February 24, 2011 at 6:38 pm in reply to: what to take on rides and what do the organisers provide? #197233Sorry beemer, but I disagree, i’m not responsible for anyone else on a ride except myself.
I will help out whenever needed, I carry some firstaid equipment in case of an injury, but if you come for a ride with me you do so at your own risk, that way you are responsible for you own actions. I am simply going for a ride and if you come you are choosing to do so-I am not making you do it. As such we are not organising a rides, we are letting other riders know that we are going riding at a given time, place and you can join us if you wish. The extent of my responsibility is information on when the ride is going to happen and where.
The grading system is a guide only to help people make an informed decision, but once riding, things and terrain change and effectively the grading system can go out the window, it is then the sole responsibility of the rider to choose to continue or not to continue.chers Hatto
I’ll do another south coast ride mallee, as long as you bring that cake along:lol:

A backpack/bumbag with tools is essential, having an xt means that not many people riding with you will have spares for it, so you need to be able to get yourself out of trouble. Tubes and levers etc for flat tyres should be carried by everyone, usually a front tyre tube will fit in the back as well so just carry a front tube. On OBT rides, they are just mates riding in the bush- no one is getting paid, it is not the responsability of the leader/organiser to supply you with anything. The leader usually knows where the ride is going to go and how to get back, usually knows the terrain and knows bailouts if problems arise. You just need to be as self sufficient as much as you can. There are plenty of threads about what tools to carry on a ride, do a search and get some ideas.cheers Hatto
Happy birthday Kat, I’m glad you went to work-you can’t have all the fun

Hi Unit
Sorry for the delay, but to change mine over was very simple 1 hr max, it really is simple-just need to be clean.Tools we used.
Rattle gun, 19mm, 17mm, special fork seal tool-but easily make your own, rags, oil, seals, something to remove spring clip inside tube.
I had a mate show me how but this link is exactly how we did it.http://www.dirtbikeworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=16751

Horses usually go through jurassic Park, and then down through the horse track.
Yes, and fuel but if in a big group ring ahead-lesson learned.

It was probably the hardest, most technical 3 12 hrs hours of riding I have ever done, and given the choice of doing that kind of ride or the easy way home, I wouldve opted for the easier ride.
They said it would be grade 3, was easily grade 4 or 4+That type of grade will take a few years to get good at, you dont just turn up and take it on.
I wasn’t sure where they were going to take you on the return leg Riggs, and I hope it didn’t spook you for the future, I’m sure it wasn’t their intention, at least there was plenty of help and everybody got back in one piece.
The positive is that you did make it through and now you know you can. It’s not a bout doing it super fast, it’s about having a go and completing it when you thought you couldn’t.hatto
LC4skin wrote:Lucky, last time I went down there with Hatto he went over the bars on the way down and slid down on his back like he was on a bobsled, my brother went over the bars there as well, its pretty steep and rocky.I think your talking about peppers gap, not sure I’ve been on the horse track with you yet LC, but we can change that
