Can offer an alternative loop if you’re up for it Gaz. Better riding and less blacktop. I’m up for a Saturday ride.

Cool Ecks, how about around 10:00am?

I was gonna head Uungula and Guroba but very willing to look elsewhere, as long as it is DR friendly where that DR is ridden by a fat, no talent, pathetic and unfit fat bastard (me)

Will PM my phone number as well

Ended up not going White, woke up and felt absolutely as if a truck had run over me, then reversed back over me and finally drove forward again.

    Gonna go Saturday instead

Awesome Wolfie, and a big congratulations for all involved from your daughter, family, the shearer , the family of the little girl and the girl herself as it is never good to see kids suffer or be considered freaks when, they are actually normal kids.

No doubt there has been tears shed by you and family as you realise the enormity of just what it is you are doing and for that I say again, bloody awesome and good on you all.

I would offer you beers or some other sustenance, but as with the earlier post about the thank you button, no amount of kudos, pat on the backs or outright beers can repay or even come close to the thrills you and all are receiving for making that kid happy.

    Awesome

Got to say that I have at times been closer to the black dog than I would like as 9 months unemployment, followed by a number of years as a contract employee led me to an uncertain future before landing a full time job 18 months ago. Even though the job was fulltime it was a move of near 500 kms to a new area where we knew nobody and yes, it meant a lot of dark days and times while we questioned whether the move was the right thing or not (particularly when my wife got retrenched).

Those thoughts continue as I have now moved to another job (and my wife keeps looking for work …. Dubvegas does not seem to like 50 year olds to well) and so am going through the ‘probationary period’ all over again, together with it’s many ‘what if’ moments but at the end thing will be far better for me as the security is greater. Until then though the nerves will be there, just as they are for everyone.

But Ecks, all I can offer is to say that I will keep you in mind and put your name out there to anyone I hear of that may want the services of a surveyor, and where possible I will even try to ‘shop you around’ with the old ‘I have a mate that can do that’ type of stuff.

And I know we have never met but if you want to head out for a ride locally (I need the more ADV type of stuff ………….. what with the DR landbarge and all), I am happy to take the 20 minute ride down the road (I am your side of Dubvegas) and fill up your tank and then spend a few hours cruising the local backroads if you ever want or need ………….. the offer is always there if you don’t mind a small fat slow bastard riding in the roost

To all who have experienced the black fog or are experiencing it ………… please talk to people and seek whatever help you need as it sadly claims far to many good people

Yeah Jnr we did that for a reason a few years ago

    Maybe we should undo it?

Mods your thoughts, maybe PM me?

TB, just for what it is worth I would suggest leaving the ride gatherings and the reports forums hidden as a minimum but maybe changing the description to ‘Sign in to see our rides’, or posting something along those lines somewhere on the ‘free’ site’.

The reason why I usggest this is that I was once a looooong time back a moderator of a road bike forum in the Illawarra region and we used to have an ‘open’ forum. It wasn’t long before we started to get some very unwanted attention, both from police who were aware of a ride gathering and thus would turn up to ‘inspect’ the bikes or the roads on which we were to ride, or more of an issue was the mindless toolset that would turn up, behave like total wankers and ruin it for everyone.

We quickly decided to ‘close’ the ride and report forums from public display and whilst occasionally we still had police appear on the roads we were to ride, we totally stopped the toolset from turning up.

From our view the were not an issue if all was legal as if we had an unlicensed or unregistered rider with us, they were soon weeded out (remembering this is road riding) and did not cause us issues (two many unlicensed road riders around)

For dirt it may not be as big an issue but by hiding the forum and organisation you do stop the mindless toolset from possibly appearing and ruining your ride.

    My thoughts anyway

EDIT. Teza’s idea is a good one.

Perhaps a calendar on the left that indicates a ride is occuring near (as an example) Wauchope, with a link to sign in to view full details

It is wrong but hell yeah I would have laughed (and have done a few times at just that).

As for distance, I used to work near City Coast Yamaha in Wollongong and one new R1 did not get across the road before highsiding ………….. to much right wrist which we all say was to strong as this guy was right handed and a real Wayne Kerr type.. :)

    Shane,

    – The GoPro one was in Victoria and was a thread in ADVRider from memory although I cannot fully recall the outcome.

    – The hand off the handlebars is an interesting one as from reports the guy in Qld clearly got fined but in NSW the road rules stipulate that a rider must have one hand on the handlebars at all times, ergo then he/she can have one hand off the handlebar. But in saying that I was stopped and chatted a number of years back by a copper who stopped me after I removed one hand to signal/ask him if I should turn around at a road stop (the copper was parked across the road so I assumed road closed – it was and then signalled). The copper made a point of stating ‘next time I will do you mate, never take both hands of the bars as we are sick of picking you jokers up’ (this occurred at the base of Macquarie Pass on the weekend of a bike fatality so let him have his frustration). I did check it with the MCC (was a delegate there at the time) and was told BS, one hand only required (else some one armed riders could not legally ride)

    – The foot of the pegs did happen as you say but from follow up media there is more to happen as the Police Commissioner stated that he did remove a foot when riding his bike, and the day after a picture was published of a police officer doing the same. That one seems to be an asshole or overzealous power tripper who needed to up his quota (same as the guy that booked the car window open)

All sounds fair and when you look at similar types of business they all incur a cost and it is only fair that the cost be passed to those taking up the service.

Definitely have an interest in the riding skills side but a question as to whether there is safety and/or mechanical training involved. Nothing specific of course but more the type of situation that may arise on the average ride (ie. chain breakage, puncture repair etc) along with basics of GPS/EPIRB and the ‘do not move’ type of stuff.

Not trying to over complicate in any way and fully suspect that puncture repair etc will occur on the rides but just thought to ask

Nice one gaz. Lucky you found that plate. The RTA doesn’t deserve another $42 for a new one.

Hell yeah, agreed and the shit fight of getting a plate to replace it meant I would have had to raise a police report, case number etc then present it to the RTA/RMS or whatever they are now called.

Mind you, we got lucky in finding it as it was face down and we were driving along nice and slow looking off to the side (only slow though, around 20 or so kph), when we heard us drive over metal checked the mirror in time to see a flick of yellow. Turns out we had turned it over by running over it so bloody lucky ………… and it had fallen off on the sealed stuff so it isn’t like the dirt caused it 😆

ps. If you are interested in that other place just drop a line

Hey Gaz if you find some state forest in your travels around let us know. Riding areas are thin for us forest dwelling folk in these parts.

Axel, there is or at least looks to be a fair bit of forests around but mainly national park from what I can tell, but going for an explore on Friday so will see what crops up.

Used to ride with a guy who did have a Ullysses and once he could not go anywhere near the placed that my Weestrom could, not to mention that on anything resembling ruts etc he struggled big time.

He did try to find suitable tyres but could not so ended up selling it and getting a g450, which he crashed more often than we care to recall

To this day I remember him describing the Buell as the worst bike he had ridden.

No idea of how your mate rides or his ability, but this guy was relatively new to dirt after a great number of years away (the family no bike thing)

My current one doesn”t smoke but it is only 2000 kays old, the previous model though smoked on cold starts all the time but that said, it was not excessive smoke by any means and barely noticed.

Mind you, I have seen a number that smoke quite heavily and did have a VStrom that used to do it on cold starts when left on the side stand.

    Not much help, sorry

Does making the bike bloody dirty and muddy count as doing something?

Bought so much mud home with me I am gonna use it to fill a few holes in the backyard. 😆

Damn it, to sore so will get the pressure blaster out tomorrow.
