No come on the next one Kat, that way they might slow down a bit and I will be able to keep up then
,,,,,, and hey, your speed is comin along nicely I hear.
Met up with Lotsa this morning down the central coast way, a bit cool on the freeway but not too bad. No-one there when I arrived but Lotsa turned not long after.
The DRZ ready for action

Lotsa had a plan in his head along with some instruction on paper he got from the net. Now at this point I was expecting a nice leisurely ride through the country side, and while it was through the country side, it certainly wasn’t leisurely. Well not for me at least, following lotsa it soon became apparent that speed zones were advisory only and didn’t really apply to us.We headed up the tar but it wasn’t long before we hit the fire trails, and hit them at speed. The pace was on (well it was for me, I think Lotsa was only cruising), I was going well keeping at a pace that was close to the limits of my ability. Every now and then I would zone out a bit and drop off without realising it, then sort of come to and realize he had gotten away from. That wasn’t such a problem as I new he would wait for me at some point, the problem was that when he was in sight I had a better idea of what was ahead and how tight the corners were. So then I would really push myself to catch up in sections where I felt comfortable, at 1 stage I was doing 129Kmh on the loose gravel roads near St Albans trying to catch him. I only know this because my GPS logged the maximum speed, I was too busy watching the road
All day it was like that, I am not complaining , I was having a ball, just saying is all. On the run home on the dirt through Yengo he got away again and try as I might he just kept getting further ahead.
Can’t tell you too much about where we went but Lotsa has covered that anyway. There was 1 food stop, 1 lookout stop, 1 drink stop, 2 fuel stops, 2 river cruises and 3 piss stops.
All up I did 520km for the day with the trip up and down the freeway included. Left home this morning at 6.45 and got home around 5. The ride reminded me of the old bulls biggest days out ride we did a while back, covered some of the same trails but had probably less stops
.
The DRZ never missed a beat all day (excluding a little cold start issue this morning), I refuelled at the first pit stop at Colo and that was it for the day, I have got just over 300km out of the tank so far and haven’t hit reserve. Butt is a bit sore but that will teach me to sit down all day. I was running 14/42 gearing and sat on 120 to 130 all the way home on the freeway, I think if I were to be a lot of travelling at those speeds I would probably go to a 15 front (tip for the cc crew
)

Yeh Wayne, got your number. I will see you there mate
Ok, I’m in Lotsa. I found the start point on google maps so all good there, will be bringing the DRZ. The Strom will have to wait until it’s in adventure trim before it gets to play.
There is a 2010 Tenere for sale on ADVRider for $12500 with about all the accessories you would want.

I must be losing my mind, I don’t have the andystrapz expedition panniers, I thought I bought some on line the other night but only bought straps, waterproof overgloves and a light weight balaclava. I may still get some though, I have been reading about problems with the Aluminium panniers in the soft going and getting your heals caught under them as you try and paddle your way out of the sand or mud. Maybe keep them for on road or more moderate rides and get the soft ones for the other stuff. The other advatage of soft panniers is they expand and flex to suit what you stuff into them instead of the other way around.
I spent over $1000 bucks on bike stuff between midnight and sunrise the other night, I think I need a job that keeps me away from the internet
I’m a chance of this one Lotsa. Just need to get my car fixed tomorrow so I am free for Staurday. Been driving around with only 1 headlight working for the past 3 weeks, then last night on the way to work a roo took out the other one. Scary driving them back roads with bugger all lights, only had 1 fog light working and couldn’t see anything when cars came the other way. Need lights fixed for Sundays night shift.
I will let you know tomorrow arvo if I am coming, may need more info on meet point too.
I was reading a thread somewhere the other night about a guy riding around the world an a DRZ400S, not much you can;t do on the Bannana’s yellow or blue (or black now days)
It is said to be real.
Hi Kat.
I have the R-Jays as well, it is reasonably light and comfortable and I haven’t noticed much dust when wearing it. The only negative I would say is the wind noise which is because there is no padding around the ear area, I usually ride with earplugs anyway but after cutting some foam rubber to fit in the space near the ears I have found the wind noise is dramatically reduced and I can ride comfortably without earplugs.
All helmets have to comply to the same standard so I would say the biggest consideration should be comfort, followed by price. There is no point paying big dollars for something that isn’t comfortable.Cheers
JeffroI am planning on using what I have already, either the Aluminium panniers or the Andystrapz expedition Panniers
At this stage I plan to start my ride from home, no psrking rquired
Has anyone booked any accommodation yet?
Yeh no worries Krusty, I didn’t think you were having a go, just trying to ease Nicks stress levels over gearing.
I’m a bit like you Krusty, I don’t like riding with the ring revved out of the bike (kinda pointless on a DRZ anyway as that is not where the power is), thats why I went with a bigger bore bike, so I could ride it in the lower rev range with plenty of tourque.
