cheers Teza.1 litre bottle in backpack, ride 10km and empty into tank, not carrying extra weight for too long then

Happy to try different places, we have been to bulladelah for the last 4 years, so thought about a change, cost- well normal tour costs are what we do – it’s a five day trip with 2 days ride and something else or 3 days ride. We had planned 2days ride and 1 days fishing with coffs coast tours, but thats not gunna happen now.
what do you have in mind

I have heard good things about the Coffs Detour in particular the Coffs to Brooms head ride. I think Boris covers some of the trails we did on the Coffs ride in November.Nick
Thanks Nick, are there any others up that way, we were looking at coffscoast tours but he has pulled the pin, we were planning on going in may, so we are sort of left in the lurch a bit

Quote:In our pony express we find that for 100 bikes+ (so around 60 on the track at any one time) you need 20km minimum to keep it safe/enjoyable and even then it is hell if dusty. Most of our tracks are around 25km and they deteriorate considerably over the 4 hours. We don’t so much get ruts except when wet or in the sand but more braking/accelarating bumps, deep dust powder. It gets bloody hard on the body with bumps in 4 hours so a shorter track for longer means worse track conditions. The soil down there may be better and hold up better. Heffo knows bikes, racing and the area so I would be surprised if it really went to the pack as it sounds like an event they are trying to get the average punter involved in.
The ground and area is supreme, will be held where 400 bikes do the apex rides, we did the south loop of the apex last, after 250-300 bikes had been through and tracks were still great, but was a 60km loop- pretty sure heffo will have it sussed.
Personally I prefer longer laps. More time to get your rhythm and a longer break between laps. You get a better rest and more chance of getting any repairs down before you really piss your partner off by making him do another lap.
Can do more than 1 loop if you want before changing
I will put the feelers out at a bbq on Sat, could be a south coast orange team or 2

Education has to be part of the process both riders and others along with available riding areas.
In my area I can only really take kids to the track for their riding, there are plenty of very good riders who go very fast on the track, but put them in the bush and they only have the skills to ride fast. When obstacles are put in front of them they are going too fast and accidents/offs occur and here lies the problem, you cant take kids out into the bush and teach them those skills so after spending years at the track and then getting their license, out into the bush they go, out of control and not knowing what to do.To be able to takes kids out in the bush and teach them “bush riding skills” is imo what is required. If the new generation of riders get the education, than we are on our way to a better outcome for all.
Head on are a prime example, what skills can you learn at the track for this situation, when all riders are going in the same direction, taking up the entire track and not having to think about oncoming traffic.
This was something as an adult rider I never thought about(because I was always at the back or mid pack), but once I started to lead rides, it became very clear in a very short time that people can come from the other direction and that if you aren’t prepared, it’s too late.
When a kid has not had to think about that situation for many years,(track riding) their track habits are second nature and very hard to break.
I’m not very good at putting into words what I am trying to say, but I hope you get my drift.

Quote:I finally parted with the old KLX and got my hands on a 05 KTM450, I am wondering what sort of problems / nuances people have found over the years with them and what I can do to make her a little more bullet proof?Cheers
Have an 07, change oil every 500kms, all filters 2 x filters(change) 2 x screens(clean) every 2nd change, cooling system 1 x year(flush). 8000km still going strong.
Bottom pivot joint 1 x year, valve adjustment every 1500km (15 min job)- have heard about new cam chain tensioner being a must for earlier models ($150.00)
The rattle noise is std, when mine goes a little quiet, thats when i adjust the valves, no problems so far.
Get used to looking behind you, thats where the hondas will be   :laugh:cheers Hatto

Quote:So do all the experienced guys out there think this worth the $$ for the modification to a hydraulic clutch?Hi Krusty
The one I put on my young fellas is a cheap chinese thing like in the photos above-they are not great quality but they do work-cheap.
The mate that put it onto his husky 2 banger has had no issues so far-he does abuse the clutch, but it is a 2banger. The way I look at it- it cost me $40 aussie to get it to my door, my son can now reach his clutch(which he couldn’t before) and can now start to learn the art of clutch usage(fan etc)It is easier for him to pull etc, so a win win situation.
If it breaks or he drops and breaks it, I would invest in another in a heart beat.
I had no issues with the chinese company I bought it from, promt and is what they said it was.cheers Hatto

Quote:Ta Hatto, by any chance you wouldn’t be able to get a couple of photos would you?, I’d love to do this on the young blokes bikes (and maybe his old mans as well) I would be very chuffed if it could be done, just need to see an existing setup to go on
I had thought of something like this but was unsure of which bits to buy>BC
Update:
Have done this mod to my young blokes klx125 and it works a treat, he loves it, it now suits his hand size, very cheep and successful mod. Only thing I had to do was make a little adaptor for the end at the clutch engine end and all good-took about 25 mins go to whoa
cheers HattoSorry Bob for late reply
