Didn’t take it for a ride due to inclement weather
Also changed rear wheel bearings, rear brake pads, front wheel bearings, front brake pads and dropped the LH fork leg ready to replace another bloody seal.
Will check v/v clearances and might even treat the old girl to a new plug.
Hope all will be well for the Coffs trip

MurphThats all good Murph but what about the clutch?? Could be worth laying it on its side and removing the side cover, checking the basket fingers for grooving and the plates. Something isnt allowing them the disengage be it lack of slave piston travel or mechanical
TB
Yeah, something isn’t right, mines the same, maybe not as bad – (when are you doing mine Tb, clutch, swing arm bearings, steering stem bearings, leaking rhs fork seal, counter shaft seal, heim joint -come to think of it, how long have you got holidays at christmas   )

Couldn’t open the link, must be secret KTM business or something. I’ve had this 525 from new and yes it has always had a bit of “clutch drag” but it has just gotten a lot worse over the last couple of rides.
Bundyroy
My name should be Turkeyroy, not many of us Roy’s out there.
Would of thought with air in the system it would not engage the clutch fully giving it the severe “creep” that mine has at the moment. What you are saying with air in the system the clutch wouldn’t dissengage fully to give you proper drive. ie slipping
Seems strange
Either way it will be bled this arvo. Any special tips in bleeding? I assume it would be like any other bleed job. Have never had to touch the hydraulic clutch on this Kato or the previous one

With lever to the handlebars engaging first trenches my lawn and bike wants to take off, also very clunky through the gears
Plenty of fluid in the resevoir
Any ideas??

MurphEveryone tells me it’s clutch drag, and that’s the way they are. Mine has done it since I’ve had it. I’m not convinced that it’s how it’s meant to be, but have had no issues yet. I wouldn’t have a clue what to look for or how to check ,baskets, plates etc. One day hopefully Tb is going to check/weave his magic for me(he just doesn’t know it yet)

I am lucky to have private bush trails to ride and share with my kids. They love riding bush trails,we really need more recreational areas that family groups can enjoy riding in the bush as it is great fun to ride as a family and it also helps build riding skills you wont get on a MX track.I agree Michael, and you make a very valid point about skillsets, I spent 10 years out of the bush and riding MX, Flattrack & road racing, Back in the bush I am next to useless, ever tried cornering in ST with one leg out turning with the rear laid over…..?? Mmm let’s see… Mmm it hurts alot.
Logs do not give you lift like an upramp, and trees are not as soft as tyre walls…
I sometime reckon I’ll never get the rythym for the bush right, it’s a completely different set of skills, even looking ahead and through corners is impossible.
Give us some bush to teach our kids and I’ll gladly pay a fee (nominal of course, after all I am a cheapskate)
+1, I would love the opportunity to be able to ride in the bush with my two boys, and hopefully one day I can.

Hatto wrote:Quote:Thought I’d have a rant this morning soMX bike in the bush -why the hell do people do it.
Our sport is in danger of being destroyed by the do gooders in society and yet there are still people out there insistant on riding un-registered mx bike in the bush. Wake up and do the right thing for the good of the sport.I have no doubt this will create some discussion pro- cons but it is a non argument. There is no justification at all.
Pros
mx bikes are cheaper – yeah but at what cost, If these people insist on doing it, they wont have access to ride it, no point having a cheap bike if you can’t use it. The first time you get caught, will make up the difference between rego-non rego bike.- Rec rego is the answerLighter – is a couple kilo’s a real difference- up to 17 kilos between comparable models Hatto, huge difference if you ride with feeling
Suspension is better – not for the bush. One example SSS suspension on the MX yamahas is arguably the best ex-factory suspension ever, on a MX bike near you now
Cons
Won’t lug in S/tYou’re kidding me ain’t you hatto, are you talking 4T only, cause an rm250/Yz250 will drop the revs slow low that you can count the strokes, long after most enduros have flamedOverheat- Mmm how so, usually the cooling systems are the same, advance curves and comp ratios may be different but in this area (very hot) let’s talk KTM EXCx and husaberg FE and several others.
No button start- Ok this is an advantage? it’s a nicety, but given the preference of either an E-start or kick only I’ll have the kicker, my batteries get low but not flat.
Loud- Mmm all 4Ts are loud, this is one of the major complaints we hear at the moment and after a rider check last weekend it was to a tee registered “trailbikes”, I’ll bet you a pound to a penny that unless you put forward a stock DRZ most 2T MXers will be heaps quieter.
Against the law-Agreed
Un-rego’d- should rec rego, but until then agreed
Un-licensed- agreed
Un-insured- see above comment
Harsh suspension-For me and many others all stock suspension is a joke so really moot unless you like riding a mushy
Will get riding areas closed down-ALL bikes are contributing to this, at the moment the place I work for is at the forfront of this problem in NSW, we have literally thousands of bikers in the region every weekend, and the main complaints
Noise NOISE NOISE
RUBBISH left behind
Parking on road verges in bad spots
Going onto PP and opening gates
The complainants don’t know what sort of bikes they are, what insurance is held, or who the riders are, the hate the NOISE, the continuous riding of the boundaries and the gates being opened and their land being crossed. They don’t come in and say “all these unregistered unlicenced Motocross riders are doing this (which isn’t true anyway), just “TRAILBIKESCostly if you hurt someone else-yeah
No torque-Hatto you’re smarter than that, HP is a byproduct of torque, MX bikes have higher HP than enduro, no brainer
Fuel range- subjective, some enduro bikes are coming out qwith 8 litre tanks, and MXers with 8.5, so it’s not true, and actually irrelelvant to this argument anyway
Maintenance-let’s not go here, that’s a, personal thing Xr650 riders would spew at my maintenance being too much, I spew at 4504ts needing so much etc etc, it’s what you accept, not an argument against a certain style of bike
Hatto my problem with your rant is mainly I don’t agree (obviously) and you generalise too much and it’s too easy to refute what you say. This type of rant is dividing the sport, Us V MXers, great.
Now you may have got the idea it’s a hot topic for me, bloody oath, there are some lads & Lasses trying to get rec rego passed as we speak, and it’s looking good. There is a huge countermovement here in NSW north where ALL riders are banding together and asking some pretty serious questions at public meetings, and the council is trying to formulate a plan to help and define co-existance of the different interests.
The problem with some older blokes is they become “elitist” and believe it is only a pastime for those like themselves, they forget the younger crew or those who just want and deserve choice rather than put up with the mush that is offered under “enduro” bike guise.Stick together, as divide & Conquer is what the gsme is.
I can keep going on cause we’ve spent the past 4 months gathering evidence for a management plan here and the results are not as people think, it’
s the “legal” mature riders who are causing the most negative publicity, a few kids on MXers are not spoken of, and usually they’re such a minority up here that no-one considers them worthy of special attention.Hi Bruce
well put response, I am not trying to divide the sport in anyway, but the fact of the matter is that it is against the law to ride un-registered in the bush unless on private land and as a group/body/movement we cannot expect to influence or be taken seriously by the powers at be while doing so. Not all mx bush riders do the wrong thing and no doubt there are registered riders doing the wrong thing, but if everybody was registered it is one thing they can’t use against us any more.(take away their amunition and they cant fire the gun). There are noise regulations and all bike should adhere – it again takes away the amunition. My 4T may be louder than your mx 2t, but mine is legal.(it may not be right, but it conforms with the law of the day)
Rec rego may be a good thing- I don’t know, but it is not here yet
Mx bikes are just that – mx, not trail orientated. If you want to spend money and time to convert it to a registerable trail weapon go right ahead, you then won’t be breaking the law.
Passion is great, and if mx bikes float your boat – great, but if you are riding that bike on gov’t land, you are not doing the sport you have so much passion for any favors.Maybe my heading should have been “MX bikes in the bush, It’s illegal, why do people do it”
Nothing personnel here bruce, just my thoughts.
