Its amazing how well a leaking countershaft seal lubricates

    Ollie[/quote]

Thats how I lube mine ollie

I’m sure I read on there old site that they use oil type products(like WD40 sort of stuff) not the sticky chain lube type products.

i went back to the wet lube stm for two reasons to shut the chain up and its cheaper i use silkaline stuff not sure if its better or not

Cheers for that Rocket. Anyone have a favourite wet lube that will not just end up on the back of my jersey?

    STM

found this on the chaingang site

    Lubricating.

An o’ring chain has the lubricant sealed within the chain but the friction generated through riding can overheat and boil the lubricant, resulting in a dry tight linked chain.

The chain must be coated in a lubricant at all times to prevent heat and heavy friction between pins and rollers and between the roller and sprockets.

Wax or teflon type lubricants will prevent friction but will not prevent overheating, meaning the chain can be damaged internally. While reducing friction will slow down heating, only oil can prevent overheating.

Using fully synthetic oil is a better choice, protecting the rubber o’rings from corrosion.

You should clean and lubricate the chain after every ride, to protect the chain. An automatic oiler is the ultimate maintenance. Flushing the chain constantly with cool fresh oil, maintaining long life and clean smooth operation.

Not really a joke but a laugh – well i spose K Rudd is the joke:

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel

” Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the promised land”.

    40 years ago, Whitlam said,

” Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the promised land”.

Now Krudd has stolen our shovel, taxed our asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the promised land!

I was so depressed last night thinking about Health Care Plans, our economy, wars, lost jobs, savings, social security, retirement funds, etc . . .

I called Lifeline and ended up in a freakin’ call center in Pakistan .

I told them I was suicidal.

They all got excited and asked if I could drive a truck….

    SO’s Mick!!

I use the twin air filter oil which does a good job, I used to like the castol filter oil (not the spray on stuff) you could get it from KMART for about $10 bucks a bottle but havnt seen it for a while. I used to clean my filters after every ride but know use filter skins and get about 3 rides if its not to dusty ;)

I like the lettuce spinner come filter spinner trick Hatto I dont think the Missus will notice it gone

    Ollie

Yeah, the misses got sick of me washing in the dishwasher and spinning in the washing machine

Hatto what do you use for the spin clean ?

    Thought someone might ask

Go down to bargain shop and get a lettuce washer/spinner thingy for $5.00, filter fits perfect inside, put lid on and spin handle, Plastic basket goes a bit warped after about 30-40 washes, just go and buy a new one.
    Works a treat

It is very tacky, even when you pull the side plate of after an extended period it still stretches out spider web style. Its well priced (at Sutto’s anyway) and you dont have to use bugger all

    IMO

    TB

TB I’ve got a bit of that left in a bottle, and you’re right it’s as tacky as high heels & lipstick on Hulk Hogan, but it sure is a bugger to use and clean.

    Hey mr blue

I use the motul – wash in kero, spin clean, wash in hot soapy water, spin clean, wash in clean water, spin clean let dry and re-oil. Use dishwashing gloves, wash in kero at end all good for next time
