    Hi,
Just signed up to OBT, usually hang around in ADVrider and ride with guys around my brissy area. Mature age rider after many years of trail bikes, more recently had DRZ, KTM690, 06 WR450F, but now I’m riding a 13 WR450F and an 06 KLE 500.

I’m heading down for the Wauchope ride on the weekend so look forward to catching up with some of you to show me the ropes around your area.

I enjoy setting bikes up for there intended use, here’s a link to my current work in progress

Damage may have already been done? Was the bearing split like mine?

    TB

Mine is now 3000 shy of the suggested 30000 check up on this issue, and it sure looks like it may be an idea to have it seen too as I wont be getting a new one anytime soon.

Is there anything else that would need checking at that interval as I had better start to save my pennies for the inevitable :pinch:

    Cheers james

Inevitable  I am not sure James. There are more of them around world wide that have more miles with no failure that those that have failed. My black one was ridden hard, I don’t know about Choots.
The big difference between your gearbox and drive line and my black one for example is you get triple the chain and sprocket life I do. You also get double the tyre life at least, meaning your drive line. gearbox etc is not under anywhere near the stress mine was. You don’t jump water bars (most I have notched are in 3 rd gear) which shocks the drive line.
Get the bearing done, I will help you with that. Its cheap and be reassured yours will last until you rebuild the engine in the 80’s the way you look after it ;)

    TB

That’s the politest way that I have ever been told that my riding ability isn’t worth a knob of goat s#@t      Not sure I look after my bike that well TB as the number of times I have dropped her must be in triple figures  they are Tonka Tough in that regard.

Thanks heaps for the insight and offer of assistance yet again ;)

No firm plans just yet mate on leave time, just mid morning to arrive at Dungog for a counter lunch.
Was waiting till the week before to make firm plans if anyone else was tagging along.

Same offer goes to you mate that I made to James,
Welcome to crash at my place on the Friday night if it makes things easier. Rumpus room downstairs is now cleaned out and room for couple of stretcher beds (which I have here).

Let me know closer to the time Wigs , no rush.
Missus did remind me that the Sunday is my son`s birthday, so I will aim to be back in Newy at lunchtime (approx) B)

Thankyou for the kind offer Eags ;) but I think I would probably head up through St albans on the Saturday morning get a bit of a dirt ride in along the way, rather than heading up the freeway, especially if Wigster decided to join us, think he hails from the city somewhere  , he more or less has to go straight past my place we could meet you along the way somewhere perhaps

I am heading up to check out the Karuah River Rally at Frying Pan just out of Dungog this year.
Unable to make the Feb Nav Ride :( but this is the following weekend.
My plan is a ride up via the dirt on the sat leaving mid morning ,counter lunch at Dungog then onto the camp early arvo.
Meeting up with Oldfatbeerman (Al), Mudrat and a couple of others at the rally on the sat arvo as they are off on a ride on the Friday but calling in on the way back.

If anyone is interested and available, feel free to join in ;)

Rally cost is $25 a head which covers camp cost, a badge and BBQ brekky on the sunday.
There will be softdrinks and a sausage sizzle on the sat arvo/evening.
Supplies (Beer etc) can be picked up in Dungog on the way in

I thought this was a BMW thing Eags , do they welcome all bikes.

I also can not go on the up coming Nav ride :pinch: finances don’t allow it at the moment but any shorter time frame, day rides/ cheaper local outings I would be keen if your interested ;)

I’ll tell you what it was hot out Tamworth way. I nearly died of thirst on the way home. In fact so close to death was I that I was only saved by rehydrating at several hostelries in Scone. I rehydrated so much I had to stay the night in one of them. It was awful I tell you…..

    Wigster

New bike and a pub stay …..jeez life is harsh hey wigster

I confess the Tamworth bike is mine.

Flew out there on Friday and rode it back. Only done 6800k with quite a bit of bling on it.

I liked it straight away and was surprised how easily it cruised at 120. Very comfortable too (already has aftermarket bars and risers)

Dropped it off with Lefty on Sunday for TB to take to Nick at Teknik for the suspension work. New twin pipe from Jason at Barratt going on too. Happy days!

I just hope I don’t smash it up on the next nav ride. It looks brand new at the moment, not a scratch on it.

I have a feeling it won’t stay that way for long.

Even a silver tongued devil like myself is having trouble persuading the other half that I need two bikes, so the Tiger might have to go.

    Wigster

    Congratulations Wigster ;)

What a way to end the year, and what a year it has been :woohoo: . I have been fortunate to have been able to participate in all of these unofficial Oldbull Nav rides of 2013 and this one sure lived up to and surpassed my expectations.
The weekend began with a very wet solo ride out to Lithgow in flogging rain from Galston, and I have to admit the thought of the journey nearly made me pull the pin as crossing the mountains in the pouring rain isn’t my idea of fun  . The usual weather conditions that see Lithgow shrouded in more gloomy weather were reversed, which to my surprise saw it bathing in sunshine and after what I had just ridden through to get there to say I was stoked I didn’t take the soft option and not go would be an understatement. :P
A few quick how ya goings, booked in and off for a hot shower after a drenching ride up. The bike shop across the road was handy as I needed some new goggles and once that was sorted it was off to the bar.
For this ride TB and Crash had me partner up with Ghostrider, Bones and Usi and like every other nav ride I have been on it doesn’t always go according to plan usually due to a comedy of errors, missed turns etc etc, and this one was no different. :silly:
Within 5klm from the start at the pub [still on the tar] we had made, or should I say Ghostrider and myself were 1 a piece in the navigational blunders, things were looking good.
On to the dirt and into it saw us get mixed up with a few other groups and somewhere along the way in the dusty confusion we lost Usi.I know the tracks and trails were great but I can never remember the sequence of events on these rides and the day just becomes one big fun blur possibly has something to do with the previous nights festivities.
Somewhere in the pine forest I was behind Ghostrider when he had a massive tank slapper and all I could see was his helmet getting thrown around above the thick cloud of white dust that you couldn’t see $#@! in. It was caused by a set of those tyre tracks that set hard and in hindsight I am glad he came out no worse for wear and in the process warned me that the tracks were there because you couldn’t see a thing in that white dust and I would have stacked for sure.
In keeping with our inability to ride as a group and stick together after Usi became separated off the back we were about to part ways with Bones for a few hours as he was leading at the time we rolled through Jenolan Caves. Both myself and Ghostrider stopped as I pulled over to load the next map on the GPS, not long maybe a minute or two and then away again, but long enough for Bones to disappear out of sight and pull into the carpark which we then rode past head down bum up trying to catch him. :pinch:
The next few hours riding saw some awesome trails that had been in the Feb nav ride and the creek crossing at the hippy camp nearly caught me having a swim but luck was on my side and managed to stay dry.
Knowing how much riding TB packs into these rides the plan was to try and set a good steady pace and make it to the fuel and burger stop at Burrega before the servo was overwhelmed with thirsty bikes and hungry riders which we managed to do arriving a couple hours after TB and Crash but before any of the others so we took a lunch break and enjoyed a great hamburger, which worked out well because with the half hour delay Bones caught us after having waited back at Jenolan Caves for us.
So back into it and starting to feel a little fatigue setting in and the sandy tighter tracks were testing me a little, bike fitness not up to par and carrying my nights accommodation on the back of the bike my wrists and knees were feeling the weight of the bike. The tar run into Woodstock a welcome break for the sore joints and I could almost taste the beer.
Arrived at the pub and enjoyed watching the bikes roll in over the course of the afternoon drinking what probably turned out to be too many beers when trying to back up for the next days ride.
Day two would see just myself and Bones set out together as Ghostrider would be riding at the back with Crash.I was having trouble with riding the little sandy track from yesterday which we were now doing in reverse and it wasn’t long before I came undone and had a little stack, I knew then it was going to be a long day.
We came across Mr Squiggle for the first time of the day searching for his wallet he thought he may have dropped on the track lucky for him it turned up in his gear after pulling everything apart, our second encounter with Mr Squiggle was a little more interesting and hopefully Merlyn will post the vid he took as the hill he rode the Tiger down has to be seen to be believed, it was difficult walking up and down it.
The remainder of the ride saw Grasshopper join us and lead with me following and Bones at the tail due to my inability to work out my GPS so thanks guys , wouldn’t have made it out of the forest without the help. ;)
Thanks to my ride partners for weekend Bones, Ghostrider, Usi and Grasshopper for the great company, help and assistance over the weekend. ;)
Once again to all that help organise support and run these rides thanyou, TB ,Crash ,PTW, Strucky, Lefty, Amy ,Boulder, Wolfman and Yamaha , and anybody else I have left out sorry. ;) Not only was this ride fantastic but the year as a whole was epic looking back on it and one where I have learned heaps from people only too willing to give advice and help.
    Cheers James
