looks like an alien taking a crap. Dont let these guys get to ya, everone seems to cop it on this site, all in good fun though. Great see you got a KLX450R. I have just started working for a Kwaka dealer and am going to swap my trusty CRF250X for a KLX450R. Keep me posted as to what you think of the bike if possible. Maybe post a ride evaluation???

Better clarify what i stated earlier,
with a capacitor they will start with a kick starter, obviously would need to be a huge capacitor to enable a starter motor, this is how i understand the MXers operate capacitor & kick and they need to be started in a hurry when they go down, look at a video of Bubba when it happens, one kick and he’s gooooone. Now as an aside isn’t it funny (not in a haha haha sorta way either) how they get all the technology first, Ala KTM all the new stuff goes on the SXs before EXCs, although Gas gas has had it for quite a while now on the 450.

You do not get warranty on a MX bike that is why new technolgy is nearly always released on them first, less risk for the manufacturer, also they are pure breed race machines with only one purpose, therefore you would expect them to have the latest technology.

I teach diesels and electrics its sort of the same, to further Fossils last post, yes regarding the fuel pump, but a check valve would hold a head of pressure for the FI unit for very short period of time, maybe enough to start and then the alternator would supply the fuel pump yeah?

Yes i think thats how it works, all the MXers are running a kick start only and no batteries. I have read a lot of technical blurb about it but most of it went over my head.

A flat battery holds as much charge as a capacitor with no charge! I’d be happy if they were fitting them with kickers (somehow) but until then I’m not sold on the idea. I like the idea of tuning through a laptop tough and no jets.

Having said all that, when I owned a honda I frowned upon electric starts…then I got one.

I wonder if the same will hold true if I ever get a FI bike???

It depends on the electrical set up, if the power to the CDI comes from the battery they will not run with a dead battery as it will take current out of the system ( most jap bikes are like this)but if the CDI runs from seperate from the battery ( i am fairly sure the KTMs are set up like this) it will still run fine with a dead battery. This is my ideas only so please correct me if i am wrong i am certianly not a mechanic i just sell the bloody things.

FI should of and could of been on dirt bikes ten years ago, it is just a matter of economics for the manufactures they need to juice as much money out of technology before they introduce new ones as they spend considerable amounts of $ on R & D. We do not think twice about electric start now but 10 years ago people where uming and aring whether it would be any good or not.

Hey old boy i cant make sat morning due to work but that may change so i am a possability. I got one to get TB going a Rod and Ride day. Went for a run around Maria River Nat. Park Yesterday on the trusty little XR,it is funny i have more fun riding it than my CRF, i think when i am on the CRF i feel some pressure to perform as with the XR i just relax and hoot around like a gumby and love it. Anyways found some good trails and what i think might some good fishing spots (not that i know shit about fishing). I am fairly confident i can get throught to point plumber now. The trails are fairly open but not well kept, i found a fab run of 3-4ks of single track looked like it had been used as a race track at some stage but had not seen a bike on it for a while i think. Am thinking of running a bush to beach day so will keep you informed.
