this is never good to hear and can happen to anyone of us , about 12 months after i started riding dirt again( its been about 5 years all up now) i had a head on out here at wallaroo and we were both lucky to be tossed away in the opposite direcection of each other and unhurt and both rode our bikes home but it stays with me to this day that it could be just around the next corner and as trailboss said you use funny lines or lookingthrough the bush i dont even get into it on firetrails for this reason as i tend to be suckin the bigones in and trying to get a bit of composure for the next single but i still would hate to meet someone at highspeed on a firetrail not much stopping power on gravel, i dont think you could ever stop this sort of thing otherwise they would have already stopped the carnage on our highways and they have got more rules and regulation than you can poke a stick at!!, so i guess its a thought to all of us that apart from being a great and fun sport it is also a very dangerous sport, so do everything in your power to make it safer and that alone could make the difference! . My condolances go out to the family of the young fella and i hope the other fella makes a quick recovery. This would have been just tragic to everyone who would have been involved.

i had that alpinestar armour for a couple of years Boony and thought it was the most comfortable after trying a lot of different ones on and neverhad any trouble with it cause i give it a work out with the amount of times i have come off…..its one of those things if it works for you dont change it , at least the old armour has ben put to good use ,the missus has started to sew all the bits of shoulder, elbow and chest guards to a sloppy joe and the kids have got a new sset of armour!!!

i agree , who ever you took that bike to for one valve shim and 2 tyres for a $1000, dont take any bike to him again no matter what bike you it cost me $820 for big end pin ,conrod, wossner HC piston, rings and complete gaskit kit and for not being for much of a mechanic, mate either am i but what ever you want to know is on this computer plus a good workshop manual, from fork seal replacement or valve adjustment throught to rebuilding your motor in step by step , replayable form so you can watch it a few times to make sure your doin it the right way, i rebuilt my husky TE 510 last year and have done over 3500 km since with no problem to the motor , So at first it might be hard but the more you live with your bike the easier these valve adjustments and things become so what ever bike you decide on that is my advice to you there are to many bike repaires out there that forget that if they dont have customers they dont eat and i have been involved myself and heard of stories like yours of ridiculous prices to fix or maintain bikes, i dont know who said it but knowledge is power all the information you want is at your fingertips

If someone were to say want to move onto a different bike say… one with a button what would the gang here recommend..

Currently own – 1996 XR400 and am very happy with what she puts out ie; power, control and performance.

    Wants:

The low maintenance of the XR400.
A Button start because my right leg hurts from all the kicking this past weekend.

    Don’t want:
The massive high maintenance schedule of these new bikes.

    Cheers…
    Chris………..

i dont think theres any question if you want all what your xr had with electric start plus watercooling and low maintenance the DRZ would have to be it no doubt about it
