Glad you didn’t call me old as well, I’ll be back, don’t know about the PE though.

    Great report Murph.
I enjoyed the little I did, the single trails are new experience for me, my dirt experience is very different and the power band of the PE does not suit that type of riding.
Located a problem with the PE, front forks had no pressure which made it dive all the time.
Broke a clutch lever bracket on the way back so finished with no clutch.
As the famous old prayer goes ” Age shall not weary them”, well I’m afraid it’s wearied me. :(
I think I’ll stick with the grade 3 runs and maybe a little adventure touring.
I was great to meet you all and I look forward to seeing you again out on the (easier) trails.
    Cheers. :)

Good luck with the Lotus thingy.
Outboards have solved all the problems already and use an oil feed pump with multiple lines to various bearings and sprays onto cylinder walls.
These things produce up to 350HP regularly and meet current emissions regs.
They use a direct injection oil , thinner than normal 2T and usually synthetic.
Ralph Sarich experimented with direct injected 2T many years ago and it is to him we owe the DI technology.
However they also run an air pump to assist with atomisation from the injector, not sure why.

Hi guys I’m finally back, no I didn’t die of old age, but had to move house on short notice.
Both the PE and Xl; are now registered and ready to go.
Looking for rides/ partners on or around the Central Coast & Hunter.
Grade 3/4 might be good start for some sea trials.
    Any takers?
    Cheers.

Been seein this same S**T since the 70s when we first went into the bush on bikes, nothing changes with the PRIC*S in Canberra or Sydney.
I was a founding member of the AMTRA in the mid 70s and we were discussing this same issue then.
I did both a submission and the Save the Bush Petition.
    Can’t hurt.
Get all your friends to sign and submit, no matter what there into!

    Problem solved :cheer:
    At last;
I now have both the XL and the PE ready for rego, just got to save the pennies and we’re on our way.
I now run a 12 volt head lamp and a 6volt 55W driving lamp on the Xl It’s all working great.
I’ve fitted a TrailTech dash, LED numberplate lamp & indicators (6 volt) to the PE.
I fitted 6volt LED indicators (made’m all m’self) & stop tail to the XL as well.
Will upload new pic’s in the next few days of the finished bikes.

Thanks for all the input guys, I have a good Clymer manual with the diagram, these bikes run AC to the headlight and a 12 Volt bulb as it turns out.

The regulator/rectifier in the circuit does not affect the direct suppy to the headlamp, it charges the battery and runs everything else.

But there seems to be no explanation for the increase in voltage over time. Even when rectified, which I did with a bridge rectifier, the voltage is still above 35 VDC.

The one success I have had to date, is to connect this rectified current back to the pos on the battery, in parallel with the headlamp, the voltage stabilises at 12 volts @ the headlamp and 7.5 volts @ the battery
I think that the battery is acting as a damper as well as providing backpressure against the higher voltage.
This actually works, I have run a 55w driving lamp as well as the bulb AWESOME Light, hope it doesn’t turn into a Roman Candle!!!???

I think only an electrical engineer could explain that?

I am going to test & finalise tommorrow and I’ll let you know the outcome.
