A few bits and peices have turned up. :woohoo:

    P1010942.jpg

I have already swapped the Fox sport jacket (pictured above) for another Titan Airframe as it isn’t compatable with my Leatt although many people said it was. The back peice also hangs down on your bum which means you either tuck it into your pants with your jersey (very uncomfortable) or wear it over your jersey, which I didn’t want to do.
I will fit the new tyres, race numbers and sponsors stickers just before I leave so the bike looks its best on scrutineering night.

I have sent my suspension to Warren Smart for him to work his magic. Many people strongly recomended that this be done and that I would be a compleat idiot for trying to do Hattah with standard suspension.
I still have a fair bit to do to the bike but I am getting though that now as there is not much riding being done with no forks or shock on it.

I booked accomadation today. Motels and caravan parks are starting to fill quickly now as ‘Hattah’ is less than 4 weeks away. I will drive to Mildura a few days before the event to get some practice in and to do any final adjustments to the suspension.

My wifes due date is less than 2 weeks away so the focus is going away from Hattah and more towards her at present but training is going well.

Cut the leg out of your missus old stockings and use it as a cheap filter skin (make sure you wash them first).

It was a good day yesterday. It was a bit dusty for the first lap but once we spread out it was good. L-Plate hill got pretty chopped up towards the end. (I went the easy way for the last two laps.)

    Well done to all involved.

Great write-up mate. I would love to get hold of one of these bikes and I will if I can ever work out how to afford two bikes. I can’t think of anything better than gearing up and heading west on a Tenere. (Except holding an MX bike pinned in top gear through the desert, but this will change in a few years)
I intend to get one one day but not just yet. But when I do i will certainly be re-reading your updates to get the good stuff.

    Cheers.

With about 7 weeks to go I thought I would give a bit of an update on how preparation is going.

Fitness training is going well. The bit of a beer gut that I have been growing over the past 15 or so years is nearly gone and a six pack is starting to take shape. I’m feeling better on the bike and feel pretty good after a 15 min moto at the local MX club practice days. I have been riding a bit of sand but still need to pick up the pace a bit more yet.

As many of you would know with a morgage, two kids and a wife thats 7 months pregnant, the finances are quite low. I spent most of the easter break out west of Bourke mustering Feral Goats on a property that my old’s caretake.. The money I got for them has eased the burden a little. I can now get a few bits I need for the bike.

I ordered my race numbers last night from Ringmaster Images (#604). I would have liked to get pre printed back grounds like the pros but individual numbers will have to do. I will put them on just prior to scrutineering.

I already fitted Bark Busters and a Force Bash plate a few months ago.

The MSC steering damper has been fitted. It is the old one off my 09 YZ. With a few alterations I have got it to fit the 2011 YZ. I just hope it dosen’t fall off. If it dosen’t work I wil just have to but a new mount kit from MSC.

I have fitted Steg Pegz and they work a treat. They are great when standing up which I feel I will be doing alot of at Hattah.

I will be making an order soon for a set of Dunlop Geomax MX51, two pair of goggles, new chain and sprockets, a Fox Titan Sport Jacket (the old air-frame is 10 yr old and stuffed) and a few other odds and ends.

I will also grease the swingarm linkages and replace the fork seals/oil before I go.

    Watch this space!!

My boy was 3 when he started on the PW with training wheels. He is now 5 and already broken his collar bone on the mx track.
My daughter is 2 1/2 and will be on it as soon as I put the trainer wheels back on.

I’m doing club enduro’s but only Pony Express.

Finke is on my list for next year. It was supposed to be this year but I can’t make it due to family matters so I figured I would have a go at Hattah this year instead.

IMHO can’t see what all the hype of Hattah is about. Will never go back there, heaps of better races elsewhere that are enjoyable

What sort of races are you talking about?

I guess everyone likes different terrain. I like sand but then I may have your same opinon by the end of the race. But I won’t know unless I go!

Thanks fellers. Some good info there.

I have a resonable practice track which is an old sand quarry so almost raw sand. I might hit that a bit more than fitness training.

I am only running the standard tank (6.2L) so I will refuel each lap. It will make me lose time but at least I won’t run the risk of running out.

I am hoping to get there the week before and my cousin from Mildura knows Smarty resonably well, so he is trying to set me up with a practice run with him. Hopefully that will sort my gearing out. I will take a few combinations with me to try.

I will take two pair of goggles with me. A set of Roll Offs for when I’m in the thick of it (Prolouge and the first lap) an another pair to swap between each refuel.

Good idea with the costs. Haven’t been finalised for next year but will be similar to this year.

    Pre enter $25
    Enter on the Day $45
    Club membership $30
Club membership if already a member of one of the clubs in the series $10
    One day racing licence $50

A bit of an explanation on all that

    1. To pre-enter just fax in entry form before race and pay the reduced rate on the day. Don’t need to send money to pre enter.

    2. All races are what’s called club race days. This means to comply with MNSW rules and insurance you have to be a member of the host club to compete. To save riders a bit of money here once you are a member of one of the clubs then you pay a reduced membership rate at the remaining races. (eg say your from Sydney and your first race is Uralla you pay $30 membership there and then your next race is Moree you would pay $10 membership there)

    3. Just to confuse the issue even more there are 3 clubs that hold two rounds. If you are a full member of a club (have paid the $30) then you pay no membership cost at the second race that they host. (eg if you pay $30 membership at Uralla you pay no membership fees at Upper Horton).

    4. Depending on how many races you plan on doing there a few ways to og with membership. Genarally the cheapest option is pay $30 at the first one you turn up to an then $10 per race after that. Just make sure you don’t pay at the second round held by the club you are a full member of.

    5. The MNSW one day race licence is not your RTA bike licence. It is effectively your insurance for racing. The insurance is pretty poor I think. You pretty much have to be borderline dead to get any money and even then it is only around $250/week for a limited time. Don’t hold me to that but that’s my understanding. The other option if you plan on doing heaps of racing (MX or enduro) is to get an annual licence from MNSW. It costs around $285/year. So it’s $50/race or $285/year whatever is cheapest for the number of races you do. The annual licence also saves a lot of time at sign on.

Hope I haven’t confused you too much. IT sounds complicated but once you have been to a race it is pretty simple.

Hey Bundy! Just wondering where we can get a copy of Pre-entry forms and where do we fax them to?
