So I need to get around 150Km between fuel stops, is that right? If that’s all I need I can put the 42 tooth sprocket back on and will be good to go.

Just make sure you guys don’t hurt yourselves learning the handling charactristics the new power at your disposal before Nundle, (or after for that matter).

in reply to: Loose Spokes #138585

I’m no expert Fez but I belive it is normal for new spokes to loosen up a bit until they settle in but they shouldn’t have come that loose so quickly I wouldn’t have thought. I think anything you put on the thread to stop them coming undone will give trouble if and when it comes time for adjustment, you just need to keep an eye on them until they bed in. What you can do is cable tie your spokes together where they meet in the middle to stop them swinging about if they come out completely or break.
You should probably talk to the guy that fitted them

No worries Dan, I am planning a local ride in the coming weeks. It’s out near Seaham at what used to be called Uffington state forest, now called Coolaroy SF although it’s still Uffington on Google. I have ridden out there a few times before, once with a group that new there way around and then by myself just plodding about.
I was out there today trying to learn my way around well enough to lead a group. There are fire trails, twin and single trails, creek crossings, some nice hill climbs and some really nice erosion mound jumps. There is also a track laid out with a few small jumps and berms that have been built by someone, it track crosses back and forth across a creek a few times but there are a few trees blocking part of it. There is also a big flat grassed area just near the track so that those that don’t want to do it can play on the grass working on some skills or maybe try grass tracking.

I think I will practice starting it and getting it to move forward without stalling before I bring it out on an Old Bull ride.

Champo I might pass on tomorrows outing so I can work on the above.

Man up Dan lest we start calling you princess :P

Congrats on the new wheels bloke ;)

in reply to: trady’s rate of pay. #138436

A friend of mines step son works as a mechanis=c at a well known Newcastle bike shop, I know from experience that they charge close to $100 an hour for work performed yet he was only getting payed around $17 dollars an hour. When he asked for a oay rise he was told they couldn’t afford it. Yet when he left to work as a labourer for around $23 and hour they were able to beat that rate to keep him.

Now I know that there are overheads like workers compensation, holiday and sick pay, public liability etc, but I work in the engineering industry and at the company I work for the cost of employment is around $20 an hour over the employees wage rate.

The Bottom line is that it is a supply and demand situation, if we need the supply they demand shitloads of money.
