Thanks mate. I will see how it goes before I head out there. If the clearences close up over the first few hours I will look at getting the head done. I intend on putting a few hours on it between now and finke.

    Hi Gibbit,
Just a word of caution. I noticed that you said one of the exhaust valves was leaking and you sealed it by using a bit of grinding paste. As I am a race engine builder with many years of experience with late model Yamaha cylinder heads using titanium valves. Assuming you are using the standard titanium valves they should never be lapped in using grinding paste as this wears through the hardened coating on the valve sealing face and causes premature inevitable loss of valve clearance. The best solution is to replace the valves with brand new ones and check for no valve seat wear.
Just some advice for you, however the choice is yours. Good luck with the rebuild.

    Cheers,
    Lefty ;)

Thanks for the advice mate. I have heard that before. I checked the valve was leaking by pouring a bit of petrol in there to confirm the leak. The valves where only about 15 hours old so I pulled that valve out and just gave it a bit of a 15 second rub with some paste by hand. That is all. I put it back in and checked it with petrol again and it sealed.

Do you think I may have done damage to the valves doing such a small amount of grinding?

I guess I wil find out next time I check my valve clearances.

Time to make the bike a bit more bullet proof.

The suspension is currently in Mildura getting tweaked by Warren Smart.

Can see I had a leaking Exhaust valve. I fixed that with a bit of a rub with grinding paste.

The piston and rings are being replaced.

I have ran the same set of Bridgstone UHD tubes in my YZ450 for 80hrs. I have been through 2 front tyres and three back tyres. I have done mainly single track (rocks, logs ect)with some MX and also hattah desert race. I use talc powder and not a single flat. Need I say more. ;)

    I’m coming.
    Two questions Chris.

    1. How do we get there from Gundy?

    2. Do we have to pay the $10 membership fee if we are already a member of one of the other host clubs? I was under the usumption that we only had to join one so we joined at the first one we did which was Narrabri. Not that it really matters as it’s only 10 bucks.

Great write up mate. I will look forward to seeing a few pics.

Thanks for the compliment I think Revthemonkey had a bit to do with setting up the enduro X track so well donr to him too. I thought the weekend went pretty smoothly. It’s a shame they closed it down early on Saturday. They could have done with a few more toilets too.

I had a great weekend as a sweep. I did around 320km as well(three 87km and two 30km loops). Bit sore this morning

Yeah the Nixons said it was a little tame. But I’m sure it will still create a few spills. Hopfully the flood lights hold up as they have had trouble in the past.

I’ll be there around 7am saturday as I’m going out first to open the gates.

I went out and rode more of the track last weekend. There were some really hard parts that most riders couldn’t get though so we made easy/hard ways in these spots. There should be something for everyone.
I will go back out again friday for one more final loop and I will be a sweeper over the weekend.

There is a ‘stop and play’ spot on both the 80km and 30km loops. One is an MX track and the other is an old quarry with some near vertical walls.

    Should be alot of fun.

You will be able to sign up on both friday night or saturday morning.

If you see a white 2011 YZ450F with #604 on it come and say G’Day.
